From the get-go I knew this was hard to hold
Like a crash the whole thing spun out of control
Oh, on a wire, we were dancing
Two kids, no consequences
Pull the trigger, without thinking
There's only one way down this road
Jack's P.O.V.
"Voldemort had one extra Horcrux nobody but him knew about. It was something from his childhood, but none of us know what it is. We have a strong feeling that it might be in the house, though. Once we spread out and search, then we will return to the meeting. If someone finds it, then we will destroy it and search for Voldemort. If we don't find it, then we will go out to places like Hogwarts and Diagon Alley to search while some people help hunt down Death Eaters." Moody explained. "Any questions?"
Hiro raised his hand. "How will we know it's a Horcrux?" He asked. Jack wondered what he got himself into when he started helping the Order. Now they were looking to destroy someone's soul who tried to make himself immortal. This was getting more intense.
"Harry can help with that." Moody replied as Harry suddenly looked more alert at the sudden attention he was getting. "The boy has a way of feeling if a part of Voldeormrt is around. Pretty creepy but helpful if you ask me."
Nico, who had been silent for a while spoke up. "And I can feel if something is alive, too. I have a way with death and dark stuff that's probably because of my dad."
Will could be heard snorting slightly at the comment. Of course Nico was an expert at that stuff- he was the son of the god of death, and even though Nico acted like it, he really wasn't that scary. Jack knew for a fact that on the outside, Nico seemed like a dark, angsty, grumpy teen, but in reality he was just trying to keep up his "son of Hdes" rep. Jack didn't blame the kid- he also had a reputation to uphold. Who else would recognize Jack Frost without his playful attitude and michevious ways?
Moody nodded as he processed the new information. "Ok then- everybody spread out and search the house. We have all day thanks to Hiro agreeing to change his plans. At six we can meet back up and see if we found anything. Now go" Moody instructed, walking out of the room into the dark dusty hall.
"I am so confused. Why are we here? Where's camp? What's going on?" Will asked, looking extremely puzzled. Jack felt that the wizards should have given more of an explantation to Will, who was very confused at the moment. Then again, they were kind of busy now that they had a new lead. Maybe they could find the Horcrux and be able to defeat Voldemort permanently.
"We're here to help the wizards defeat an evil wizard. Camp is back at Long Island. We are in England. Right now we are searching for part of Voldemort's soul so we can destroy it. That's what's keeping him from dying. We should send you back to camp, but you can help us search. The more helpers we have, the better. Also, we were wanting to get to speared more time with each other lately thi sis a good way to do that." Nico patiently explained. Jack noticed how Will relaxed the more Nico explained their situation.
"Ok. Got it" Will nodded. It was hard to argue with that.
Jack decided to interrupt their little conversation so that they could get started. He was kind of eager to find the Horcrux. "How about we start by checking the attic?"
"Sounds good" Hiro agreed. "I heard it has a whole bunch of old, dark stuff in it. But first I'm going to get Baymax. Maybe he can help us track that part of Voldemort. He can also sense living things too just like Nico and Harry."
The four teens (well not really Jack but in a way...) walked to Hiro's bedroom, carefully making their way up the icy steps. Hiro was reminded that it was Jacks fault that he fell earlier and out of the blue, Jack felt someone hit his back. He ignored it can just flew up the rest of the way, laughing at the others who were struggling to make it to the top. Nico almost fell on his face (his knigh tin shining armor Will was able to catch him before falling himself) and Hiro landed on his ass again. They both glared at Jack, who smiled while looking guilty. Then he quickly ran up the stairs leaving an angry Nico and Hiro behind him.
"Could someone help me up?" Hiro asked, still on his butt. It appears that he gave up trying. "Preferably someone who didn't cause this stupid mess"
"Got it." Nico said, taking Hiro's hand and pulling him up. Nico finally had the sense to warn the others who in the future would climb the stairs. "Anyone going up the stairs should be careful! It's icy!" Nico called downstairs. Jacks pranks and fun games could sometimes be really inconvenient. The boys could hear the voices of a few people calling up their thanks in advance.
Jack was starting to get bored of waiting for the others to reach the top of the three fights of icy stairs. "Hurry up, you three. It'll be six by the time you guys make it up here." Jack smirked. He kind of liked teasing others, especially when it mildly annoyed them.
Hiro was the first to make it to the top. Will was next and he cheered. "I lived!"
Nico was last, and Jack could tell by the look on his face that he wasn't too happy at the slow down. Even the railing was icy which didn't help their situation that much.
"Sorry?" Jack said, giving Nico a hopeful glance. No one really wanted Nico to be annoyed at them.
"You'd better be" Nico growled as he stomped to Hiro's room with his boyfriend trailing after him.
"Great. Now Death Boy's in a bad mood" Will mumbled.
"I heard that!" Nico called from the bedroom. "Also, who many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me Death Boy? I'm going to start calling you Sunshine Boy if you don't stop it!"
Hiro chuckled and went to his room to get Baymax, who was currently charging in his red box. Jack was always kind of fond of the peaceful and cheerful robot. It was defínetly an amazing creation by Tadashi. Unfortunately, Baymax's creator was met with an unfortunate fate, but was thankfully reborn into a new life. Jack was glad that Hiro at least got to see Tadashi one last time.
"I'm glad you're at full battery" Hiro said to Baymax, interrupting Jack's train of thought. "We have a lot of hours of searching to do."
"Ready?" Jack asked, twirling his staff around. These guys were taking their time and Jack just wanted to start searching already. He wondered what the Horcrux would look like and how they would destroy it.
