CHAPTER 3
AN: So sorry I literally haven't posted in 5ever but here's the next chapter.
I heard the blaring alarm vibrate through my head and reluctantly crawl out of bed shutting it off. Rubbing my eyes I take off my pajamas throwing on low cut black tee and tight leather pants. Staring at my reflection I still feel a little weird, even after being gone a year from abnegation I still feel a little uncomfortable showing so much skin. "Once a stiff always a stiff." I think with a sigh brushing out my long blonde hair and deciding to just leave it down realizing I still have a little time before I need to get to training.I decide to try out wearing some eyeliner and mascara, and of course I mess up and get mascara all over the top of my eye. Cursing I grab a cotton pad and it takes a good 7 minutes to rub it completely off, seeing as I don't own any makeup remover. Looking over at the clock I see it's already 8:03. "Already late on the first day, great example Tris." I mentally scold myself while running down the compound with only half of my combat boots on my foot. I finish slipping on the rest of my boots as I burst through the door, sort of out of breath. Tobias looks me up and down and gives me a rude smirk. "I see you finally decided to make an appearance, Tr-Six." He says to me, clearly almost forgetting I decided to go by "Six" in front of the initiates. Out of the corner of my eye I see Ariel and two of her friends, both Candor, Sandra and Sophia, giggling to each other silently. I just ignore them and listen to what
Tobias is saying. "The first thing you will learn today is how to shoot a gun, the second fighting techniques." He says in a quiet mysterious voice, the same one that caused my group of initiates to fear him, and the same voice that I now fall in love with every time I hear it. I decide to speak up for the next part, having my breath back now. "On a stand behind you, you will see there is a gun, pick it up and hold it in front of you like so." I say as loudly and strongly as my petite self can muster. Tobias and I pick up our guns and demonstrate how to hold them. Pointing them at our target with is 2x the distance away there's is, I pray I don't miss and make a fool of myself. I'm not the worst shooter, but I'm definetly no Tobias. I cock the gun and fire seeing it hit a little off center but still in the red bulls-eye. I turn back around with a smile as does Tobias after he fires his. "We've shown you how it's done, now show us." He tells them. I watch as the initiates pick up their guns with a look of confusion and self doubt. They all looked at each other waiting for someone to take the first shot, then a hear a shot from the end of the room, and a smiling Ariel obviously pleased that she hit the edge of the target on the first try. Then I hear a ripple effect as everyone starts firing, rarely hitting the targets. I look over at Tobias and give him a look of embarrassment. "We weren't that bad were we?" I ask hopefully though I know the answer. He takes two steps closer to me so that we're almost touching, suddenly I regret the agreement not to let the initiates know we're together, the agony of wanting him to hold me in that moment was painful. "No Tris you weren't that bad." He says with a smirk. "You were worse." He states plainly giving me a smug smile. I punch him in the arm as hard as I can, even though I know it won't hurt him practically at all. "Ouch Tris!" He says clearly acting like he's hurt for my sake. I roll my eyes. "Oh man up Tobias" I say giving him the same smug smile back. I open my mouth to talk again when I'm interrupted by someone yelling across the room. Tobias and I snap our heads around to find the source of the sound and my eyes find Ariel, something about her I just can't stand and my eyes narrow. "Um Four sir I need some help, I can't figure this out." Tobias gives me a reluctant look as he jogs over to her. I watch as he wraps his arms around her with the same strength but odd gentleness that he touches me with and my cheeks go hot. I hear her gun ring out as she hits the dead center, with a huge grin. "Oh my gosh thanks so much Four!" She says turning quickly while his arms were still around her putting them way too close together. Tobias pulled back but I still couldn't take it. "Time for lunch!" I yelled and the initiates all threw down their guns running for the dining hall, a large Erudite boy knocking me down and not even bothering to stop. "At least he'll fit into Dauntless just fine." I thought getting up and brushing myself off. Tobias put his arm around my waist as we walked back over to the gun stations to pick up the guns the initiates had dropped. "You did great Tris." He told me planting a kiss on my temple. "Yeah so did you, especially with Ariel." I said quietly, practically a whisper and bit my lip. He didn't reply and instead slowly pulled his hand from my back. I could tell he felt strange about the situation too, and I didn't know if that made me feel better or worse. We both just picked up the guns in silence.
Tobias and I entered the dining hall together finding two places at the end of the initiates' table, near most of the boys. I slid into my seat and Tobias did the same right beside me. Almost immediately I heard it from the girl's side of the table, the talking, the giggling and distinctive finger pointing in our direction. I just shook my head deciding not to let it get to me. "So why did you choose Dauntless?" I ask no one in particular, and take a small bite of my hamburger. "Well statistically I figured the chances of me passing initiation in all of the factions and with my physical structure and mental strength it came out that Dauntless, in fact, was my best bet." Evan says with a grin. Once an erudite always an erudite. I thought. "That's one way to figure out which faction to be in." Tobias said with a small, deep chuckle. I sighed internally, I was really regretting the decision to not let the initiates know we're dating, why did he just have to be so freaking attractive. Finishing the last bite of my burger, I stood up to throw away my trash. I turned around to walk back to the table when I bumped into somebody. I looked up to see the serious face of Tobias, I raise my eyebrows, pushing him to speak seeing as he clearly wanted to say something to me. "Tris we need to talk… just not here." He tells me plainly. "Why?" I ask noticing the strange way he's moving. Before he got a chance to reply I'm pushed back by a blunt force, It takes a couple seconds for me to realize the force was a person, Ariel. I sneer, "Excuse you!" I yell, not really in my character but every time she gets near me something snaps. "Whoa Six" She says with innocence that I can only believe to be fake, "I was just trying to throw away my trash." Ariel finished dumping her plate. When I look up at Four he is raising an eyebrow at me, clearly also taken by my sudden outburst. "I'll meet you at 8:30 tonight." I tell him and quickly sit down, my face flushed with my embarrassment. I don't know what it is about Ariel that makes me feel different, then it hits me, I"m jealous I can't help but notice she totally has some personal connection with Tobias that I never saw before. I also realize that it's a connection I could never have with him myself.
