This is based off of the song 'Am I Not Pretty Enough' by Kacey Chambers.
This takes place after the series ends. I have noticed in some episodes of season 10, Cosmo and Wanda's relationship seems to be improving somewhat. And since I'm a sucker for happy endings, here is some closure.
XxX
Wanda sat at her vanity, observing her reflection in the mirror. She took her hair down and allowed it to fall in loose curls around her shoulders. It wasn't as long as it used to be, but it was still curly, swirly and soft.
Am I not pretty enough?
Is my heart too broken?
Do I cry too much?
Am I too outspoken?
She wasn't as young as she used to be. Although she didn't have wrinkles and her body still looked the same as it did when they were young. She didn't even need to wear makeup.
Don't I make you laugh?
Should I try harder?
Why do you see right trhough me?
She remembered when he told her he would always love her. She never doubted him. But if he loved her, why did he insult her and look at other women... younger women?
I live, I breathe, I let it rain on me
I sleep, I wake, I try hard not to break
I crave, I love, I've waited long enough
I try as hard as I can
Her tears fell uncontrollably. She hunched over and placed her head in her hands as the sobs escaped from her broken heart. He lied! He didn't really love her forever like he promised!
I laugh, I feel, I make believe it's real
I fall, I freeze, I pray down on my knees
I hope, I stand, I take it like a man
I try as hard as I can
"Wanda?"
She heard a faint voice call her name and she immediately wiped her face of the brokenness from within. She quickly waved her wand to make herself look presentable so she didn't give herself away.
There he was. The very man who held her heart and the same man who broke it.
"Hey" She said faintly, not looking at him.
Cosmo walked up behind her and looked at her through the reflection of the mirror.
"You've been crying." He observed, sadness evident in his voice.
She looked back at his reflection with her mouth slightly open. How could he tell? She had fixed herself up so he couldn't see. She just stared at him with the silent question lingering.
"I heard you..." He answered the silent question and looked away from the mirror, still standing behind her.
Wanda bit her lip and tried to hold back a tear that was threatening to slide down her cheek.
"It's because of me, isn't it?" He said ashamed, his own tears threatening to fall.
"No." She lied
"Yes, it is! I know it is!"
Wanda turned to look at him directly
"Please," He got down on his knees in front of her. "please don't lie to me. I know it's because of me." He took her hands in his and looked into her eyes.
"Cosmo, I..." her voice cracked and she hung her head.
Cosmo noticed her face scrunch up and the tears broke free. He gasped when he saw her shake under the pressure of her sobs. He quickly lifted himself up on his knees to wrap his arms around her.
Wanda rested her head on his shoulder and wrapped her arms around his neck. She longed to be in his arms. It had been months since he held her like this. All these months of them constantly fighting and calling each other names has taken it's toll. Thankfully Poof was away at school, so he didn't have to witness them fighting so much. It was bad enough that Timmy and Chloe has to witness it on a daily basis.
Cosmo sat on the floor, pulling Wanda off her chair and into his lap, never breaking his embrace. The two sat like that for some time. When Wanda couldn't cry any more, she slowly lifted her head to look at him.
Cosmo wiped her face with his hands and began rubbing her back gently.
"Cosmo, what are we doing?"
"What do you mean?" He asked, cocking his head to the side like a confused puppy.
"I mean, we fight so much. Our marriage is changing, we are changing and..." she took a deep shaky breath "it's scaring me." She whispered.
Cosmo's eyes went wide. Wanda was scared? But she was always the brave one! How could she be scared? He knew they had been fighting more than usual lately, but he honestly didn't even know why.
"Why are you scared?" He asked quietly
"Because, Cosmo." She pulled away from him to stand up. "Our marriage is falling apart. You look at other women. You call me names and insult me all the time. And I just..." She trailed off trying to regain some composure as she walked over to her bed.
Cosmo was just as confused as ever. He stood up and walked over to her and spun her around to face him.
"Wanda, I-"
"You what, Cosmo?" She knitted her brows together in frustration, pulling away from him again. "I know I'm not young like I used to be. I know I'm not the prettiest or thinnest fairy and I can be a little outspoken about things but, I just..." She closed her eyes and tried to swollen the lump in her throat.
"Do you still love me?" She asked quietly.
"What?!" Cosmo was taken off guard. How could she asked such a mundane question?