"Yeah. Let's go" answered Hiro, walking out of the bedroom and to the end of the hall.
"So this is the entrance to the attic?" Will asked, glancing at the crooked wooden door. It gave off a kind of foreboding feeling to it. It was as if Jack could feel the darkness seeping through the door. He had this kind of feeling when they visited the Underworld, too.
"I guess" Nico replied. He pushed open the door and started climbing the stairs. Jack followed, then Hiro and Baymax, and then Will. The stairs creaked and gave off dust with every tentative step.
None of them noticed the door swing shut from behind them with a silent thud.
Nico's P.O.V.
Once they reached the top of the stairs, everyone started coughing and sneezing due to the excessive amount of dust in the room. There was only a single bare light bulb hanging from the ceiling in the middle fo the room, and boxes were piled up taller than Nico (even though that wasn't that tall.) Nico could have sworn he heard the scampering sound of mice or rats running for cover once they entered the room. It was obvious that no one had been in the attic for a very long time. At least 20 years, most defínetly more.
"Baymax, do a scan." Hiro said, glancing around the large attic. There were boxes stacked up everywhere along with other miscallenous items scattered on the floor, and it reminded Hiro slightly of the Room of Requirement. It would take a long time to go through all of the stuff. They would probably have to go get others to help them sort through the junk.
"Scan complete. I found thirty two living things up in the attic." Baymax replied, his clear calming voice cutting into the silence of the boys. Will slightly jumped at the sudden reply.
"Thirty two?" Jack asked, looking very confused. "I thought here only was one extra Horcrux, not twenty eight!"
Baymax was quick to answer Jack's question. "They include spiders, rats, mice, and multiple bugs. Would you like me to name each of the species?"
"No thanks. Please scan again for humans." Hiro sighed after face palming. At least this proved that the robot had extensive knowledge. Maybe a little of it was unnecessary, but you never know when you will need it. Tadashi was defínetly the kind of person to add extra features to Baymax like offering a sucker after a check up and having extensive knowledge of some things other than health. He was even able to download information and be able to use it for further reference Hiro learned when he was training Baymax to fight "Callahan".
"So this thing is a robot designed for healing?" Will asked while glancing at Baymax. This day was getting more and more interesting by the hour.
"Yeah. And don't question the armour." Nico answered before Hiro could reply.
"Wasn't planning on it"
Finally the robot completed his task. "Scan complete!" Baymax said, interrupting Nico and Will's conversation. "The weakest living human signal I got is coming from that gold box right there."
Sittign on top of a dusty wooden kitchen table was a small golden box. It looked innocent enough, but Nico was sure that it was the Horcrux. He could sense a dark aura being emitted from the box. If it was, then that would have been a quick mission.
Jack was the first to reach the box. He picked it up and turned it around, searching for a way to open it. Nico felt uneasy at the way Jack was handling such a possibly dangerous item. As Jack was searching for a way to open the box, Nico noticed how there very little indents and scratches on it. Whoever handled this box must have taken very special care to keep it safe. This further added on to the idea that there was something very important in the box.
"There definitely is a soul in there" Nico said, taking the box from Jack, who was about to shake it.
"Maybe we should open it with our wands" Hiro suggested while taking out his. "Alohamora" he clearly said, tapping the gold box. It clicked and slowly opened, revealing some sort of small hourglass cushioned in a silky cloth. It looked at if every single thing was deliberately put into place. The silky cloth was ruffled in a way that allowed for the miniature hourglass to rest perfectly in it, and the chain attached to the hourglass was looked around it in a perfect circle.
"What is that?" Will curiously asked as if the others would have the slightest idea.
"I have no idea" Jack stated with a puzzled look on his face. His face shone with curiosity and a bit of wariness. It reminded him of the capsules that held the teeth of the children Tooth would keep. In a way...
"We should be really careful with it. If the Horcrux breaks without being destroyed properly it wouldn't end well." warned Nico. He had at least a little knowledge of souls and dark magic, and he knew that there were certain things you had to do in order to destroy it completely. Unfortunately, Nico said that too late. When Jack was handing it to Will, one of them dropped it. It was almost in a mocking slow motion as the hourglass fell to the ground and immediately shattered upon impact, spreading glass and gold sand everywhere.
Everyone froze in shock and fear for a moment before Hiro started yelling. "What happened!" His eyes were wide, watching as the broken shards of glass slid across the dusty wooden floor.
"We're screwed" Nico muttered. This was not out good.
"He did it" Will and Jack blamed in unison while pointing at each other.
Nico could feel slight panic starting to crush his chest as he felt his heart rate speed up. "It doesn't matter who did it! We need to get out of here now" he instructed, motioning for the others to run. "Something really bad could happen, and we don't have a way to defend ourselves against dark magic at the moment!"
Suddenly the sand slowly rose up from the floor and started circling the five in a tornado of gold dust. Nico was immediately reminded of the Sand Man, and hoped that he was behind this instead of the cursed object that was now laying broken on the floor, emitting a dark mist. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
"Uh oh" Baymax commented, his head tilting up to watch the sand as it increased in height and volume.
"I can't see anything but sand and you guys!" Will exclaimed, trying to push the sand away. Nico's dense of dread was increasing along with his lack of vision due to the increase of the golden sand. There seemed to be some kind of force keeping the five stuck inside of the swirling sand tornado.
Then the gold sand formed itself into the shape of the Dark Mark. The skull opened its mouth and swallowed the five up in a swirl of golden dust.
