Omake 2
「I will always protect you,
so you just be happy somewhere else.」
Natsu watched as her face went sheet white.
She stared into her backpack, shoulders tensed, as her brown eyes widened to such extent that it made his own eyes hurt.
What was her problem? Was she hurt? Concern prickled in his chest as he watched her quietly panic, latching onto her best friend's arm. Quirking an eyebrow, he watched her whisper something to Cana, only for the latter to roll her eyes.
"I'm serious Cana, I forgot it!" She whispered, looking close to tears. Natsu felt a punch in the gut worm its way throughout his organs, leaving a knot in his throat.
"Calm down Lucy it's only one homework." The brunette eased.
"No Cana, it's not just one homework! This zero will definitely bring my score down a letter grade!"
"You have a hundred and nine in Calculus." She deadpanned, raising an eyebrow for retaliation. The pinkette who was currently eavesdropping brightened at a sudden thought.
Their calculus teacher, Ms. Aquarius, had given him a homework pass when he had solved a problem correct on the board. Why give it to him? Because he wasn't going to do the homework anyway, and to have an excuse would slightly help his failing grade, correct?
Not really.
He really hadn't thought about it. It was in his binder, just waiting to be used. Like he ever would.
But what if you need it? A thought struck him, leaving him uneasy. He thought harder about it, his selflessness vanishing. What if he urgently needed it one day, and wouldn't have it because he gave it to a girl who was nice to him?
But Lucy...she was so nice. She tried so hard, and for this stupid homework to mess up her entire GPA? ...Natsu would hate for such a misfortune thing to happen to someone who actually had a life ahead of them.
He went through the entire day thinking this, debating the pros and cons. Finally arriving to Calc, he made up his mind.
Taking in a deep breath, he set the paper down on Lucy's seat, walking over to his own.
Lucy felt dread amplify throughout her as she shuffled through the doorframe of Ms. Aquarius' calculus class, tears threatening.
One day. One stupid day she forgets her homework, and it has to be this class. The class where the teacher finds every little mistake she can to flunk the poor Heartfilia. Why was she so harsh? Like Lucy knew. But she did know that Aquarius wouldn't let her live this one down.
"All right brats, take out your homework!" The aquatic haired woman barked before Lucy even got to her seat. She hurried over, only to find a slip of paper sitting suspiciously in her chair.
She swept the classroom before daring a peek at the paper, wondering what kind of note it could be.
THIS HOMEWORK PASS CAN SUBSTITUTE ONE HOMEWORK GRADE.
Lucy blinked in confusion, still not getting it. Homework pass? This wasn't hers. She had never earned a homework pass, ever.
She opened her mouth to ask if someone had dropped it, only to see a sticky note attached to the back.
'Yours, wouldn't want that 109 to drop.' Was written in hurried scribble. Her heart nearly leapt out of her chest, joy causing her to cheer.
And as Natsu watched, he decided that getting an F and seeing this wasn't really that bad at all.