"You heard me. Do you still love me?" She repeated a little louder than she intended.
"Wanda! Why would you even ask that question? You know I love you!"
"Well, you haven't been showing me lately. And what about all those other fairies you drool over?" She crossed her arms over her chest and huffed. "You don't want me anymore, do you?"
"What?" His green eyes went wide
Wanda just sighed and rolled her eyes before getting into bed and turned off the lights.
"Good night, Cosmo!" She said annoyed and rolled over so she wasn't facing him.
Cosmo stood in the dark, frozen in place. His mind kept replaying the last several minutes. Wanda thought he didn't love her anymore. She thought he wasn't attracted to her anymore. She said their marriage was falling apart. That he wanted someone else?
The green haired fairy quickly turned on the light, determination on his face.
"What are you doing?" Wanda asked annoyed, sitting up.
"You think I don't love you anymore? And that you're not pretty? And you think I want someone else!" He said angrily.
"Well, it's true, isn't it?" She challenged.
That's it!
"I can't believe you would ever think that, Wanda!" His eyes narrowed.
"Well, the way you treat me says it all." She looked away as more tears came.
"Wanda," He began. When she didn't look at him, he climbed on the bed and turned her face in his direction. He gulped when he saw the tears in her eyes
"I never meant to hurt you like this." He cupped her face with both hands. "I love you so much. You are so beautiful and perfect and everything I will always want, for the rest of eternity!"
Wanda slapped his hands away and anger became evident on her face.
"That's what you said millennia's ago, but a few months ago you said you didn't realize how long eternity was and that I trapped you!" She snapped
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to say that!"
"But you did, Cosmo! You said it and it seemed like you meant it!"
"But I didn't mean it! Wanda, you have to believe me! I want you and only you, forever! I-"
Wanda shook her head. How can he sit here and say he loves her and still wants to be with her forever when he treated her so badly?
"Cosmo, maybe we weren't meant to be together forever..." she trailed off sadly
Cosmo's eyes grew even wider. What was she saying? She wasn't suggesting that... no! She can't be...
"Wh-What?" He voice was cracking as the realization of her words hit him. "N-no! Wanda! We... we were meant to be together forever. Pl-please give me another chance!" He begged as he sobbed
Wanda watched him break down. It pained her to even think of the words she just spoke to him. But something needed to be said. They had two options. Either they figure out a way to fix this mess, or they end it. A knot formed in Wanda's stomach at the last thought.
"Cosmo," She placed a hand on his and he looked at her with tears falling from his eyes. "I want to be with you forever too. But I just can't do this anymore."
Fear overtook the green haired fairy at those last words.
"All the fighting and name calling, the insults, it's all too much."
"Then... then I'll change! Please Wanda! Please stay! I can't live without you! I-I don't want to!" His cries became uncontrollable
Wanda wrapped her arms around him and they cried together.
"I love you so much and I really don't want to leave. But," she pulled away from him to look at him "we need to fix our marriage or it's going to get worse and be destroyed completely."
"Then let's fix it!" He said without hesitation
Wanda smiled at him. Earlier she was worried he wouldn't want to or even care about fixing their marriage. But the fact that he was upset over the way it's been going gave her hope.
"Well, to start, no more insults or name calling." She said
"Done!" He gave a firm nod
"And no more looking at other women."
"Never?" He whined and Wanda glared at him
"Okay, no more pretty girls." He held his hands up in defense
She smiled. She knew he would have a hard time remembering all of this. But as long as he was willing to at least try, she would be happy.
"There is one more thing." She said slyly.
Cosmo looked at her curiously. Wanda leaned in and kissed him. It had been so long since they shared a kiss. Between them fighting and granting wishes between two godchildren and tending to their son, whenever he wasn't at school, they didn't have time for intimate moments like this.
Wanda pulled away and looked at a dazed Cosmo, who had a goofy smile on his face.
"Wow!" He managed
Wanda smirked in triumph
"That's been way overdue!" Wanda said laughing
Cosmo smiled at her mischievously and Wanda eyed him suspiciously. Suddenly he pounced on her, causing her to squeal in delight.
"You know what else is overdue?" He asked, inching his hand up her thigh.
"What?" Wanda feigned innocence.
Cosmo smiled slyly before kissing her passionately. The two spend the next couple hours 'mending' their marriage.
