Liz takes Devan inside and grabs her cell phone off of the counter in the kitchen and hits the side button to light up the screen. Liz texts her friend Marla, someone she has known since her dad dated Marla's mother many years ago. Marla knows about hunting, Elizabeth's past and how to protect herself if anything supernatural were to come along. She asks her if she would mind coming and picking up the children while she deals with the cops. Mrs. Wheeler is still in the driveway as the cops pull in and runs towards the police cruisers frantically. Liz keeps the baby monitor clipped to her jeans and turns the tv on for Devan.
" Sorry honey that this is ruining your day.. " Liz says sadly.
"It's ok mom, you dad and uncle Sam need to do this anyway." He says giving her a quick hug then hopping onto the couch and grabbing the remote.
Liz leaves the house and makes her way down the driveway towards the cops and poor hysterical Mrs. Wheeler. Liz hates cops mostly because they are too ignorant to understand all the good hunters do and also because they treat you as if you're stupid even if you aren't. As she approaches them she looks down at the monitor to make sure it is still working and turned up loud. The two officers are getting out of their vehicles, one is tall, thin and young, the other is shorter and but muscular. Liz could tell the short one was going to be difficult because his walk and attitude looked as if he thought he was god's gift to women. Liz smirks to herself thinking, god doesn't give gifts buddy just problems women have to deal with.
" Hello officers I'm Elizabeth Caine, this is my residence." She explains holding out her hand for them to shake.
" This is officer Clint Woodley and I am officer Brad Stodden. We were just speaking to Mrs. Wheeler here who informed us she dropped her son Jason off for a birthday party and when she came back for him he was no longer here." Officer Stodden says introducing himself, taking Liz's hand to shake it and getting her up to speed.
" Can we go inside and have a look around? " The shorter officer Woodley asks, not really waiting for a response but making his way to the door of the house anyway.
Just then Marla pulls her Honda CRV into the driveway behind the cruisers and slides out from behind the seat. Marla has short red hair that blows around her face in the evening wind as she walks toward them pulling her forest green cardigan tightly around herself. The two officers turn when they hear her coming and frown, probably thinking the worst.
" Officers this is my step sister Marla Delaney she will be taking my two boys to stay with her for the night. They don't really need to be here for the investigation. You can go right through the front doors here and hang a left and the screen door will take you out back to where the party took place. If you need anything just yell. " Liz explains taking Marla by the arm and leading her into the house the a sharp turn to the living room.
Liz gathers her older son and the three of them go upstairs to grab their already packed travel bags and also to fetch Simon from his crib. Marla helps Devan gather a few of his newly acquired toys into a smaller bag so he can take them with him over to her house. Then once that task is finished they join Elizabeth in the nursery. Liz has changed Simon put him in a warmer sleeper and placed him in his car seat, all without waking him up. She places a blanket strategically around the baby and kisses his tiny forehead before turning her attention to Marla.
" I don't really know what is going on.. All i know is this kid is missing and it has to be the clown.. I bet I am going to end up down at the police precinct so here take Sam's cell number and get ahold of him oh and i bet i will need a lawyer so send Matthew down there as soon as you can." She explains whispering and handing Marla a piece of paper with two numbers.
Marla nods not needing any more information than what was already given to her younger but wise step sister. Their parents may not have gotten married but after Liz's mother walked out on the two of them, her father's relationship with Nora was the longest he ever had after. Liz and Marla formed a bond that made them more like family than their parents could have hoped which left Liz at ease letting her children stay with her. Liz picks up the diaper bag and slings it on her shoulder then picks up the cooler bag full of bottles in one hand and the car seat in the other before heading down the stairs, Devan and Marla right on her heels. She leads them all the way to the CRV, opens the back door and buckles the car seat in. Devan has already grabbed his booster seat from the entrance closet and Marla buckles him in. Liz gives each of her sons a kiss and hug not to mention telling them she loves them. This causes a pit to form in her stomach forcing her to think of all the bad things she suppresses daily about having children when you are a hunter. She forces them back as she closes the car door and goes up to Marla's window.
" Don't worry about me just keep the boys safe. You know i can handle myself. " Liz says and waves going back up to the front step.
She goes into the kitchen for a second to send a quick text to Sam which reads; Hey cops are here looks like i'm going to the station Marla has the kids. Will meet up later. then grabs a couple bottles of water before making her way out to her streamer covered balloon filled back yard. Liz hoped that she had a chance to clean the yard up before it rained streamers don't like to come off easy when wet.
" Sorry about that officers, is there anything I could help with or any questions i could answer? Would you like a bottle of water?" She offers holding out the bottles.
"No thanks ma'am." They both decline.
" We would like you to come downtown to the police station and get your statement. If you wouldn't mind coming with us." Officer Stodden says.
" Can i take my own vehicle?" Liz asks smiling.
" No we prefer that you come with us. " Officer Woodley states.
Liz thinks to herself; This could be a long night is Matt is busy. None the less she agrees grabs her purse and locks the doors to the house before climbing in the back of the cruiser. Mrs. Wheeler whose husband has just pulled up gets in with him and follows the cruiser a shiny white Dodge Charger.
