Vigilante Chapter 3 'Not Everything Ends With Happiness'

The door opened to reveal Dr. Wolf as she entered the room.
"Morning Lexi, how are you feeling today" she said in a happy tone.
Lexi was looking out of the window, admiring the view, "Still feeling a little sore but overall good."
Dr. Wolf clapped her hands in happiness, "Great, now shall we continue your exercises?"
Lexi groaned, as she didn't like to move.
"Ah come on, you should get some exercise so you could heal much better"
"That's true but I don't want to" Lexi didn't like the therapy too much.
Dr. Wolf placed her hands on her hips and sighed, "It's true that you just woke up from a coma and your injuries were among the worst but you should try to exercise to regain your strength."
"I know but it just feels hopeless, there's a good chance that I may never walk again"
"True" Dr. Wolf said to the young bunny, "but you still need to replace the wrappings and see if the wounds are healing properly."
"Nurses" Dr. Wolf said out and the door opened up, revealing 2 nurses with more supplies to replace the dressing.
Lexi relaxed as the nurses removed the bandages and when the wrappings were off, she examined the wounds; thanks to her uniform, she didn't get too many cuts but a few deep ones were all over her arms, her light blonde fur was messy in color because of the blood that escaped by the wounds.
The nurses were extremely careful not trying to cause much pain. So they treated the wounds with remedies that would accelerate the healing process.
When they were done, they moved on to another limb and did the same process until they were done.
Lexi watched as they did so, she was shocked to see the injuries she received from that mission.
"Ok, on July 28, one week after they woke up from their comas, the Loonatics were showing signs of accelerated healing capabilities." Dr. Wolf said as she written every word down for documents.
"How long do we have to stay?" Lexi said as the nurses got up and left the room.
"There's good news and bad news"
"Let's hear the good first"
Dr. Wolf smiled, "The good news is that you and the entire team are showing accelerating healing skills so you will leave before the recommended time. You will be released in one week."
"The bad?"
"Right, even with your healing, you will need to be in some braces for a few months. So other words, you can't participate in any crime fighting until we give the ok."
"Alright" Lexi moved her arms around and noticed that the wrappings weren't tight this time, "did they do anything to the wrappings, it feels loose?"
"No worries, they just put it on looser because we're gonna help you with moving your arms today"
"Oh joy…" Lexi knew that she wasn't going to stop.
The doctor pressed the button to adjust her bed and when she was properly elevated, she grabbed one arm and asked her to move it, "Ok, try to move you fingers first."
Lexi did so and with little struggle, she could move them.
"Ok, what should I do next Doctor?"
"Oh, you can call me May or by my nickname 'Snow'"
"Why are you called Snow?"
May thought about it and decided to tell her, "It's what a few of my friends and I thought about to call each other by codenames for fun and its to show what we really are. The reason I'm called 'Snow' is because of my fur color and my personality"
"Cool, is it ok to introduce me to them?" Lexi wondered about her and her friends.
"I will, they all live in Bel Air. Once you leave the hospital and want to visit, I will introduce you to them."
"That's great, thanks" Lexi smiled as she started to move her right arm much better.
"Good, your left arm is a little problem for now because of the multiple fractures but overall it will help up." She examined the her legs, "Try to move you left foot."
Lexi did so and she has full control, her foot started to twitch but started to move by command.
"Good work so far. Try to move the entire leg"
Lexi went through a few attempts but her leg did the same and sooner she could move it.
"The same goes for you other leg, but thanks to our nurses, they placed a metal brace in the bandages so you could be able to somewhat move around if you have to walk."
"Would it be in the way?"
"No. It's designed to bend with your leg so whenever you stand up, it will strengthen your leg and aid you." She moved over to her arm, "The arm, it has a different brace so it will keep it from being in the way. Think of it being a smaller version of the splint but it's not too big to where a girl could wear almost any outfit and it won't be in the way."
"Is this a prototype" Lexi never heard of this before.
"Luckily it was just passed the patent, our friendly engineers designed this so we could say goodbye to old technology."
After a few tips and tricks on how to use them, it was about lunchtime for everyone.
