Claire's P.O.V
The morning bell rang, well more like chimed in a sense. Bells must be too common for OHS.
Claire pulled out her schedule her first class was art, Claire had never considered herself to be much of an artist, but she figured that it would at least give her some time to think. Part of her dreaded finding out if even one of her former BFFs could be in her first class or even worse her ex and his new " girlfriend". Claire did not like to think of Olivia as cam's girlfriend. She just kind of thought of her as a temporary fixture in cams life. A temporary fixture with what Claire decided must be the most annoying giggle in the whole school. As much as Claire dreaded seeing any of the PC she knew she would have to. And she knew she would have to put her anger aside and watch and listen if she ever wanted to see them fall, she would have to figure out how.
Claire shuffled to her first class it was in the art building nearest to the football field she could see the manicured field through the window of the art room. The field with its arifical grass and its maroon plastic track in their school colors. It was so beautiful just like the rest of the town and surely just as artificial.
Claire plopped her target bought back pack under her table at the far end of the classroom, the table with the best view of the field. She was the first one to enter class. Claire took out her standard black notebook, she was going to write or doodle, until class started, but every time she tried her mind was as blank as the brand new school notebook her mother had got her no more than a week or two ago.
Before Claire even realized it students were bursting in all excitement and summer chatter. Claire studied each student that entered the room. Some sophomore boys were the first in they all had the straight white teeth and name brand clothing that would have dubbed " total HEARTS" the came scrambling in with their deep laughs and boyish fist bumps. A group of girls Claire had never seen before, upperclassmen Claire assumed, came in behind them they had the looks to be hanging out with these boys, all long legs bronzed from the summer beach outings, five inch heels Claire didn't miss wearing one bit, and identical cute giggles not those hearty laughs the ones you knew were genuine, no they had the girlish giggles that you could never quite decode they could be mocking, flirty, or even real, but wait Claire recognized one of them.
Just as she suspected the last of the girls just happened to be Olivia Ryan. Sheesh Olivia already friends with all the popular upperclassmen? Massie probably had a welcome back party. Claire rolled her eyes Massie's parties had once been the highlight of claire's summer, but now they just seemed silly and over the top. Somehow Claire still felt the sting of not being a part of it. Not even knowing if there had been a party.
Claire stole a glance at them well more Olivia really. Olivia sat down looking as happy and gorgeous as ever, the sun had given her pale skin a glow making her teeth look even whiter. Her long pale hair hung in beach waves around her shoulders looking effortless as if she had just woken up run her fingers through it and had it look like that. Claire knew better. Claire's blood boiled. She went back to her notebook doodling going over the hastily drawn lines with red and black ink from a couple of pens she had taken from her mother's desk. Claire looked up and was met by two questioning amber eyes. The boy that had chosen to sit across from her had shaggy light brown hair some of which was bleached a bit by the sun giving it a golden glow. He had a sleepy smile and a white and grey striped hoodie Massie probably would not have approved of. He was undoubtedly adorable, Claire knew that, but didn't stop her from kicking herself for thinking it.
" Hey I'm Carter. Whatcha Drawing?"
"Claire" Claire replied without enthusiasm.
This stupid boy who was he? He was distracting her. Claire tried to glace across the room to olivia's table, but quickly glanced away when one of the other girls caught her staring.
" you must be new. Are you a freshman? "
Claire ignored him and continued digging the red pen into her new notebook.
" I noticed you were sitting alone and thought I would come say hi."
Claire didn't look up.
" why don't don't you talk." Carter asked. Not cruelly just curiously.
Claire looked up and was caught by Carter's piercing amber eyes almost the exact color of his hair.
A girl with long, wavy black hair and a knit beret tugged on Carter's hood from the table behind theirs.
" Carter come on, bro this is the only class we all have together there is no way you are ditching us."
Claire looked at the boisterous kids she assumed to be carter's friends.
"one sec" Carter waved the dark haired girl off
" hey Claire, you should totally text me sometime " carter handed her a piece of ripped notebook paper with a messy boyish scrawl of numbers on it.
Claire tucked it in the smallest pocket of her backpack. Not that she would text him or anything no… just better save it or it will seem rude. Of course that's it.
