I have no excuse for how long it took me to write this… But, I have some info concerning the story. They're in eleventh grade and they have first period (math) and fourth period (home ec) together. I could've put this in the story somehow but I guess I'm just lazy… Well, enjoy! I don't own Hetalia! :P
Alfred was at school early today. He was so excited about that night that he just jumped out of bed. He knew that getting to school early wouldn't make the day go by faster, but none of that mattered. He was at school early! He felt like he should have bragging rights because of this. Thinking about how proud he was about not being even close to late today, Alfred didn't notice the big hunk of person that suddenly appeared in front of him. "OW!" He yelped, falling onto his bottom, and scraping up his hands. "Oh, I'm sorry dude."
"I am fine, but maybe you should watch where you are going next time, da?" Alfred looked up to see a familiar Russian standing over him. "Oh, Alfred, you are not usually here this early."
"Uh, no, not really, I was just so excited that I couldn't sleep in!" Alfred said, taking Ivan's hand as he extended it to help Alfred up. He winced and Ivan frowned.
"You are hurt."
"Nah, it's not that bad…"
"Fredka, I can see the blood. You scraped up your hands pretty bad. You should go to the nurse." Ivan grabbed onto Alfred's wrist and started to pull him along.
"Dude, it's not that bad, I promise." But Ivan would hear nothing of it as he dragged the confused American along behind him towards the nurse's office. On the way there, Alfred couldn't help but notice what Ivan was wearing. He had on a black sweater that fit very well, not too tight, but it still showed off the large muscles underneath. His jeans were dark too, showing off how long his legs were and he had on dark brown boots. His usual scarf was in place today and Alfred wondered why he liked it so much. It was obviously very old. It was slightly frayed at the edges and had a couple stains here and there but he never failed to wear it every day, even when it wasn't as cold outside. His sandy blonde hair was wind-blown and his eyes were slightly large, making him look frightened.
When they finally made it to the nurse's office, he seemed to be calmed down a little, with his eye size returning to normal. He glanced at Alfred anxiously before pushing open the door and dragging him inside. The nurse looked up from her book and said, "It's kinda early to be hurt already boys! What did you do?"
"My friend fell and scrapped up his hands." Ivan murmured, lightly pushing Alfred forward.
"Yeah, I wasn't watching where I was going again."
"How do you do it, Al? It's not even first period yet and you're already bleeding!" The nurse came around her desk and led Alfred to a chair, checking to see how big his cuts were.
"You come here often enough for her to know your name?" Ivan asked, eyes wide.
"Yeah… I'm on the football team, so I'm not really new to injuries." Alfred laughed
"Oh…" Ivan looked away, fidgeting with discomfort.
"Actually, Ivan, you'd be a great addition to the team! We were looking for someone of your size."
"Ah, no thank you… I do not do so well around blood." They both got quiet while the nurse finished up. As soon as she sent them out the door, the first bell rang and the two headed for class.
"What do you mean?" Alfred suddenly asked.
"Huh?"
"What do you mean by, 'I don't do so well around blood'?"
"Oh… well, I have bad experiences when blood is involved. It brings up bad memories that I would prefer stay buried in the past."
"Really? Like what?" Alfred looked up at him with large, curious eyes and Ivan looked away, blushing slightly.
"I would rather not talk about it…"
"Oh" They were quiet again, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Ivan was starting to like having the annoying blonde around. Though it was only their second day together, he found himself noticing random things about his companion, such as the way his expression changed with every sentence and how he was always happy. It calmed Ivan down and it seemed to be destroying the depression that Ivan had been struggling with for a couple years now. But, he still wouldn't go as far to say that he was starting to care for the blonde. Alfred was still annoying and loud and obnoxious, but… maybe not as much as Ivan had originally thought.
"Here we are!" Alfred's voice knocked Ivan out of his thoughts and he stopped, narrowly missing running into the wall next to the door. "Uh… Ivan? You ok, dude?"
"Da, I was just thinking." He said, walking past Alfred and into the classroom. All the students seemed to stop what they were doing to watch the pair walk in, and Ivan hesitated, unused to all the attention. Alfred, however, didn't seem to notice as he practically skipped to his seat between Arthur and Francis.
"The Russian is walking you to class now?" Arthur asked in a huff.
"Artie, what are you talking about? We have the same class, and his name is Ivan."
"Yes, well, he must have met you before school or something."
"No, actually I ran into him…. Literally." Alfred held up his hands to show off the bandages. "He made me go to the nurses' office and then we came to class. Why does it matter, anyway?"
