Chapter Three
Neutral POV
Emma looked up at the older boy sitting beside to her, watching the screen excitedly. A melancholy feeling washed over her as the next scene unfolded. The winter spirit seemed just like the type of person that Jackson and James could have been best friends with.
EXT. NORTH POLE - DUSK
FIERY GYPSY VIOLIN MUSIC as we move through clouds to reveal
a MASSIVE ICE CANYON, and just around a bend, the incredible
hidden fortress of NORTH, aka SANTA CLAUS.
Jack gasped in delight, his eyes lighting up at the scene before him.
"No way. I've been trying to get in there forever!" he exclaimed happily, studying the place that he had been trying to get into for the past two hundred and fifty years, give or take a decade. North looked at him, confused.
"I have never seen you in my workshop." he said, and Jack laughed, grinning fondly.
"That's because the yetis are always watching out for me. Phil takes the most 'Jack watches'. I think he likes me best." he replied. He knew he wasn't wrong. The yetis normally gave him a stern talking-to before giving him some cookies and sending him away.
INT. NORTH'S WORKSHOP - DUSK
We glimpse a familiar-looking RED JACKET and CAP with white
trim on a coat hanger just as a pair of tongs SLAM a block of
ice onto a stone work table-
The younger kids jump slightly, and Jack chuckled, looking down at Emma.
"That's a lot of ice." he said, making her giggle quietly.
IN QUICK CUTS: A CHAINSAW shears the block in half, spraying
ice. North lifts up the chainsaw revealing a massive tattoo
on his arm, the word NAUGHTY clearly visible.
Three ELVES huddle in a doorway around a plate of cookies,
each licking their own tasty morsel.
NORTH (O.S.)
Still waiting for cookies!
"That's gross." Amy commented, frowning. Her face was slightly green, as were the faces of the other girls in the room.
As North crosses the background, the elves lower the cookies
from their mouths, their faces frozen in fear.
The elves duck out of the way as North launches himself
across the floor on his rolling chair - CLOSE as his huge
HAND gropes furiously among his WORK TOOLS, finally grabbing
a miniature HAMMER. As North's humming along with his music,
delicately CHISELING into the ice, we see a second arm sleeve
tattoo, the word NICE clearly visible-
"Santa has tattoos. My childhood has been ruined." Jamie deadpanned. His friends laughed at his expression, while Sophie simply giggled at her brother.
His INTENSE BLUE EYE magnified in a JEWELER'S EYEPIECE - a
delicate SCULPTING TOOL cuts fine details into the ice-
His hands place the finished piece on a curving ICE TRACK: An
ice LOCOMOTIVE. It belches ice vapor and chugs down the
track, picking up speed-
NORTH
Yes!
North's hand grabs a cookie from a plate held up by the two
Elves.
One of the elves gives his cohort a look and points to the
plate as it chews with a mouth full of food, to which it then
unfurls its tongue and lets the half eaten morsels spill out
onto the plate.
Everyone in the room gagged in disgust at the sight.
"I told you the cookies were bad!" Tooth scolded North. The Guardian of Wonder had the decency to look sheepish.
NORTH
Ah, finally!
He takes a bite and leans toward the ice track. He chuckles
as the train hits a loop, and launches off a ramp into midair
- then WINGS unfold - JET ENGINES sprout and ignite and the
train lifts off the track-
The kids' jaws dropped in amazement as they stared in awe at the sculpture.
"How is that possible?" James asked. North smiled warmly, feeling the wonder from the children.
"With good hands, strong ice, and a little bit of wonder." he replied with a wink.
Suddenly, the DOOR is thrown open by one of North's concerned
YETIS, sending the flying ice locomotive skidding across the
floor in pieces.
"NO!" Jack and the kids wailed as the beautiful sculpture was destroyed by the yeti.
YETI
Arghbal...
NORTH
Ach!
The yeti cries out covering his mouth in shame. North cries
out, devastated. The yeti, equally emotional, lets out
another whimper. North looks down at the broken toy and
takes a moment to collect himself.
NORTH
How many times have I told you to
knock?
"Probably however many times the yetis had caught me trying to sneak into the workshop." Jack remarked with a smirk.
YETI
Warga blarghgha!
NORTH
What...? The Globe?
North leaps up - draws a HUGE SCIMITAR from its sheath and
HEADS OUT-
INT. NORTH'S GLOBE ROOM - CONTINUOUS
A sea of tiny BELLS on the heads of panicking elves part as
North's huge boots stomp through.
NORTH
Shoo with your pointy heads. Why
are you always under boot?
"Hey! The elves seem like awesome little guys!" Jack said, his eyes sparkling with amusement. Bunny's eyes widened in horror, and he looked up to his larger friend.
