The Dark Daughters and Sons
Chapter Three
The ride in the Argo II had been long and boring. It shouldn't have taken as long as it did to get from New York to Oklahoma, but when was life ever easy for a demigod?
"Leo, are we almost there?" Lindsey pouted, absently levitating some stones in front of her.
Lindsey Coulson was a daughter of Hecate, the Goddess of Magic. Just like with any other demigod, children of Hecate specialized in a certain type or branch of magic. For example, Lou Ellen, her sister and the Head Councellor of the Hecate cabin specialized in shapeshifting: changing how her body and face look at will. Caleb, her seven year old brother, was able to talk to animals. Lindsey, had a pretty cool power as some called it. She had telekinesis, the ability to move objects with her mind.
Leo wasn't listenting, instead concentrating on the Wii remote he had rigged to control the flying ship.
"We'll get there when we get there, so sit down and shut up already," Tim spoke from the front of the Argo II, a book in his hands.
Lindsey stuck her tongue out at her friend and dropped the mental hold she had over the stones.
"We're here." She heard Leo call out a few hours later. The sun had long since fallen, the stars bright in the sky.
Lindsey and Tim hurried over to the side of the ship and looked down. Below them, two large gothic buildings faced eachother, a large wooded courtyard between them. There were a few other buildings scattered around the courtyard, with a tall pale brick wall separating the campus from the civilian world.
Leo passed the main part of campus and lowered the Argo II into a clearing on the most eastern side of campus.
As the ship lowered, Lindsey counted eight people below, their mouths hanging open in awe.
Once they were landed, no noise came from the spectators below. Lindsey turned to Tim, who was standing beside her. He shrugged at her, meeting her gaze before she turned back to the vampyres.
"Are you guys coming up or are you just going to stare at it all night?"
The sun was already rising in the east, which made it hell to see where the Argo II was headed. Thankfully, Leo seemed to know the way, which had definitely eased Zoey's mind.
"Less than halfway there," he said, slumping in the seat beside her. "You should really get some sleep, Zoey. When we get to camp...it'll be busy until nightfall." He gave Zoey a small smile before returning to the hull.
"He's right you know," Lindsey said, taking Leo's seat. "It'll be crazy. It's bad enough when we get a new camper, but to find out that the vampyres we all learned about in biology class are really demigods? You'll be the talk of the town-so to speak."
"I guess I'm just too nervous to sleep," Zoey admitted, looking at the girl beside her. They were about the same age, but instead of Zoey's thick mane of dark hair, Lindsey's was slightly lighter, a chesnut brown. Lindsey's hair was thick, but it was super curly, a wild mane of hair that didn't look half bad. Her eyes were almost violet in color, and her skin was tanner than Zoey's with freckles spattering her nose. "It would be cool if this was a vacation, but aren't we only going to Camp to fight not one, but two wars?"
Lindsey was quiet for a few seconds, studying Zoey. "While that is true, Rome wasn't built in a day. We have no idea how long this will all take. It could be tomorrow, that is true, but we could also be waiting for weeks or months. You're in a new place with a bunch of people you don't know. It's just like going to a new school. And while it's true you could die any day now, why waste the life that you do have left not making the best of it?"
Zoey looked at Lindsey with surprise, when she had first met the daughter of Hecate, she hadn't thought that the girl could be serious, or even wise. "That kind of sounds like being Marked," Zoey acknowledged. "About now knowing when you'll die."
"The same could be said for any number of things, but it's still life. And it's still true," she smiled at Zoey.
"I guess you're right...I guess I can't waste the rest of my life worrying about things I can't control, I'll try to make the best of the situation I'm in. Thank you."
Lindsey's smile grew wider, and something-almost as if Zoey could see the change of the girls thoughts-changed in her eyes. "Ohmygods, wait until you see the Pegasi!"
It was nearly lunch time when the group arrived at Camp Half Blood. Darius and the fledglings were all on deck, as well as Leo, Lindsey and Tim. Aphrodite leaned back against Darius, looking over the side of the ship when they came into view. Her eyes narrowed, not liking what she saw. She was used to the richer aspects of life, and even the caves they lived in under the depot had her touch of ikea.
"Twin, I think we may have fun here," Shaunee looked at Erin, an evil grin on her face. Below them, nearly a hundred campers waited. The Twins spotted a couple of boys in armor, shielding their eyes from the sun, swords strapped at their sides. As the Argo II lowered to the ground, the faces became clearer and recognizable. Chiron and Mr. D were standing in front of the procession, the cabin councellors on either side of them. When the ship had finally landed, Leo put down the ramp and with him in the lead, the demigods joined Camp Half Blood.
I know it's not the longest of chapters, but at least it's something :D I hope you liked it! I really appreciate everyone who has followed, favorited and reviewed this story, it means a lot.
Review or PM me if you want to see any specific couples between the characters of Percy Jackson, House of Night and Heroes of Olympus, because the Romans will make an appearance.
Thank you for reading :D
