Cosmo sat slumped over on the rock, hanging his head. He sighed heavily, trying to control the onslaught of tears that fell relentlessly down his face. The only emotions he felt were fear and hate. He was afraid Wanda would never forgive him. Wanda was his universe. She was the cheese to his sandwich. The very air he breathed. But now, he wasn't sure he would have his cheese or his air anymore. His universe might be gone... forever... and for that, he hated himself. A loud sob escaped him as he thought of his life without Wanda. Without her, he was just Cosmo. Without her... he was nothing.
Cosmo was startled by a hand gripping his shoulder. He wiped his arm across his eyes, to wipe the tears away before looking to see who came to interrupt his self loathing.
"Oh, hey." He said somberly looking back to the river, watching the reflection of the moon dance within the water.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Cupid asked, sitting on the large rock, next to Cosmo.
"I guess." Cosmo answered absentmindedly. The two males sat in silence for several minutes. Cupid was trying to read Cosmo's emotions while Cosmo tried keeping himself together.
"Wanna talk about it?" Cupid finally asked. Cosmo glanced at him and hung his head again.
"I really messed up this time." He admitted quietly. "I don't think..." tears stung his eyes as he tried to compose himself. Cupid patted him on the shoulder but was taken off guard when Cosmo threw himself at the love god and sobbed, drenching his pink shirt. "S-she p-probably hates m-me n-now." Cosmo cried out. Cupid pushed the green haired fairy off of him and straightened his shirt with a mild look of disgust at how soaked it was.
"She doesn't hate you, Cosmo." He finally said as he looked up at the distraught fairy.
"HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?" Cosmo yelled, grabbing the front of Cupid's shirt. "I did the one thing I promised to never do!" He shouted. "I..." he let go of Cupid and sat down on the rock again, pulling his knees to his chest.
"Cosmo?" The love god encouraged.
"I..." a single tear slid down his face. "I broke her... heart." His voice cracked at that last word. He rested his head on his knees, the overwhelming anxiety shook his body.
"Well, if that's the worst you've done-" Cosmo's head snapped up and he glared at Cupid.
"That IS the worst I've ever done! I promised I would never break her heart. Not like that big jerk, Juandissimo!" He snapped. Cupid was slightly taken aback. He didn't expect anything less, but given that it was Cosmo, he hadn't expected the dim fairy to be so aggressive, not in this manner.
"Look Cosmo, you two have been together for a long time. Something like this was bound to happen eventually. The best thing for you to do is go back to your wife and tell her you're sorry." He glanced at Cosmo.
"But I-" Cupid help up his hnd to silence Cosmo, knowing he would start talking in circles, and that was the last thing he wanted to deal with right now.
"Look, Wanda thinks you don't love her anymore." He stated.
"What?" Cosmo looked at him with wide shocked eyes. "But, I do still love her!" He furrowed his brows.
"I know that and you know that, and I'm sure deep down Wanda still knows it. But right now she doesn't believe it." Cupid dug in his pocket and pulled out an object, extending his closed hand out to Cosmo. When he opened his hand, Cosmo gaped and tears welled up in his eyes. He reached out a shaky hand to retrieve the tiny object.
"Why would she-" his throat ran dry and tears trickled down his face. Wanda never took her ring off. Not even in their most heated arguments. This was the first time in 10,000 years the tiny object ever left her finger since he placed it there. This hurt him on a much deeper level. A level that he'd never been hurt on before. The severity of this hit him hard. He hunched over as a sick feeling invaded him.
"Cosmo," Cupid picked up on the immense emotions permeating from his friend. It was very depressing, to say the least. "you need to go to her. Make it right. She's waiting for you."
"Sh-she is?" Cosmo looked up with a gleam of hope in his puffy green eyes. Cupid nodded his head and stood up, pulling Cosmo up with him. He picked up Cosmo's wand from off the rock and handed it to him with a smile.
"You two are meant to be together. Don't give up just because you got into a fight."
"But-"
"Don't argue with me, Cosmo." He looked at Cosmo sternly. "I know you would rather sit here and loath yourself, but right now, Wanda needs you to go to her. Go now and don't leave until you two make up!" He demanded. Cosmo gripped his wand tightly and looked at Cupid one last time, before raising it and disappeared. Cupid turned back to the river and looked up at the moon.
"Those two had better make up, before I take matters into my own hands." He said to himself and then he was gone...
