Ever since Rabastan Lestrange had asked for a kiss in exchange for her freedom when Death Eater's attacked her home, Hermione had run into him on nearly every mission she had gone on.
At first it just seemed as a coincidence as he was often with his brother, or Bellatrix, but as time went by he began to show up at places the Order knew were abandoned.
"How do you know where to find me?" she asked one day.
"Snape gave us a list of all the places he thought the Order would check out. Why do you want me to stop?"
"No, I rather like talking to you," Hermione said blushing slightly.
"Just the talking?" Rabastan smirked as he closed the gap between them.
"I like the kisses too," she said breathlessly.
He leant down and kissed her deeply, and Hermione revelled in the feeling of his lips on hers.
Rabastan was an enigma and Hermione enjoyed trying to work him out, but at the same time she knew that she shouldn't let herself get too involved with him. He was after all partially responsible for the torture of her Neville's parents. Every time she saw her friend Hermione felt sick with guilt, but all that went away when she saw him waiting for her.
After spending many hours with Rabastan either talking or kissing, Hermione found that she longed for his company many times when they were apart.
The next time she met him was in a small cottage in the Scottish Highlands that she had already searched. Hermione knew that very few people in the Order knew that it existed so they should be safe.
After a while Hermione looked at her watch and realised that she should be heading back.
"I wish I didn't have to go back. I wish I could just stay here with you," she sighed.
"I know the feeling, love, but if we never went back then they would search for us, and if they found us we would be in a lot of trouble. We will never be accepted by either side," Rabastan reminded her gently.
That was the main issue about their relationship; it had to be kept secret as it was forbidden. They weren't able to tell their friends or family because it would have devastating consequences. Voldemort would most likely torture and kill her whilst forcing Rabastan to watch, and she would be shunned by the Order losing the only friends and family she has.
"I love you. I know I'm not supposed to, but I do," she said looking into his eyes.
"I love you too," he murmured.
It was getting harder and harder to leave him, and one day Hermione thought that she might not do. Even if it meant that she had to leave her whole life behind it would be worth it if she had Rabastan by her side.