"Because… it's him! He's, he's evil! The bloody wanker is probably planning how to hurt you as we speak. He's vile and cruel and, well, you saw what he did to Toris!"
"Honestly, mon amie, you are going a little far." Francis said, looking back at where Ivan was sitting at his desk. He looked a lot more comfortable now that he was sitting down, daydreaming about who knows what. "He doesn't seem that bad-"
"He isn't that bad! I mean, sure, I don't know him very well but it's not like he's done anything weird. He even helped me when I got hurt!" Alfred held up his hands again. "I think you should give Ivan a chance before you start saying such mean things about him!" Arthur wasn't sure what to say, and Francis was pouting about being interrupted, giving Alfred a look.
"I… I still don't like him." Arthur turned away from Alfred, pouting.
"You just don't like him because you are jealous." Francis said, giving Arthur a knowing smile. "You don't like it that he's got Alfred's attention, right? Well, you always have me." Francis winked and Arthur blushed.
"S-shut up! You have no idea what you're talking about, bloody frog!" As the two continued to argue, Alfred started thinking about the baking he was going to do later. He would be lying to say that he wasn't excited, but he wasn't really looking forward to what Ivan would think when he found out that Alfred had no idea what they were going to do. But, other than the thought of baking delicious food, he was really hoping to learn more about Ivan. Now that he noticed the guy, he couldn't really stop thinking about him. Ivan is hiding something. That, he's sure of, but he couldn't figure out what it is. Whatever it is, it's bothering Ivan, and, as the hero, Alfred found it his job to help fix his friend's problems, no matter what that problem is.
"Al, do you want to work together?" A soft voice said in front of Alfred.
"What? Mattie? What are you talking about?"
"We have a worksheet, Al. Were you daydreaming?" Mattie sat next to him and Alfred looked around to see that everyone was paired up with someone (besides Ivan) and were working on something.
"Yeah, I was thinking about tonight." He looked down at the worksheet. It looked pretty easy, but he had always been good at math. He nodded at the seat next to him and his brother slowly sat down.
"You're having the baking thing tonight, aren't you?"
"Yep! Is Gilbert gonna be coming over?"
"Yeah, but we'll stay in my room, so don't worry about us." Matthew said and Al nodded. They turned back to the worksheet, both finding it difficult to focus. In the meantime, Ivan and Arthur were both suffering. Arthur had thought that he could learn a little more about the Russian by pairing up with him but the guy was so intimidating that he was getting nowhere. Ivan thought Arthur was just plain creepy. He kept giving Ivan looks and mumbling strange things under his breath, not even paying attention to the math in front of him. It's too bad Ivan had been too surprised by the sudden invitation to work together to say no to the creep. It was too late to back out now, so Ivan silently worked while keeping an eye on the Englishman.
After about thirty minutes, however, Ivan couldn't help asking, "What are you saying?" Arthur turned pale and squeaked, leaning away from Ivan.
"It is none of your business! Just, keep working!" He looked away and Ivan shrugged. He could see why Alfred was so weird if he had this for a best friend. "Um, Ivan…"
"Da?"
"Tell me more about yourself. I mean, why are you always alone? What are you always daydreaming about? What are your plans with Alfred?" It obviously took Arthur a lot of courage to ask this, as he was shaking and very pale, but Ivan wasn't really sure what to say.
"What do you mean? By the last question…"
"Well, you were very fast at agreeing to work at Alfred's house. If Mattie wasn't going to be there with Gilbert then I wouldn't have allowed you to go but… for you to have been so eager, you must have had some sort of ulterior motive. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense! So, what are you going to do to him? Hurt him like you did with Toris or-" Arthur cut himself off as Ivan turned red, shaking in his anger.
"I didn't do anything to Toris." He was quiet, and it made him seem scarier than if he had shouted. "I don't like the way you are treating me right now, since you really don't know me well enough to make any of these accusations. You don't know me. You don't know what happened. You don't know anything." Arthur felt horrible when he saw that Ivan was crying but he couldn't say another word as Ivan stood up and started walking towards the door.
"Ivan?" Alfred called after him, but he just left, heading straight for the bathroom. Both the teacher and Alfred called after him but he didn't stop. Alfred couldn't see him cry.
So, I hope you liked it. If you see any mistakes, tell me 'cause I can't keep my stories waiting or I'll start to hate them and you will never see a new chapter again o_o Also, I wasn't really expecting the ending and I kinda had to force myself to end this chapter 'cause I'm exhausted but the characters just kept me going, giving me more ideas and stuff… They won't let me sleep! I'll try to take less time on the next chapter but no promises. School is kickin' mah butt!
