who the person is inside of me

When I rolled over to the sound of my alarm, my eyes glazed over the room in the hotel that I had been sleeping in. It was small and I looked down and noticed that I was wearing the clothes from last night, and my makeup felt caked on my face. I groaned as I stood up and started to unpack my suitcase. Once I found an apartment, my mom was going to mail and drive everything to me but for now, I was living out of my suitcase.

I bounded down the stairs at precisely 7:15 o'clock so that the man from yesterday wouldn't give me one of his annoyed glares. I was relieved to find other people in my exact situation. I took a seat in one of the plastic chairs they had set up, and tried to focus even though I knew I couldn't.

"Welcome, aspiring journalists, to the campaign trail that will take us many places these coming years!" the man exclaimed, but he wasn't very convincing. "Now, I have another surprise that was not expected and I'm sure you all will be, well surprised. The trail is now going to take us to Washington D.C."

Groans and gasps erupted through the crowd, and I just sighed from exhaustion.

"Now, I know you're all wondering why this change happened so soon, and this is because we believe that in Washington D.C., we will be able to get more of a political angle, and some actual quotes from other candidates including Barack Obama. Help yourself to coffee and donuts in the back, and if you have any questions just ask me! Also, there's a flight leaving tonight if you want to get there soon and there's also a flight tomorrow morning. Thank you for your time and cooperation."

I picked myself up, and walked over to the coffee and donut table.

"Hi, Taylor, and your name is?" the girl standing next to me said bluntly while offering her hand.

"Rory. Hi."

"So, about this moving to D.C. thing, what do you think?"

"I don't know, it seems like a pain to send us here and then send us up there. Anyways, I knew we would be traveling, but this soon? Whatever." I said with an annoyed sigh.

"Yeah, I agree."she replied. Bleh, oh my gosh, I didn't now coffee could be this bad. Whatever you do, don't drink it." she said with a disgusted look on her face.

I poured mine out due to her reaction. "So, how about I give you my number. Also what flight are you thinking of taking?"

"I was thinking the one tonight just to get it over with."

"Same here. So, I'll see you at the airport?"

"Definitely."

The next day, we were boarding the plane from Iowa to Washington D.C., and I still couldn't believe that we were only in Iowa for 24 hours, when we were supposed to be there for even a year possibly. Taylor sat next to me, and took out a people magazine with a smile.

I just looked at my shoes.

"So who's the guy?" Taylor asked with a sly smile

"What? What guy? Oh, it's nothing."

"If it was nothing you wouldn't have been looking glum since the first time I met you, Rory."

"Look, I'm really sorry, I'm just going through a hard time right now and I don't really know you, no offense."

"None taken. So where did you go to college?"

"Yale, I had wanted to go to Harvard all my life, but then I just knew I wanted to go to Yale. Well, after extensive pro con lists. So how about you?"

"Columbia. I was a journalism major and a dance minor, did you have a minor?"

"No. Just being a journalism major seemed enough. I don't even know what I would do if I had to do something physical also!" I said with more respect towards her.

"Oh, thanks. Yeah, I definitely had a full plate, but my grandparents always told me to go for what I wanted."

"Grandparents?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah, my dad died when I was four and my mom bailed on me when I was thirteen so I lived with my grandparents ever since."

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't know. I shouldn't have asked." I replied sheepishly

"No! Please, I don't want anymore pity responses."

"Got it!" I said with a reassuring smile. "So why aren't you out dancing or something?"

"To be honest, I don't know why. I guess I figured I was to old now to pursue that and I was only a dance minor because I enjoyed it and I didn't want to give it up. A lot of the times I wished I had taken that risk, but I didn't and here I am."

"I know how it feels. To be afraid to jump at least. Not the dancer part." I said as my mind drifted to thoughts of Logan.

"Yeah, I think I'm going to try and get some sleep." she replied sadly

"Okay" and she nodded off to sleep on my shoulder. For the rest of the plane ride, I couldn't fall asleep and all I did was doodle in my journal letting my thoughts take me into a conscious coma. I was startled by the feeling of the plane hitting the earth, and I decide to wake Taylor.

"Hey sleepy head, rise and shine!" I whispered in Taylor's ear.

"What do you want?"

"We've arrived."

From the airport, to the rental car, and finally to the hotel was a blur for both me and Taylor. All I remember was crashing in my hotel bed until I heard a knock on my door in the morning.

"Up, up, up!" I heard a girl's voice say

"Taylor?"

"Open up" she whined sarcastically.

"Never!"

"I have coffee" She replied reluctantly.

At that, I dragged myself out of bed and stepped aside so Taylor could come in. She showed me the warm streaming cup of my favorite liquid."Ahhh" I sighed with a smile. I rubbed my eyes with the back of my hands and then took the mug from Taylor. "Thank you" I said with sincere smile.

"Don't worry about it, I was up early to scout out the place out after you crashed in your room. Also, they need us down for a meeting in...now. Okay, let's hustle!"

"No! I have to get changed and oh no, my mom. Shit. I forgot to tell my mom I was in Washington D.C. Ok, I'll just call her after the meeting."

"You get changed and I'll meet you downstairs."

"Okay, good plan." I replied and started washing the makeup and the past off my face.

"Welcome reporters, well some of you at least. The rest should be coming in this afternoon and night. Anyways, I never introduced myself, my name is and I will be your advisor and one of your editors for the campaign trail. Now, we will be staying here for at least 6 months that could continue into a little over a year, so I suggest renting an apartment. We have decided to all meet in two days so that you can all get settled. Any questions?"

Nobody answered except for a few scattered yawns. We were all obviously tired from the flight.

"Well then, thanks for enthusiasm, and get to looking!"

I turned around in my seat to face Taylor. "Hey, so I was wondering if you wanted to be roommates? I know we nearly know each other, but I can't afford rent in this city on my own and also it would be fun, right?"

"Rory, that sounds like a great idea. But first, coffee, we should look for a good place."

"Agreed" I replied as I linked my arm in hers.