"Ok it's almost lunch so let me help you into your wheelchair"
"Ok" Lexi tried to get up but her legs weren't ready yet to support her weight so May helped her into the chair and pushed her out of the room and into a special area where the Loonatics could chat and eat without any intrusion.
Thinking about it, she's glad that she could chat with the guys and tell them the good news.
"Here it is" they were a few floors higher than the cafeteria but it was nice and cozy for someone to get away from a large crowd.
The doors opened and the area was nice, a large dining table sat in the middle where her friends sat at, already eating.
"Hi guys" Lexi called out to them.
Each of them said hi back, well…Duck sort of said it, behind the sarcasm.
Lexi had a small device to control the chair by a few button pushes.
May decided to leave them alone as they wanted to be away from everyone, so she opened the door, walked out and shut the door.
Lexi waited until she couldn't hear footsteps and when it stopped, she looked at the guys and was excited to tell them the good news, "Hey guys did you hear?"
All of the guys stopped what they were doing and listened in on what she had to say.
"From what Dr. Wolf said, we'll be able to leave next week because of our rapid healing."
Even though the rest of the team were all injured, they still showed that they were happy for the news.
"Really?" The coyote asked as the bunny nodded in return, "That's great." Tech was thrilled, his injures included a dislocated back and many broken bones that starts from the neck and downward (would name the bones but I have no idea on anything medical).
Luckily he was showing signs of his molecular regeneration starting to come back, so when its back; he will be able to leave anytime. Despite that, he decided to wait on his team then he'll leave.
He still has some braces to help him with moving around, until his powers come back.
"If I'm correct, my best bet would be sometime Friday" She didn't hear exactly but she was overwhelmed with joy, besides, they were only here for a week and they were feeling really bored.
"Finally, we get to leave-Ow… I really need to get out of these stupid things," Duck was complaining (*sigh*…again). He did sustain many broken bones in his arms and legs but some more in his rib cage so he could be quieter. He also received some braces to help him be more mobile but he doesn't like the pain he's feeling.
"That-is-awesome-to-hear. Only-a-little-bit-until-we-get-to-leave, by-the-way, what-day-is-it? It-feels-like-a-Tuesday-but-it-could-be-a-Monday-or-Wednesday. It-also-sucks-with-these-casts,-it-feels-so-restricting-" Rev was saying in his 'normal' voice, the usual hyper level. He stopped because Tech was beside him and luckily he had his good arm to reach over and clamped his beak, so they can eat in peace.
Rev's injuries were similar to Duck's; mainly his legs suffered the worst because the enemy knew that he mainly runs. His arms were ok but a little weak because of disuse and waking from a coma.
"Wednesday, spaghetti" Slam said as he gobbled up his portions of food and luckily the nurses prepared for this and served for at least 20 people, 4 for the rest of the Loonatics and hopefully satisfy the devil.
Slam's injuries were almost as worse as Lexi's but he broke his spine but luckily it's showing signs of healing and he could move his legs. His entire body suffered when he hit the ground, enough that he was close to either be a vegetable or dead.
Lexi was still showing her excitement because her team was ok, despite the fact that they all suffered internal damaged but it looks like they were ok, nothing extreme.
While they were eating, they heard the door opening, so they all stopped and look to see who's coming in, they were surprised to see who it was.
"Howdy everyone" Andrea said with her western accent as she and the others were checking on their team. They weren't wearing their uniforms as they were still on vacation.
Lexi smiled, as she was glad to see them again, "Hey guys."
"Hey, why are you guys here, the sign said, no interruptions" Duck said as he ate his food.
Miranda walked up to him, glaring at him for that comment.
Duck gulped, as he knew she would hurt him.
"What was that?" She hit him on the arm and instantly he felt the pain.
The rest of the Loonatics laughed to see his girlfriend beat Duck.
They decided to chat for a while and a particular subject was brought up.
"So… when you all leave, do you plan to check on the grave?" Skye asked but she instantly regretted saying that.
Lexi sort-of lost her happy mood and went into a depression once she was reminded anything related to Ace, the mission, anything that's close to the subject.