"He's not allowed near the elves, North." the Guardian of Hope pleaded. North chuckled at his friend's despair.
He pushes his way past a couple of his YETI WORKERS -
they're looking up in fear at -
THE GLOBE OF BELIEF
"That's amazing!" Joseph exclaimed, always having an eye for architecture. His wife nodded in agreement.
"What do the lights represent?" Danielle asked the Guardians curiously.
"Each light represents a believer in the world." Tooth explained, smiling at the colonial children.
Covered with LIGHTS blanketing the continents. But North
notices that all at once, HUNDREDS OF LIGHTS suddenly go out.
NORTH
What is this?
Now MORE LIGHTS, in GREATER NUMBERS, as if something is
snuffing them out by the thousands. North's concern grows.
NORTH
(TO YETI)
Have you checked the axis? Is
rotation balanced?
"What?" Monty asked, confused. The others looked equally confused, unsure as to what North was talking about.
YETI
(SHRUGS SHOULDERS)
Wardle bawddrel.
Before the Yeti can finish, a WIND whips up from out of
nowhere - North stares in outrage as a blanket of SWIRLING
BLACK SAND, crawls over the lights, and shrouds the ENTIRE
GLOBE in inky DARKNESS-
Although it was just a screen, and the events happening were in the future, the fear felt as if it was truly seeping into the room. Sophie whimpered, pressing closer to her brother and burying her face in his collar as Jamie held her tightly. Pippa wrapped her arms tightly around herself, Cupcake doing the same thing as both girls trembled. Caleb, Claude, and Monty all shivered, feeling something cold wash over them. Amy and Mark shut their eyes tightly as their parents held them both, and Danielle hugged Rebecca, who had small tears coming from her eyes. Emma, as if by instinct, grabbed the closest hand other than her mother's, which happened to be Jack's. The winter spirit looked surprised at the sudden contact, but put an arm around the young girl none the less.
The elves scurry in a panic, then all at once the BLACK SAND
WHOOSHES UP off the Globe - rushes up through the ceiling as
the remaining sand bursts into a puff of smoke and dissipates
into the air -
As the wind dies, the scattered pieces of debris settle to
the ground, and the globes lights come back on, North whirls
to see a HUGE SHADOW flash across the floors and curving
walls of his fortress. It quickly disappears, leaving
nothing but the distant ECHO of...LAUGHTER?
Emma's eyes widened, the laugh sounding familiar. The laugh filled her nightmares while she slept, making her dream over and over again of Jackson's death. She felt tears in her eyes, and Jack noticed this. He nudged her slightly, then gave her a small smile, which she returned.
North is frozen, looking up into the darkness, gravely:
NORTH
Can it be?
(then calls off)
Dingle!
"Not Dingle! NOOOOOO!" Jack cried in despair, slipping off of the couch to his knees in despair. Emma giggled, along with the other kids, especially the ones from the past. Jack reminded them all of their own Jackson with his antics. Jack grinned proudly, happy that he made the children laugh.
A group of elves step forward gleefully pointing to
themselves, as if they're all "Dingle". The excitement
quickly turns to confusion.
NORTH
Make preparations! We are going to
have company.
North reaches out for a large EMERGENCY LEVER, TWISTS and
PRESSES IT-
The Globe pulses with ENERGY, which lights up and ZOOMS UP
the AXIS SHAFT toward the roof-
"That's beautiful." Emma whispered, slightly in awe. Her cousins and friends nodded in agreement, their own eyes wide.
EXT. NORTH POLE - CONTINUOUS
From the tallest spire of North's fortress, NORTHERN LIGHT
ENERGY radiates outward: for the first time in decades, the
GUARDIANS' CALL GOES OUT!
The scene faded, and a new white light flashed in the room. When it faded, the Guardians immediately stood, placing themselves in front of the children. Pitch Black was staring back at them, his eyes cold, but his face unafraid.
"Pitch is unable to hurt the children here, Guardians. He is not a threat." Enchantress' voice said, and something in the room pushed Pitch back into a chair away from the children. The Guardians all glared at the Boogeyman as they returned to their own seats, and he returned it with a glare of his own. Emma shivered slightly at the man's arrival, and Theresa put a comforting arm around her daughter. Jack looked at the small family, and felt something strange in his chest, as if these people were important to him.
Please review!
There's one more rewritten chapter before I start with the NEW new chapters. I'm hoping to get the fourth chapter done tonight, so I may have some time this week to do a new chapter, but unfortunately, I can't make any promises.
I am grateful for you all sticking with me, though.
See you soon, Guardians!
Love,
Enchantress
