Ignitus was staring out his window, futilely hoping for something to happen. Rain pounded on the ground outside, and he sighed, knowing he would be unable to go outside. More so on his mind, he wouldn't be able to visit the one girl who could turn a day like this into one worth the expended energy: Fionna. He smiled at the thought of the blonde, to him she was number one. But it was storming; he wouldn't be able to visit her until it wasn't.
Saddened, he looked around his small home, wondering what to do when a blue flame started to slowly form in front of him. Great, Ignitus thought with an annoyed sigh. Just what I need: My mom to come yell at me, and try to convince me I'm evil. Just great. Ignitus looked away as the blue flame grew a little bit and his mom's face appear on it. He remained turned away from it. When his mom called, it meant she was worked up about something. Normally it started with his mom telling him how awful he was, and how he was so destructive. Then he would yell back, saying he wasn't, that he wasn't the monster she thought he was.
"Ignitus!" his mom breathed. The Flame Prince was shocked. She wasn't yelling, for starters, and there was no anger or hatred in his mother's voice, instead, he heard relief and fear. He was still registering this when his mom rushed to explain. "The kingdom is being overrun by flame resistant soldiers under and unknown leader. We can't stop them, and even if we had flamed, the opponent's troops are far more skilled than ours. We are desperate for help! Please, I know this is unexpected, however -" To Ignitus's horror, she got no further. The blue flame vanished into a cloud of black smoke with a cracking pop.