"Sorry for asking right away"
Lexi quickly said, "No, it's not your fault. …It's just that… I can't believe what happened, a month later and look at us, fallen heroes."
"I guess that we should be sorry as well, we weren't there when you needed us"
"At least you guys were still able to fight crime"
"Nope, once we found out about your injuries, Zadavia quickly let us all take a vacation until you guys were able enough to return. She said that the police will handle the rest of the crime until then" Holly said, as she was the first to find out.
"Really?" Tech was obviously surprised by this, "How would the police handle the super-powered villains"
Quinn shrugged towards the coyote, "She didn't give a solid reason on that part, we asked but all she told us was that she sent her 'agents' out to fight them" she placed air quotes over 'agents' as she was emphasizing.
"Her agents?" Lexi had no idea about this.
"Yeah, she told us to watch out for them, they don't 'Play well with others', we don't know why, we could help them out." Skye said, as she felt confident to find them.
"I agree, we can, how you would say, assist them very well" Fleur said as she hugged Pierre very closely as they were married for a year. Pierre proposed on their anniversary and they celebrated during the 4th year anniversary with their best friends and comrades.
"Ugh, now we're getting a lovey dovey scene, get a room, yipe" Duck quickly tried to get away from Miranda but she, again, punched him so he could shut up.
Everyone laughed at the Duck again; he deserved that.
After a few more moments of chatting, the doctors and nurses checked on them for anything and after they left, the Loonatics stayed in that room and hung out like they used to but Lexi sort of felt lonely, this was the first time that their leader wasn't there.
She drove the wheelchair towards an open window and gazed out, wondering what's gonna happen.
"Miss him Madame?" Lexi heard a voice called out to her, she looked back to see Pierre.
"Yeah, when I was treating his wound, he said that he always loved me, the times we broke up was to protect me" she started to tear up as she remembered everything, "He 'died' protecting me, why would he do that?" She choked on that word, she wanted to avoid it but she had to.
"Hmmmm" Pierre thought about it decided to tell what his exact thoughts were, "Let's see… it's exactly how I would protect my Beautiful Fleur, I would, how you would say, throw myself in front of a bullet to do so. That sacrifice is one of the strongest forms of love someone could do for the person they love."
Lexi looked forward and remembered that event; she was pushed out of the way so Mat couldn't hurt her.
After replaying that memory and many others where Ace did anything for her, she realized that he did it out of love.
She looked back at Pierre, "Thanks."
"Pas De Problème" Pierre felt proud to offer his knowledge for miss Lexi, he decided to give her some alone time and told the others the same.
The hours went by and the visitors were escorted out and the Loonatics went back to bed.
Dr. Williams decided to push Lexi back to her room but Lexi had a good at him, a large muscular blonde wolf with white fur underneath and he has bright amber eyes. He kept his hair slicked back so he could look like a doctor.
Once they entered the room, he helped her up from the chair and helped her again to get back in bed.
"Thanks" Lexi said as she tried to move her arms to get the bed sheets.
"Пожалуйста, Miss Lexi" he said in his Russian accent as he pulled the covers for her.
Lexi had a questioning look on her face, as she didn't know what he said.
George realized what he said and rubbed the back of his head, "My apologizes, I'm originally from Russia before I moved here with many of my friends after we all had successful careers."
"Ah ok…" Lexi decided to ask him something, "Hey Dr. Williams, can I ask you something?"
The doctor smiled, "Sure, and you could call me either George or 'Boulder'."
"Ok, but when and where did Ace's funeral take place?"
George thought back and said, "He was buried in the main cemetery in Los Angeles where he was born and he was buried with his parents, or so I heard so far but hey what could I say, the media somehow knows all" he said as he acted out the 'Media knows all' to make the bunny laugh slightly.
George decided to let the bunny sleep, so he turned out the lights and walked out.
He closed the door and heard someone say, "How did it go?"
He turned behind and seen May, he smiled as he said, "It went great, I can see why you like her, and she shows potential."
"Really? So far we need to test each of them, to see if they could solve our little secret."
