Authors Note: Please R and R! I love writing this. It is PURE FLUFF! So please if you want more serious fanfiction this is not for you... in this story we will see James and Lily fight their feelings for each other after being told they cannot be together... at least until the war is over but who knows when that will be?

Lily waited anxiously for her train, she always travelled the muggle way after a mission and tonight was no different. Except tonight she felt something she never thought she would ever feel again, and that was the sensation of James Potter's lips on hers. Running her finger lightly over where he had smudged her lip gloss she closed her eyes. She was half in love with him, half hating him right now for everything she was feeling. And what was worse he was probably home by now over three hundred miles away from her and there was nothing she could do or say that was going to make her feel better.

'The next train to arrive at platform 4 is the 19:37 to Portsmouth,' the announcer called

James Potter hadn't gone home instead he had apparated to Sirius Blacks apartment and dragged a begrudging Sirius out back into London. He headed for The Shaftesbury, a pub popular with the Theatre crowd just of Denmark Street in the West End. This had been the old haunts of many of the Hogwarts crowd when they came to muggle London because they felt they didn't have to pretend to be muggles, they could just be their plain old wizarding selves and fit in like a glove.

'Remind me again why you pulled me away from the home comforts of my date with my landlady?' Sirius moaned as James placed a pint in front of him.

'It's Lily, Sirius,'

'Is she okay?' Sirius said quickly 'she wasn't hurt was she? I know our little Snapdragon can get carried away with her Charms,'

'It wasn't that kind of Charm that was the problem,' James explained his voice sounded hollow and Sirius taking a sip of his drink closed his eyes suspecting that James had crossed the line

'What did you do?' Sirius said forming his words casually, slowly placing his glass on the beer mat.

'The exact thing we're not supposed to do,' James said running his fingers through his hair. 'I might've kissed her and-

'For the sake of Flamel, Prongs!' Sirius cried swallowing down the first sip of his pint 'I thought you guys were finally agreeing to the "not seeing each other… it will endanger you both" kinda thing,'

'I know Sirius, I know, but she isn't just 'some witch' is she?' James said frustration

'Lily will be reading so much into this right now Prongs, you are only hurting her longer you know that right?' Sirius paused waiting for James to respond, but when he didn't he continued 'you two cannot be together right now,'

James traced his fingers over the lines appearing over his face. The stress of not being able to be honest, completely honest with Lily was starting to take its toll. And not to mention the reason they couldn't be together. Voldemort.

'I didn't mean to hurt her, the last thing I ever wanted to do was hurt her.'

'Then end it, properly this time,' Sirius aid firmly his face was not smiling. He cared for both Lily and James, and above all wanted them kept alive. And if that meant being apart so be it, at least for now. And that is what Sirius thought James was misunderstanding, Albus had told them it would not be forever- just till the war was over. And for that Sirius couldn't understand why James and Lily couldn't just be.

'I can't tell her that, Sirius,' James said sounding half desperate.

'For the sake of your own life James- and Lily's'

'Have you never loved anyone Padfoot, and I don't mean just the casual thing you and EJ have- no offence. But ever truly felt real love?'

'What's real to you James might not necessarily be real to me,' Sirius flinched uncomfortably

'Well Lily- she is my real,'

Sirius was growing concerned, he knew James and Lily had at one time meant everything to each other and when they were at school (apart from Paige) James had never had another girlfriend other than Lily. And Sirius had to concede with James, Lily was his "real"

*FLASHBACK*

They had left Hogwarts three weeks before and the sunshine was filtering through the trees and it was the warmest day of the summer so far. Lily was pouring out glasses of pumpkin juice for her, James and Remus- Sirius hated the stuff and Lily filled his glass with apple juice. The little park just outside of Godrics Hollow was frequented by young families mostly, Lily couldn't help notice that she was the only young witch without a toddler or child teetering on a broomstick or hexing their poor parents.

'Drinks guys,' Lily called out.

Sirius dismounted his broom first, followed by James. Remus had been refereeing from the ground.

