"Hey, Iruka...?"
"Yes?"
"What does it mean to love someone?"
He blushed slightly, but looked into my mismatched eyes nonetheless. He blushed further when he realized I wasn't joking. "Umm... Love is... complicated. It's… unconditional happiness. Not wanting to ever… not be with that person. Someone you can look at and brighten your day because without that person there really is no point in surviving each day. Being worried every time he's sent on a mission because it may be the last time you ever see him and there's nothing you can do to change it. Putting up with eight dogs worth of fur everywhere because he treats his summons like pets. Love is… just complicated."
He looked at me and I knew I wasn't hiding my smirk very well. And, really, who could when faced with a rant like that? A rant that was obviously about oneself? And he's just so adorable when he gets like this…. Though normally he's talking to himself when he does it.
He must to have realized he wasn't, in fact, talking to himself because he blushed brighter than I had ever seen, which is saying quite a lot, and looked down at the floor.
That wouldn't do at all. I stepped up to him, framed his face with my hands, and, forcing him to look up at me, placed a very chaste kiss on his incredibly soft lips. "Ruka…"
"Yeah?"
I captured a rogue strand of hair his hair, pushed it out of the way, and pulled him back for a deeper kiss. I pulled away and smiled. "I love you, too."