George laughed as no one could solve their mystery, "That's a good one, but you're on. She has the capabilities but we can't say anything"
May smiled as she researched the rest of the Loonatics, "Correct but which ones should we watch out for?"
George thought about it and knew a few, "There's Skye, she's one of the original members but she has military experience so she could be a threat."
May also thought about that, "Then there's Holly, she's a quick learner and a rare one indeed, a lighting user."
"So your sister will have another adversary?"
May nodded, "She will have some fun with her but what about Fleur, Andrea, Quinn, Miranda, Hunter, Bridgett, Pierre, and Michelle?"
"They could be a trouble" George rubbed his chin as he thought about it, "But if they do interfere, then make some adjustments and our plan will work."
"Agreed" They walked into an elevator so they can continue their jobs as doctors in the Acme Trauma Center 1.
Time skip - 1 week
"unmm" Lexi started to wake up from her sleep.
She opened her eyes to see the rising sun so she knew that it was still early morning. She looked over to the clock next to her and found out that it was 6:00am.
'It's too early' she closed her eyes and took a nap for a few moments until she realized that this was the day she and the others could leave the hospital.
'Wait…today's the day' she happily woke up and she pulled the covers off. Thanks to the help from the staff, she and the rest of her team could be able to walk a lot, thanks to the braces.
She still felt stiff by the braces but this was a good compromise or otherwise she had to be pushed around, stuck in a wheelchair.
She pulled out the outfit that Skye picked out for her, a pink shirt with a white jacket blazer with some blue jeans that could hug her legs but enough room for the braces. She also have some converses so it will be comfy instead of some high heels that Skye originally thought of.
Once she was done, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in" Lexi said as she sat down onto the bed.
The person who entered was May, she came by to have Lexi sign some documents before she could leave.
Lexi grabbed a pen and signed the papers.
"Ok, it looks like you're done."
"Thanks for everything May"
"Oh and before I forget, here's my number for anything." May gave her number for anything.
"Thanks"
"I'll go and have the rest of the Loonatics sign these papers as well, and if you'll excuse me" she walked to the door and exited the room.
Once the door closed, Lexi lay back onto the bed and thought about what Tech was talking about, he plans to make a machine to further the healing process so they will be back in action in a matter of seconds.
She was a little bit jealous but she was happy to hear that Tech's molecular regeneration came back 2 days ago and his injuries were gone almost instantly. He had a chance to leave the hospital but he declined because he made the plans to make the machine.
Luckily, he told the entire hospital staff about his plan and when its ready, he will release the data needed so the doctors could utilize his discovery.
When it was almost time to go, she left her room and met up with the guys.
Once the elevator doors opened, she saw that they were all ready, waiting for her.
"Pff, Fashionably late as usual" Duck crossed his arms and looked away, acting like he usually do everyday.
"Nice to see you to" Lexi happily said to him and the rest, "who's picking us up?"
"Not sure, but Zadavia made the arrangements. She did say to watch out for a person with a sign with the Loonatics' name on it" Tech said as he spotted a white Limousine driving up to the hospital.
The white limo stopped and exited an older looking man in a black suit and shiny black shoes with hair short grey hair all slicked back with hair gel. He could be in his fifties or sixties but he doesn't look feeble either.
He held a sign and Tech knew that this was the man, "This is him", and he walked out of the hospital to greet the man.
Lexi was the last to exit the hospital as she waved goodbye to the staff; they were really nice.
The man went over to the back door and opened it for them, "Good morning Loonatics, my name is Anthony, your Chauffeur."
"Nice to meet you," Tech decided to help his team out because they have a harder time getting into a vehicle.
Tech looked at Lexi first and said, "Ladies first."
Duck huffed as Lexi was the first, he was annoyed that he wasn't first.
The rest all went into the limo, surprisingly large enough to have Slam enter it easily.
Tech was the last to enter because he was free from any injuries.
Anthony quickly entered the vehicle and asked them, "Is there anywhere else you may want to go besides your tower?"
Lexi decided to speak first, "Yeah, we need to go to the cemetery."
The driver didn't expect this; an odd request but he didn't question it, "Ok ma'am."
He started the limo and drove off to the cemetery.
