Ahhh~ Just a little trouble with planning out how these chapters are going. I'm sure I'm not supposed to do this, but I come up with each chapter on the fly. -sweatdrop- I've got some major details down, but the smaller points end up giving me the most trouble. Weeeeell, anyway, here's the next chapter. Enjoy!
There was no plausible explanation for it.
None what so ever.
She tried every possible method, every corner of nanite technology to find even a shred of reason for the sudden spike of energy from Rex's nanites.
Nothing. Nadda.
That spike shouldn't have been possible, there was simply too much energy flowing from the nanites, they couldn't have withheld that much power without overloading themselves. Then there's the matter of where that force came from. It just literally came out of nowhere, strengthening the healing factors of Rex's nanites to unbelievable heights.
As a scientist, she knew that energy had to come from somewhere. The Law of Conservation of Energy stated without doubt that energy could not be created nor destroyed. So with these laws in mind, Dr. Holiday set out to uncover just what happened during the battle. It had to be something inside Rex, as no outside force was detected when it happened and given how the energy moved, this form was using the nanites in Rex's body as a medium to perform its task and leave.
One question plagued her more then the others. If, by some chance, that energy was always within Rex, why did it chose now to activate.
She sighed, taking a moment to re-examine the nanite readings from the E.V.O. she was able to collect of the giant ice menace. These readings were took using Rex's nanites to analysis the strange E.V.O.'s own nanites. They were very different from the data she normally received. The base of it all was the same, the same basis structure of energy and functions. That's where the similarities end.
Dr. Holiday had noticed a similar data reading from the ice E.V.O. and Rex's data readings. A sense of fear enveloped her as the two seemingly different energy sources gained more and more connections as she examined it. The data from both was almost exactly the same, there were a few differences but Holiday concluded that was due to the nature of the power, one is some kind of icicle ability while the other was an advanced form of healing.
This had to be researched further. As soon as Rex returned they would be able to examine the strange force inside of him.
It was strange, he actually agreed for a test to examine his nanites willingly. Though Holiday noted that he keep sneaking a glance at his hands. He didn't understand that had happened and it greatly disturbed him, yet for some reason she could detect a feeling of content buried underneath all of his conflicting emotions.
As the machine lit up in a frenzy of lights, Holiday observing the data scroll up the screen, watching for some slight blip in the information. She had the computer compare the newly obtained data with some older data. So far nothing.
"Find anything Doc?" Rex's voice caught her attention. She sighed, "Nothing yet. It's like the foreign energy has somehow integrated itself into your own natural signature. It'll be difficult to find but now we know what to look for."
Rex hummed in agreement and for a short while it was silent. Both were too tense with anticipation to speak. Six walked in just as the computer beeped loudly.
"Find something?" He asked.
Holiday ignored him briefly, preferring to analysis the data.
"It appears to be some kind of energy link." She stated, eyes darting back and forth reading the text. "I might be able to trace the source through the link."
"So what? There's something linked to me through me nanites?" Rex asked, "Fun. Is it some diabolical manic?"
"Hopefully not." Six answered, crossing his arms, expression as blank as it always was.
"Almost there." Muttered Holiday with a few more clicks of the keyboard, "I have located the source!"
All eyes snapped towards the computer screen, watching as the data scrambled to form an image. It appeared to be a sphere of data encircled by nanites.
"Cim's."
The voice startled all of them, Six was less noticeable but still surprised.
"What the hell is that?" Rex yelped, eying the image with suspicion. Holiday went to work trying to decipher the message. Suddenly the screen lit up with warning messages and blaring red lights.
"Holiday." Six said, with a slight demanding tone.
Said doctor began frantically typing but nothing she did resolved anything.
"Ow ow ow ow!"
The adults quickly turned to the teen only to find him writhing in pain, steam pouring out from his skin and clutching his chest. (1)
Holiday came to realize what his reaction meant and quickly severed the link they had previously discovered. Not a second after the link broke the pain vanished from Rex's face as the steam ceased, he seemed almost peaceful after such an ordeal.
"Interesting." She mused as she tended to Rex, "It seems like your nanites were trying to protect whatever made contact with us."
"Can they at least tell me before pulling that again." Moaned Rex, his temperature slightly above normal after the incident.
"I think they did." Six added, "Cim's. Think you can decipher it."
Holiday frowned, "If I had a bit more to work with I might be able to."
"No."
Rex looked slightly uneasy, "Somehow I get the feeling that's what it meant."
The doctor looked questionably at him while Six merely raised an eyebrow.
Recognizing the sign to elaborate, he said, "I-I've been having these really weird dreams lately, I don't remember what happens exactly but I remember the people were speaking a strange language. Sounded like the one we heard earlier."
"Why didn't you mention this before Rex?" Holiday asked.
"Didn't seem all that important at the time."
I really shouldn't stop here but I'm running low on ideas on how to continue. Internet has been down for two days. It was pure agony. X3 If you liked the chapter than please leave a review.
(1) If you ever watched Case Closed/Detective Conan, then you'd know I got the idea for that whenever Shinichi turns into a child/teen.