'Cheers Lily,' Sirius said taking the cup from Lily. 'Hey, you remembered,' he added taking a deep drink

'I don't forget things, Padfoot,'

'That's true, she still hasn't let that argument drop about the Appleby Arrows in what, five years Lils?' James reminded her settling down on the blanket next to her. He automatically snaked his hand around her waist despite the fact she was trying to set out the plates.

This was what Lily wanted, she desired normality. Even if it was just going to be for a few hours before they returned to their dangerous life as members of the Oder of the Phoenix.

'And I won't drop it ever, you know the Wasps cheated us out of that victory,' Lily said huffily, James just laughed at her. She relaxed into his hold after placing the last plate down.

'You're so adorable when you get all huffy,' and he wrapped his other arm around her waist turning her to face him he kissed her nose.

Sirius saw clearly how James and Lily were looking at each other. They couldn't wait to start their lives together and Sirius had in his pocket the snitch that James had carried around with him since the day he was made Quidditch Captain in his fifth year. His father Monty had given it him, it was the first snitch his father had caught when he had attended Hogwarts.

Sirius pulled it out of his pocket fiddling with it, Lily looked over to him surprised to see the small golden ball out of James' sight.

'Confusing me now,' Lily said staring at Sirius throwing the small ball up just within his reach ' I did wonder where that darn thing had gone,' she added with a quick glance at James.

'You could say I've been looking after it,' and Sirius quickly tossed it to James, he removed his hand swiftly from Lily's waist and caught it effortlessly.

'Padfoot,' Lily said curiously looking at him to James 'you're in on this,'

'Did you expect anything else?' Sirius said lightly, he had kept the snitch in his back robe pocket for weeks. (Even if he did nearly lose it once or twice… which James would never find out about)

'Lily, this doesn't come close to saying how I feel. You've always been a little problem to me. And if you will let me I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives solving you,'

'You think you can solve me James?'

'I fancy giving it a try, Miss Evans,' James said, taking her hands he pulled them close to his chest. 'I don't fancy being your equal Lily because in so many ways you are far better than me. I want to be your best friend, I never want to see you cry ever. I want to be your opposite number'

'Aren't you supposed to be asking me a question, Mr Potter?' Lily said amusedly pretending to be impatient but her eyes were full of goddess own happy tears. He pressed his hands around hers' and placed them across his heart.

'Impatient as always my little Snapdragon,' James sighed toying with the snitch in his hand 'will you be my Forever and Always?' he paused as if he was running out of words to say and then added.

'Will you agree to be my wife?'

Lily disentangled her hands from his and moved herself forward her green eyes tearing up her nose nudging his she pressed her lips against him.

'I take that as a yes,' he said breathlessly when they broke apart.

'James Potter, how could you dream that I would say anything else,' and they kissed again as if the rest of the world wasn't there.

END OF FLASHBACK

Ordering their second round James just wanted it all to be over once and for all. Lily was right, his willpower was crap. When he was around her she did something no one else did to him, it was like they were just one person and she dominated his waking, sleeping and unconscious moments. When her hands slipped inside his gloves to keep warm he couldn't help but feel a compulsion to kiss her. Her movements were so intimate with him. She would constantly look at him with "that look", the one she only ever reserved for him when she was affronted or the other look, the look she had been giving him all afternoon since they had left Dumbledore's' office together.

'Sirius what do I do?'

'You stay away from her James; I'll imprison you myself.' Sirius said his tone was cross and James knew Sirius' advice was coming from the best place. He had always supported him and Lily through everything but this time he seemed to be siding with Dumbledore. Not something James was accustomed too, Sirius had never conformed to any rules laid out by Albus Dumbledore at school or otherwise afterwards.

'Siding with Albus, Padfoot, didn't think I'd see the day,' James said moodily

'If it protects you and Lily from Voldemort then I'm all for it,' Sirius said emotionally 'Prongs,' Sirius said reproachfully

'Padfoot?'

'James. This isn't Hogwarts, this is the real world. And out here you and Lily- for now' he emphasised. 'Cannot carry on,'

'And what if I had found a bit of magic that would solve everything?' James said seriously
