African Sorceress
Maya's POV
I gasped and darted back as far away from the vampire as I could, but he just sauntered closer.
"Go away!" I told him, my voice wavering lightly from fear. He simply grinned at me and touched my cheek.
"So beautiful" he whispered "You'd make a perfect mate for me" I almost gaged. Realising I needed help, I fumbled for my necklace.
"What are you looking for darling?" he asked, and I went still, but closed my hand around the stone first. I shut my eyes
Help! Help! Vampire!
Maya?
Quil help me there's a vampire here! I sensed that quil had started running towards my scent. He was by far the best tracker in the pack
Im on my way
"… and then I could do as I please with you and…" I tuned out the crazed vampire, until he grabbed my wrist.
"Wolves! Quick, my darling, we need to run!"
"No thanks" I said, and sat down on the floor. That's when Mr Darling got angry.
"Come here you bitch" he spat, and dragged me up, then slung me across his back and started running. I felt motion sick already, and was tempted to be sick on him. Then a wolf crossed our path. I grinned, while the vampire groaned and ran faster. Suddenly I was falling, then landed on a soft pillow. Wolf.
"Thanks" I smiled at the wolf, recognising the russet fur and knowing it was Jake. He bared his teeth in an almost-grin, and stayed on the floor.
"What, am I getting a lift?" His tongue rolled out and he panted like an excited dog. I laughed and jumped on. "For Narnia!" I cried, and grabbed on tight to the soft coat of my steed.
When we both got to Sam's Jake ran off, I assumed to finish off the vampire. I remembered how I hadn't paid Sam for his hospitality yet, and decided to ask him where the nearest bank that I could exchange money in was.
"We have a small one in la Push actually- I can take you there if you want?"
"No it's fine, I'd rather like a walk" Sam smiled and gave me directions.
As I walked into the bank I got a few probing looks, but no one approached me. I think it was because I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts in ten degrees weather,(AN:I don't understand Fahrenheit so everything's going to be in Celsius) but also looked like I was on a mission, so I would contribute towards the staff's pocket. I walked up to the desk.
"Can I exchange some African currency for dollars please?" I asked the bored- looking desk woman.
"Of course, how much do you have?"
"I have 243.56 African pounds." I had counted it out before I left
"Just give me a second," The woman said, and tapped some figures on the screen
"Okay," she said, squinting at the screen, "You can get 209.87 dollars from that, including the bank's cut. Do you have the money with you?" She asked me
"Yeah it's in my bag," I replied and reached in for the wad of notes and coins. I placed them on the counter and she began the tedious job of counting them out
"Okay that's all there, here's your money," She said, and handed me a thick envelope filled with my money.
"Thank-you!" I said, too cheerfully, and walked out of the bank, making a bee line for the fast food place. I ordered a big burger, large fries and lemonade. I ate quickly, and afterwards I felt nice and satisfied. I walked out of the shop and started heading back the way I came, when I saw a very worried looking Jacob wandering down the street. I looked down at the pavement but he had seen me and headed over. I wondered why he was so worried, but as soon as he saw me his face relaxed from its tense expression and fell into a wide grin. Had he been searching for me?
"Hi, what are you doing in town?" He asked curiously.
"I desperately needed food so I exchanged my African currency for dollars and bought some food." I replied, fiddling with the strap on my bag. His face creased with concern
"You were hungry? Why didn't you tell me? I could have gotten you something in La Push…" he started, but I stopped it.
"I still needed dollars instead of African money, and I don't accept charity when I can fend for myself." I said in the hope of shaking this protective stance over me that was his unspoken priority. It didn't work.
"Okay, I was just looking for you. I was worried when I couldn't find you in La Push." Jacob said, "Are you going to head back now?"
"Yeah, I am." I said and started walking. He kept up my pace easily and tried talking for a bit, but I just nodded in what seemed the right places. He asked me questions about myself, but I didn't answer right. I was really tired, and just wanted to get back to La Push and fall asleep. As we neared the Rez School, kids of around my age started pouring out of the schoolyard. A few recognised Jacob and said hi. I didn't say anything, just continued walking. Finally we got to the beach and I walked up to the cave I had found, and curled up inside it.
"What are you doing?" Jacob asked me. He was really confused
"Going to sleep." I replied, my words slurred together, highlighting what I had just said
"No! You can't sleep here!" Jacob said loudly
"What?" I asked sleepily
"You can't sleep outside, you'll get hypothermia, come to my house, you can sleep there," he said desperately in a soothing voice, but there was no way I was moving another muscle. Sighing in defeat, Jacob pulled off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders to keep me warm, and sat down on a boulder. I was too deeply under to shrug off the jacket, but I was grateful for the extra warmth. That night the Pack starred in my dreams.
