Sorry that I haven't updated this story in a while, I have been working on a few other projects. But here is the 3rd chapter of Bad Dreams. I hope that my wonderful readers love it.
I only own the plot not the wonderful characters inside.
Chapter 3
The next morning, Marshal tried to let Fionna sleep in because she didn't get much the night before. He didn't want to ask her about the dream, because he was pretty sure what it was about. He was unsure if he was able to protect her for very long.
He watched her sleep for a little while before actually getting leaving the room. She looked so small and weak laying there in his bed. But Marshal knew first hand-to the face-that she was stronger than she looked. He sighed.
He wanted nothing more than to lay there with her until she woke up, but that would cross a line. She was 16, but she was his best and only friend.
He didn't want to lose her.
He floated to his kitchen. He went straight for the fridge. He pulled out a strawberry soda and drank it, even though he was supposed to only drink the red.
He grabbed his pancake pan and the pancake mix. He started making them with ease. He lost himself in his work. It kept his mind and hands busy, like playing his guitar did.
He didn't even realize that Fionna was watching him.
She smiled as she did so. She didn't know that Marshal could cook. She watched him add red food coloring to the batter so that he could eat them as well.
She noticed a small crease form between his eyebrows, the same one that formed when he wrote a new song, or was thinking really hard about something.
"Morning Marshy!" She exclaimed, making Marshal jump. She laughed, having never seen him jump before.
He stuck his tongue out at her.
"How... How are you feeling this morning?" He asked hesitantly. Fionna's smile faded.
"Fine." She lied quickly. Marshal sighed.
"Liar, you've always been a bad liar, Fi. You can't fool me." He said seriously.
Fionna scolded. "I am not lying. I am really fine." She tried to convince him.
He turned the stove off, setting the last pancake on the plate to cool. He turned to face the young girl. He had his usual smirk on his face. He rushed towards her. He scooped her into his arms. She squealed in either delight or fake fear.
He spun around one time.
One of his arms was under her legs, and the other was behind her back.
He looked at her to find that she was blushing deeply. He chuckled.
"Ma... Marshal? Can I ask you something?" She whispered avoiding eye contact? He was confused.
"Sure Fionna." He went to the table and sat her down and stood before her, not bothering to float.
"Hypothetically speaking, what would you say if... Someone told me that this... Boy likes me more than a friend, and... Well, that this friend was always around me... And," she squeezed her eyes shut before she continued. "That that boy was... You?" Her voice got really high pitch at the last word.
Marshal not wanted to freak her out sat there for a second before busting out laughing.
"Fionna listen to me. I do care about you, but you are my best friend. And 987 years younger than me. I don't love you the way that you think. I love you like a sister. Like a bro." Marshal smiled at her. She looked at him finally. She looked relieved.
"Do you understand?" He asked. She nodded.
He walked into the living room. He wondered who knew his secret. He shouldn't care about a human girl as much as he did.
"Marshal?" Fionna called from the kitchen.
"Just a sec, I forgot something upstairs OK." He lied.
"'Kay."
Marshal flew up into his room. He didn't need something, but he needed an excuse to call him.
He grabbed his phone. His number was on speed dial, even though he hasn't called him in a long time.
"Hello?" A familiar voice said on the other end.
"It's me, I need to ask you something very important. It's about Fionna." Marshal told him everything that happened.
"Dang, That's some heavy stuff for a 16 year old girl. Does Gumball know?" He asked.
"No, I haven't told him yet, not Cake. I didn't want them to tap into my phone if they could." Marshal explained.
"Then why call me."
"Because, you are the only one who know's how I feel about her. I didn't even tell mom yet." Marshal Shuttered at the thought of even telling Lilith about that.
"I'm sorry man, don't know what to tell you." Marshal ran his fingers though his hair.
"Did you say anything to anyone about it-"
"No!" He interrupted.
"Good, well I have to go. But I promise to keep you updated on the situation." He was about to hang up when he spoke again.
"She'll get through this, you know. She's tough. She's going to be stronger because of it." He sounded very confident in this.
"I know, Roy, I have to go. Bye." He hung up on his younger brother, Marshal Leroy.
"Thanks for the pancakes, they were really good." Fionna said trying to be cheery. Marshal could tell that it was forced.
"Your welcome." He smiled. She looked out the window, which was pointless because she only saw the cave walls. "Hey Fionna, can I ask you something?" He said as his smile faded.
"Sure." She said in a monotone voice.
"How... how did you escape?" He hoped that it wouldn't be too touchy of a subject for her.
"I just found myself unchained so I booked it, running as fast as I could." She clearly wasn't telling the whole story, but Marshal didn't push her.
"Does Cake know that I'm free?" She looked worried. Marshal sighed.
"No," He continued when Fionna gave him a horrified look. "But... I will when I believe that you are safe." She relaxed a bit.
"OK, I understand." She looked disappointed.
"Hey, you want to watch movies?" Marshal asked to lighten the mood.
"Sure, it's not like there's anything better to do here." She said.
"Gee thanks." Marshal said sarcastically.
They both watched movies until Fionna fell asleep. Marshal carried her to his room, not even bothering to turn off the movie, he's seen it hundreds of times.
He hoped that she wouldn't have nightmares, but his hopes were in vain. She did dream. And it was bad.
I heard footsteps. I struggled against the chain around my ankle. I have been trying to pick it since I got here. How long has it been. A day, two day's, a week? I have lost all sense of time.
The pain doesn't help any. The draining hurts so much. The needle hurts every time that it enters my arm.
"Fionna?" The voice is familiar to me, but I can't place it.
I see a dark figure making his way to me. I panic. I know instantly that it is a vampire, the pale skin gave him away.
"Don't worry, I'm not like the other's. I don't want your blood." He claimed.
Liar, She thought, but she didn't dare to speak her accusation.
"My name is Roy, you can trust me. I want to help you, but I can't right know." He stepped towards her to reveal that he had a mask on. It instantly reminded her of the Phantom of the Opera that Cake made her watch only once.
His raven black hair showed around the edges of the mask.
"Ma... Marshal?" She asked. Her voice sounded scratchy and course from the lack of water and usage. He knelt before her on the balls of his feet.
"Sadly I am not the Vampire King. But I am your friend. I bring water." He held the bottle to her lips. She drank most of it in a single chug.
"Thank you, Roy." She said. Her voice sounded a million times better.
"I have to go, but I will return to free you soon." He stood up and turned towards where he came.
"Wait!" She whisper shouted.
"I will come back I promise." He turned invisible right in front of her.
He didn't hear him walk away, but she heard more footsteps approaching her. She went into complete panic mode.
"Hello dear Fionna," She heard the Lich's voice from the darkness. "Are you ready to give more of your life giving gift?" She asked, her voice practically purred. Fionna saw that she looked even more human than before.
She wanted to scream for Roy, but she couldn't.
The Lich held the needle in her hand. She place it in the crease of her elbow and gently pressed it into her skin.
She screamed as pain shot through her body as her blood was being drained.
Fionna realized as her throat burned that she was screaming in real life as well.
"Fionna! Please say something!" Marshal screamed. After she was done she cried loudly until she fell back asleep.
She didn't even say a word to Marshal. He held her close to as they in the bed together.
She didn't dream the rest of the night.
Well, well, well. Marshal Leroy has found his way into my story. And in a very interesting way. Will Marshal find out about what his brother Roy knows from Fionna? Will Roy be seen again? Will I ever stop asking the readers these questions I already know the answers to? The world may never know.
