Chapter 3
Pregnancy and Fake Alibis
Lisanna turned to look at Lucy. "You didn't have to say it so loudly." She blushed. Being pregnant meant that she and Earthland famous Natsu Dragoneel had… Lisanna closed her eyes and shook her head to rid herself of the thought.
"Mrs. Dragoneel, there is nothing to be embarrassed about!" the doctor reassured as she sat down next to the white haired mage. "Pregnancy is a wonderful thing! I remember when I was pregnant with my first child!" She gave a warm smile, thinking of the memory. "Now, I have to ask you some questions. Please answer them to the best of your ability."
Questions? Oh Mavis, what kind of questions were they going to ask? Lisanna covered her face with her hands in fear. What if they asked her about IT? Her lower lip quivered; this was all so embarrassing! Lisanna felt warm hands lay atop her shoulders. She looked up to see Lucy's comforting smile.
"Lisanna, Dr. Lucas took the time out of her lunch break to see you." Lucy's face became one of a mother who was scolding a young child. "I know this is a bit embarrassing to talk about, but wouldn't it be rude to waste Dr. Lucas's time? Why if you weren't here right now, she would be having her lunch."
Embarrassed, not only by the concept of her visit, but also by her actions, Lisanna hung her head low and murmured a quiet apology. She heard Dr. Lucas take a deep breath, as if she were waiting for the atmosphere to recover to a more pleasant state.
"Does your magic supply seem low?" The doctor questioned slowly and sweetly.
"Um…" she hadn't been on any quests lately. The last one she went on was about a month ago. She had seemed to run out of magic quickly but had not thought much of it. "A little, I guess."
"Most mages don't know it, but when you're pregnant; most of your magic often goes to the baby to help it develop. That is why some children of mages often have magic similar to their mothers." She scribbled some things down on her note pad. "How active have you been?" She asked.
"WHAT?!" Lisanna shrieked feeling her face become hot. She couldn't say that out loud! That was way too personal. Pleading eyes turned to Lucy. Lisanna desperately did not want to answer that question.
After a moment of silence Dr. Lucas seemed to have picked up Lisanna's frantic mood, "Okay, let's skip that question then."
Lisanna opened her mouth and let out the breath she didn't know she had been holding.
" When was your last period?" A slightly easier question.
"That, I don't know." Lisanna said quickly,
"Oh, well." She gave a cup to Lisanna, "Why don't you give us a sample and then wait in here. It may take a while. About an hour or so."
Lisanna nodded, took the cup and went to the restroom.
…
"Say, Lucy?" Lisanna whispered quietly, her mind zooming with all the possible outcomes that would come with her results
Lucy seemed slightly distracted for her response came delayed, "Yeah?" It had to be because of Natsu; the two of them were practically brother and sister, no family left except the guild.
"What do you think Natsu will say if he figures out that I'm pregnant? Well, if I'm pregnant that is."
Lucy thought for a moment. She wasn't quite sure what Natsu's problem was, no one did. She wished she knew what caused his memory loss. But the way that Lisanna said he had been reacting to her, if he was ever told that she was pregnant, he would probably fly through the roof. "I'm not quite sure, but I know that he won't be pleased…"
"Oh, Lucy, what am I to do?" Lisanna was holding back tears. The whole Natsu situation had left her broken hearted. "I just want to get out of here."
She looked at the clock. It had almost been an hour. She should know the results of the test soon.
At that moment, the door opened and the doctor entered. She smiled. "Congratulations!"
Lisanna gulped. "I-I'm pregnant?"
The doctor nodded excitedly. "You need to come back in about a month to make sure the baby is developing okay. Oh, and before you leave, we need to get a blood sample to see how high your magic level is. That will tell us how many months along you are."
…
"Oh, Erza!" Lisanna sobbed while being consoled by the red haired mage. "3 months! What am I to do if he finds out?"
"If who finds out?" Natsu was behind them, which was to be expected, this was their apartment. "Your husband?"
Lisanna nodded. He looked kinder than he had earlier that morning. What had Erza done to him while she was gone? Don't underestimate the power of Erza Fernandez.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Natsu asked.
"You can in a bit." Erza said. "Lis and I need to talk privately for a second." She guided Lisanna into the bathroom and locked the door. "So tell me everything!"
…
"Wow." Erza said. "Where is Lucy?"
"She went to go visit Ralph." Lisanna shuddered. "The guy makes me sick! I don't see at all how she loves him!"
"And you said 3 months, right?" questioned Erza. "You have about a month before you start showing too much. Maybe by then, we will have Natsu's memory fixed."
"Say," Lisanna said, "What did you do to Natsu to make me be nice to me?"
"I won't tell my secrets." Erza put a finger to her lips. "All I will say is that right now, he thinks that you are an old childhood friend and that you had come back to join Fairy Tail, and I had dared you to do what you did this morning to surprise him."
"Oh." Was all Lisanna said. "What about quests? I'm sure he will want to go on some with me, but I can't since I'm pregnant."
"Ah, I already took care of that problem. You just got over a life threatening illness and your magic level is low so you can't go on quests for a while."
"And they are all total lies Erza!"
"So? It will get you by for the moment."
"Lisanna?" Natsu knocked on the door. "Are you done yet? I'm hungry and Erza said you would make us dinner!"
"Erza…" Lisanna glared at her friend.
"What can I say, Lis? He loves your horrible cooking!" Erza replied as she dodged Lisanna's fist.
"It's so like Natsu to be thinking of food." Lisanna thought aloud. She opened the door and headed toward the kitchen.
Natsu's hand caught her wrist. "But not before you tell me what's going on. You seem very distressed. Did something happen with your husband?"
"Well, you, erm, could say that." Lisanna said.
He brought her into their bedroom, sat down on the bed, and patted his hand on the sheets next to him, motioning for her to sit next to him. "I know I haven't been a very good friend, I mean, I didn't recognize you at all when I saw you and I don't have any memories of you what so ever. Starting now, I want to become a better friend and help you with your problems."
Lisanna, holding back tears reached out and hugged him tightly. "Natsu…"
He pulled back. "Uh, erm, Lisanna, what are you doing?"
Lisanna realized what she was doing and jumped away from Natsu. "Oh, Um, sorry."
"Well, how about we forget about that and you tell me what's eating you."
Lisanna took a deep breath. What was she going to tell him. "well, my husband…" She looked at the floor. She couldn't lie to Natsu. It wasn't in her nature. "He doesn't seem to remember me."
So yeah… Lisanna is pregnant. And I wonder what Erza did. She seems to have the ability to bend Natsu to her will. After all, she is one of the only people that Natsu is afraid of.