While on the way, Slam looked out of the window and liked that it was a clear day today, no clouds in the forecast.
After a while as they were getting closer to the cemetery, the clouds started to gather and the forecast now called for chances of rain.
"Hmmm, this is odd. They said it was going to be clear for a long time?"
Lexi somehow knew that this was sign, normally clouds don't appear right away.
The limo drove through the cemetery gates and the clouds look like it will rain anytime soon, so the Loonatics had to say their final goodbyes and leave.
They exited the limo and towards lone graves that no other graves were near them.
They examined the 2 and it said Tom Bunny and Ella Bunny, but no other info was given to these graves but there was a grave next to Ella's. It had the Loonatics symbol on the top portion, a circle with an upside down triangle. His name was written as Avery 'Ace' Bunny, and it also said, 'The leader of the Loonatics and a great friend'. It didn't show his birthday or death, just the symbol, name and description.
The Loonatics were all examining the gravestone, but they were all feeling all sort of emotions that they couldn't explain right now.
Lexi walked up to the grave and bowed her head down, "I'm so sorry Ace" she stopped as she felt a raindrop hit her, she wiped it away and continued, "You've helped us through everything, even though the situation was dire, you never lost your way and that's what helped us finish the mission. Without you, I don't know how it'll be but all I've got to say is I still love you and this is goodbye."
Tech decided to say his goodbye next, "Ace, you helped me when I didn't know what to do with my life. You showed me that I had this talent when we joined as a team, so all I can say…" he stopped as he choked on the words, "I guess this is it, goodbye Ace, and thanks for being our leader and best friend."
Rev walked over to the grave after Tech, "Well-this-is-my-first-time-ever-saying-a-goodbye. I-never-knew-anyone-who-suddenly-died-but-all-I-can-say-that-it-sucks. You-were-one-of-my-closest-friends-but-I'm-sorry-to-say-this…Goodbye."
He walked away with tears forming and Duck was next.
"I guess that… I'm sorry for, you know, …everything. You knew that the way I usually act was the way in which I act towards the people I trust." he turned away from the stone but he continued, "I shouldn't complain too much about being leader, the only reason why I did that because I was mainly jealous of you but it's never going to be the same again," he clenched his fists tightly as he already knew that tears were going down his face, "…Goodbye Ace."
Slam was the last one, as he walked up to the grave, he wanted to speak like a normal person.
"It's not going to be that same without you Ace, gonna miss you leader" This was the first time that Slam tried his best to speak without any quirks that a devil will say.
Once Slam got up, the rain started to pour and they had to leave.
They moved at a quick pace before the downpour started and luckily they got into the limo before they got soaked.
Anthony put the limo into drive and drove the team back to HQ.
Lexi decided to check on the grave one more time and something caught her by surprise, there was another person there and it was in front of the 3 graves.
She couldn't tell who it was because it was wearing a long duster style coat and the hood was up. She looked closer at it and wondered if this person was the one who saved them from Devastator.
"If they knew what really happened… than they will be looking for you" the person said in a robotic voice that didn't sound human. It was speaking with different frequencies so it's hard to know who said it.
"Who is this person…" Lexi said out loud so the others will hear.
"What person?" Tech said as he looked back and seen that person, "what the…"
"You see it to" Lexi asked the coyote.
"Yeah but who is it?"
"I don't know but whoever it is, it knows what happened to Ace" Lexi remembered that Ace's casket was empty because he was MIA. Whoever this person was had some kind of connection to him.
Lexi sat there and thought of some plans to find this person as the limo drove to their HQ.
She stopped thinking as the driver stopped. She looked around and didn't realize that they're already at HQ.
Tech got out of the limo and helped everyone out.
Lexi waved towards Anthony, "Thanks for the ride."
Anthony bowed down, "You're welcome" he got back into the limo and drove out of the underground parking space.
"Ready?" Tech said as he already pressed the elevator button and in a few minutes, the doors opened and they all walked in. The coyote pressed the 134th button and the elevator doors closed and went up through each floor and reach its destination in a few minutes.
The doors opened to she the rest of the Loonatics waiting for them. They had the place all cleaned up; thanks to Skye and Fleur for making the others do the cleaning.
