Chapter 3:
Would she be back? That was all I needed to know. I didn't want to ask my mom because she would get excited that I was finally "moving on" and then disappointed when she realized that I was still hung up on Annabeth.
So I decided to call Thalia. "Hey, Thalia, what's going on?" I said as soon as she picked up.
"Nothing much, what about you?" She sounded surprised to hear me. "I haven't heard from you sinceā¦a long time ago." I guessed she didn't want to talk about Annabeth's "death" either.
"I need your help." I explained to her the whole situation and how I needed to get my parents back out of the house.
"Wow, Percy, you really got yourself into a tangle this time. I could set up a birthday party for a little kid that needs candy; that'll get your mom out of the house, and your stepdad is never home anyway." Thalia was almost as good at planning as Annabeth.
"Okay, when can you do that by? Tonight?" I might have sounded a bit too eager, because Thalia laughed.
"All you need to know is that Annabeth will be back at your house tomorrow. Also, you should try her phone number. It's probably the same."
I nodded, and then remembered she couldn't see me. "Thanks and bye!"
I scrolled through my contacts until I found Wise Girl. I dialed the number and it started to ring. But it was answered by an answering machine. "Hi," said Annabeth's voice. "I wish I could answer, but I'm busy right now. So please leave a message after the beep."
Then there was a beep, and I began to speak. "Hi Wise Girl, this is Seaweed Brain. I love you, I miss you, and I wish you would remember me. I just need to hear your voice. Call me back soon!" I left my number and then hung up.
I was going to stay up all night just in case she did end up calling back. There was no limit to the price I was going to pay to get back my girlfriend.
