A/N: Yay me, updates two days in a row!
Reset, Chapter 3
"Dr. House, oh Dr. House!" An elderly lady rushed up to Gregory House as he walked through the clinic on his way to his boss's office. She was clearly hiding something behind her back.
"Georgia, my love. And how is my favourite patient today? Not sick, I hope." House had a bit of a soft spot for the older woman he had once treated for syphilis. Not that he'd ever admit it to anyone.
"Oh no, Dr. House. Nothing serious, just my arthritis flaring up a tad. But when my son said he'd bring me in today I knew I had to bring my handsome young doctor a little something. Will you be seeing me today?"
"I'm afraid not Georgia; I'm not on the roster this morning."
Georgia looked disappointed for a second, but soon brightened and said, "Well then I'll just have to give these to you now." Her arm appeared from behind her back and she offered House a small bouquet of multi-coloured Gerbera daisies.
House allowed himself a grin as he accepted the flowers. "Thank you Georgia, you shouldn't have."
"Oh my dear, I must confess my motives weren't completely pure." Her voice dropped to a whisper and House had to lean in to hear her. "I knew they'd make you smile and that sexy smile of yours does such lovely things to my insides."
That comment brought on another rare House grin. "Georgia Adams," a nurse called.
"Oh, that's me. I guess I'd better go," Georgia sighed, looking dejected.
"You know," House said, "My friend Dr. Wilson is working in the clinic today. I think you'd like him, women usually do. Big brown eyes and all that."
Georgia cheered up at that news. "Oh, well, if he's your friend, Dr. House, I'd better not keep him waiting. But don't worry, no matter how nice his eyes are you'll always be my favourite." And with that, she bustled off to the clinic desk.
House continued on to Cuddy's office, entering without bothering to knock as usual. "Good morning Dr. Cuddy!"
"Good morning Dr. House." she replied, setting the coffee she was drinking on the desk in front of her. "Aren't you just a ray of sunshine this morning. Stealing patient's flowers now?"
"Why Dr. Cuddy, I'm shocked that you would imply such a thing. I'll have you know that these flowers were a gift from the president of the Inappropriately Aged Women Who Love Dr. House club." He paused. "You want to join?"
"Well I am far too young for you."
House eased into one of the chairs in front of her desk and set the flowers down in the one beside him. "Ha-ha. Did Cameron come and talk to you yesterday?"
"Yes. She seemed interested and she said she'd get back to me at the end of the week."
"The end of the week! Why the hell would she need three days to think about it! She should be jumping at the chance to get out of that intellectual desert also known as the ER."
"It's not that simple, House. There are more than just intellectual issues to consider."
"Such as?"
"Well for starters, whether she wants to go back to dealing with you every day."
"Not an issue. Cameron loves me, remember."
"Right." Cuddy rolled her eyes. "Well there's also the fact that this is probably going to cause her some problems at home."
"Hmm, I never thought of that." House smirked in way that indicated he most certainly had thought of that.
"House! You can't just go messing around in her relationship with Chase for your own amusement. Not unless you have something else to offer her." Cuddy added meaningfully.
"Oh relax. It wasn't my main goal or anything. Pissing off the Brit would just be a pleasant side effect." House hauled himself up out of the chair. "If you have nothing else to add, I guess I'll head upstairs for my morning nap."
"You going to leave those here?" Cuddy asked, gesturing to the daisies in her other guest chair.
"No. Mine!" House grabbed the bouquet out of the chair. "You'd just love to be able to tell people I gave you flowers, wouldn't you. Well, too bad!"
Just then a knock sounded at the door and Cameron walked in. She looked surprised to see House there with Cuddy, but recovered quickly.
"Um, sorry to interrupt," she said, "but I'm glad you're both here. I've decided to accept your offer."
"Excellent!" Cuddy set her cup of coffee down, stood up and crossed the room, offering Cameron her hand. "I think you've made the right choice."
Cameron smiled and shook Cuddy's hand. "Thank you. I think I have too." She looked over at House who was examining the carpet. "Or at least I hope I have."
"Well, you may as well sit down; we need to discuss your replacement. Do you have any ideas?"
"Yes actually, I think…" she started to say before House interrupted.
"I don't think I need to be here for this part. I've got places to go, people to avoid." He limped over to the door and reached for the handle. Only then did he notice that he still had Georgia's daisies in his left hand. After looking at them in surprise for a moment, he turned around and thrust them at a flabbergasted Cameron. "Here. Welcome back," he said gruffly. He then turned and left before Cameron had even recovered enough to thank him.