"Good to see you guys out of the hospital" Holly said as she kissed Tech.
The guy's girlfriends all decided to bring them to their rooms so they can rest up.
Quinn helped Lexi but she heard Tech say, "I'll start right now on the invention in the mean time, I'll be ready sometime tomorrow."
Lexi didn't say anything but held up a thumb's up.
The doors to Lexi's room opened as she walked in.
Quinn stayed out because she had something to do, "I'll go help Tech with that machine, call if you need anything."
"Ok, thanks Quinn"
Quinn nodded as the doors closed.
Lexi decided to sit on her bed and think about that person. Whenever it involved Ace, this person or possibly people showed up and the media didn't say anything about it. Whatever it is, these people might have the answers she wants.
'The only problem will be, is to capture one of them she knew that they must be experts by how they operate.
Despite all of the evidence presented, Ace should've died but no one could locate his body. There's more evidence as the cloaked person started to show. So Ace might be alive, Lexi knew that was impossible but she had a feeling that this isn't the last time she would see him.
Lexi lay down onto her bed as she planned but she fell asleep quickly.
-Knock-knock-
"Come in" a man voice said out as he was working on some paperwork.
The double metal doors opened to reveal 2 officers that the man knew, the male was medium build Caucasian with short black hair and blue eyes, the female was his older sister, a Caucasian with blonde hair tied back in a pony tail and blue eyes. The female was injured from gunshot wounds in the stomach, arm and leg, so she was limping around.
"Ah Andrew and Andrea, how did it go for you?" the man said as he placed the paperwork back into the files.
"Not good, it look liked 'they' interfered" Andrea said as she sat down and gave files of what she found.
"Really?" He chuckled as he read the report while Andrew sat down beside his sis, and the man slammed his fist onto the desk, "That was a simple mission, even the police's best trained Major and Captain could achieve?"
Andrew decided to apologize for what they did wrong, "We're sorry sir, but next time we'll send more of our 'comrades' after them. It was good thing that I placed the charges so the Loonatics couldn't get away."
The man smiled to see determination, "That's enough major, we don't need to send any more pawns for now, we only need to wait and see what's about to happen to the Loonatics. If 'they' appeared, then there's more that we may need to know."
"What's you plan, Commander?" Andrea said as she was looking at her commanding office, the highest-ranking official that leads both police and military forces, Joseph Blake. He's a tall (6ft/183cm) heavily built Caucasian male with light brown hair cut short. He does have a mustache but kept clean for many reasons.
Blake looked at the major, "Andrew Rivers, you plan by using the 'other' members of the armed forces to find the evidence of 'them' right away." The 'other' members were the anthro population, they were treated the poorest by being considered as animals.
Andrew nodded as he agreed, "Yes sir."
Blake looked at the Captain, "Andrea Rivers, your new goal is to find a good enough reason to fake a crime against the Loonatics. Once we have that, we will arrest them and if they resist, kill them."
Andrea smiled, as she liked this plan.
Blake wondered how's the Loonatics been doing, "Any word on the Loonatics?"
"They just got out of the hospital. They're still in bad shape but they are said to return within 3 months" Andrea told the commander.
Blake smiled as he thought of a few plans, "Good, all we must do is bide our time until they're healed and once the preparations are set, the plan will go into action. Once they're out of the way, then we'll be the only force for the citizens to depend on, we don't need anymore freaks ruining our show" he shoved the papers our of the desk in a fit of rage, "I HATE the Loonatics, they always make our forces look like an embarrassment in front of society."
He stopped and said, "That will be it for today."
Both the twins got up and walked out of his office, to follow their new orders.
Blake waited until the doors closed, once the doors were closed, he stood looking over the city at the top of the Police Headquarters located in Washington DC.
"This is going all according to plan, we release Devastator on the Loonatics and their leader is killed. Now the rest of his team was extremely injured that they may never go back. All we need to do now is find a false accusation on the rest of them." He looked at the files and had red X's over the 6 Loonatics that were injured but there are 10 more to catch.
He opened the doors and chuckled as he walked out.
