Chapter 3 1/2 – Headaches and Phone calls
You know what the one problem with getting completely and utterly hung-over is?The morning after! That's what was going through Veronica's mind as she listened to her cell ring for the fifth time in the last forty-five minutes. Do people not have respect for us poor fools too stupid enough to drown our misery?
A look of confusion crossed her face as she thought this. First (real) drink I've had in over three months.
Thinking about why that is just made her even angrier at her soon-to-be ex, even if he had been even drunker than she had it was still no excuse for what had happened that night…or what had almost happened if not for one very angry Brooke Davis to the rescue with her old service pistol.
Got to love former cops who still keep up their training; Still owe that lady a spa trip…hmm wonder if I can get away with making it the same week as that 'reunion' The distain of that one word could probably be heard all the way back in NYC. She was not looking forward to going back to Neptune anytime soon, even after last night when Mac called just before Gail and her hit the hay.
"You know how you wanted me to let you know if a certain someone was going to be going and if said someone would be going alone or not?" Mac had asked with a bit of amused confusion in her voice the moment her friend answered the phone.
"Yeah…?" Had been Veronica's only reply already half dozing and not liking how this conversation was heading.
"Well good news, he will be there and is going alone."
"And the bad news…?"
"Carrie – sorry - Bonnie is apparently planning on showing a video of her and him to the masses at the reunion. No idea what said video will Intel, but I'm guessing it won't be good for him."
"But why would she do that?" came Veronica's half slurred question thanks to drinks and sleep finally taking over.
"Guess you haven't been watching TMZ lately huh? Apparently she had started a rumor that she and L- Him were going to be getting engaged at the reunion. Anyway Luke and Dick told him about it and when he confronted her and admitted to it gleefully from what Dick said. Sounded like L- HE confronted her at a party somewhere she was hoping for a bunch of witness and needless to say - she got it...You still with me?"
"Yeah; Surprising isn't it?"
"Kind of"
"Is there a point to this?" Hoping her pained misery just sounded like sleepiness. Her friends had of course learned long ago to NOT say his name, but talking about him without really talking about him, still hurt not as much as it use too, but still.
"Yeah sorry; SO in answer to her goodtime, he just started laughing and not in a good natured kind of way; Dick said it reminded him of High School, right before something big went down. Here is where it gets good; Your man, said the only way he would marry her was if she dyed her hair blonde, learned how to have a good time without taking an illegal subsistence and – here's the kicker – answer to BOBCAT and know how that nickname came to be!"
Mac really enjoyed the stunned silence that followed. "Dick said the one time he didn't have a camera is the one time he really needed one. Bonnie and Madison's faces alone had everyone laughing their asses off. And no L- HE wasn't drunk, only had two beers, and of course that night was the end of HIS and Bonnie's relationship. Although according to Dick they haven't been a couple for going on some eight months to a year. I have to say that is the funniest night I've had in years!"
"My, my you and one Dick Casabancas, are so chatty lately, anything I need to know?"
From there it had gone downhill with some crazy little theories involving Miss. Mackenzie and the one guy who will not leave her alone…for more than a week at a time anyway. It wasn't ten minutes later that the call ended and Veronica fell into a much needed slumber; with dreams of unicorns and what might have been going through her head.
On the sixth or was that seventh ring, Veronica finally answered her phone. Completely planning on giving that person a piece of her mind, she didn't even try and disguise her irritation.
"What!"
"Is that anyway to speak to one of your first friends in the big city as well as a favorite client?" came the lovely highly amused, but sounding very tired voice of one Blair Waldorf– Bass known to the world as Mrs. Chuck Bass, but to friends and family alike just -
"Blair!"
"You left without saying good bye. I had to find out from that Rachel person. This is how you treat your best bestest of friends? You missy are in so much trouble." Blair tried to sound serious and upbeat, she really did, but the tiredness and smile just wouldn't leave her voice.
"Blair, what's wrong? Are you okay? What about the baby? Was there a problem with the contract? Wha–"
"STOP;" Blair interrupted; she knew if she didn't this call would be longer then she could take at the moment. "I'm fine, the contracts were amazing, and everyone is happy. Even Chuck..."
Veronica could hear the smile in her friends' voice and could imagine it on Blair's face. There was just one problem. What about the baby?
After Blair and Chucks' son Henry was born they had tried to have another baby two years later, but nothing happened. The doctor's just said it would take time, after all with Henry there wasn't any problems and Blair hasn't had any more mischarges' after her first pregnancy. So for a time they just didn't think about it.
Well Chuck didn't think about it. He was enjoying being a husband and a father. Chuck once told Veronica he was just happy Blair was with him after all the crap he pulled in high school and first few years of their twenties. Veronica could understand that, at least she tried too.
When hearing about Blair and Chuck and the other stories from her East ender friends it reminded Veronica too much of her own high school years. However it was nice to hear other people didn't have the bubble gum and rainbows high school years.
Kinder Sprits; that's what Blair's first and best friend Serena Van Der Woodsen – Humphrey and her husband Dan calls them all. Veronica, Mac, Wallace, Jackie and Brooke would definitely have to agree with them.
So for a time the Basses just had their adorable son and enjoyed all they had. Then Serena and Dan got married; and when the newly Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey got back there was a surprise party and even more surprising news. There was to be another Bass and even better a new Humphrey.
The newest little Humphrey was born four months before, everyone knew the littlest Humphrey wasn't a honeymoon baby, but never said anything. At least not to anyone other than the proud parents, who would just laugh and say when something is right are you really going to argue about the timing? Veronica couldn't agree with them more on that one. She just sometimes wished her story had turned out as good as her new friends.
"Blair, what about the baby…?" Veronica reluctantly asked, if something had happened while she wasn't there Veronica knew she would never forgive herself. No matter what Blair, Serena or Chuck would say. Veronica knew Dan and the others wouldn't say anything because they would agree with the Basses and Serena, but they knew when to say out of it. Well everyone, but Brooke Davis. That's a whole other issue.
"Yeah…about my baby girl…"
Again Veronica could hear the smile, but did know why. Then it came to her. Chuck and Blair didn't want to know the sex of the baby until it was born….
"You're kidding?!" Veronica jumped up in bed, now fully wide awake. Blair's tired laughing and what could only be Chucks' as well only confirmed Veronica's deduction. She couldn't be happier for her friends. Just one thing…
"What happened to not being due for another three weeks?" asked Veronica with a huge smile on her own face.
"Sorry we so lied our as– butts off. If we didn't we knew you wouldn't leave. And you so needed to go back to Neptune! You can thank me later." And with that Mrs. Bass hung up on her dear California bounded friend.

A/N:2: If anyone can guess the book/movie Kinder Spirts came from I'll give you a little heads up on what's to come for any of your favorite character. Only one character though.
A/N 3: To find out the future status on this and my other stories I recommend you check out my profile. I seem to write better/more for supernatural type stories…
