He Doesn't Remember Me
Lelouch was now sitting up with his bed in a chair position. Nunnally was beside him, crying. Lelouch had vague memories about her but he tried to comfort him as best as he could. Euphie was also beside him, smiling and trying to hold but her tears. Everyone else was in the room relieved that Lelouch was ok, but Suzaku was outside the room. He was sitting in the corner with his head against the wall. His eyes were emotionless. The only thing that went through his mind was Lelouch words: "Who are you?"
'He doesn't know who I am… He doesn't remember me…' Suzaku thought. Everything they did, talked about, laughed about was all gone.'
"Suzaku…?" he heard. He slowly looked towards the voice. It was Cornelia, Lelouch's older sister, and Euphie who followed behind her.
"What?" Suzaku asked in a monotone voice.
"Suzaku… you have to get a hold of yourself. Lelouch is alive that's what's important." Cornelia said. Suzaku only looked back to the wall. Euphie walked towards him and gently took his hand. Suzaku looked at her. She smiled at him gently,
"I know this is hard for you, but we can't give up. We have to help Lelouch remember." Euphie said, "And also this isn't easy for Lelouch either. He is in an unknown world right now, with people he doesn't know and who can he trust. As his lover I hope you can help him through all that and I will help you as his sister and as your friend."
Suzaku, moved by Euphie's words, finally smiled, "Thank you." He said standing up. Suddenly the nurse came running by and informed them that Lelouch's family has arrived. Suzaku without another second began to dash back to Lelouch's room. Lelouch's family have never been the kindest and Suzaku has promised Lelouch that he would never let them drag him back to that wretched family. Suzaku dashed to the door and opened it crying Lelouch's name. To his relief Lelouch was still there with Nunnally beside him. Lelouch flinched as he heard Suzaku charge in. He looked at Suzaku confused, but slowly moved his mouth and said "Yes, something wrong?"
Suzaku was about to open his mouth until he heard a familiar voice behind me. A voice Suzaku had not missed since Lelouch and him moved out and started living together. Suzaku turned slowly and faced the man standing behind him. Suzaku's eyes narrowed as he came face to face with the man.
"Nice to see you again, Suzaku – kun." The man said with a sly smile.
"You too, Schneizel." Suzaku replied feeling his hand tighten. Schneizel turned his attention to Lelouch who was staring now starting at him. Schnieizel pushed Suzaku aside and walked to him and invited himself to sit next to Lelouch. Suzaku wanted to stop him but he knew he had something he wanted to confirm. Schneizel reached his hand out and brushed his fingers against Lelouch's cheek.
"Do you remember me, Lelouch?" Schneizel asked in a kind voice. "It's me your older brother."
Lelouch stared at Schniezel and did not say anything, but suddenly Lelouch's eyes changed.
"Ni – san?" Lelouch asked sounding a little happy. Schneizel smiled and pulled Lelouch closer and embraced him.
"That right Lelouch, it's you brother." Lelouch smiled and closed his eyes and slowly placed his arms around Schneizel. "Lelouch, I'll be staying in town for a while. Wanna come and stay with me at the lounge?"
Lelouch looked at him confused. "Lounge, aren't we going home?"
"That's right you don't remember, well, anyway. I'll tell you later right now do you want to come with me for now? You sister's live together in a small house it will be trouble to go to them. Is it ok if you come with me?"
Lelouch still had a confused look but nodded. Suzaku felt his chest tighten. Lelouch is going back with… The nurse checked up on Lelouch again and confirmed that Lelouch could check out in the morning and it would be safer to leave him here for the night. Schneizel nodded and said he understood the situation. Schneizel was about to leave but Lelouch reached out and tugged on Schneizel's jacket.
"I'll be back in the morning; can you wait for me here?" Schneizel reassured Lelouch. Lelouch nodded and slowly let go. As Schneizel exited the room he was greeted by Suzaku.
"Why don't you stay the night? They have an extra bed at the side there." Suzaku asked.
"I thought I be kind to you since your darling suddenly forgot all about you. I thought I let you spend more time with him before I take him back." Schneizel said zipping up his jacket and throwing his scarf around his neck. Suzaku stood still for a second before making his way to see Lelouch. Kallen and everyone had left already. Euphie and Nunnally left as well. Suzaku opened the door to see Lelouch lying on the bed already asleep. He pulled up a chair and placed it next to the bed. He sat down and stared at Lelouch. Lelouch suddenly turned until his face was facing Suzaku. Suzaku smiled at the sight he saw. He reached over and held Lelouch's hand. Lelouch flinched a little but then held on tighter to Suzaku's hand. Suzaku smiled at Lelouch's reaction.
'He does this all the time when we were together' Suzaku laid his head down and slowly drifted to sleep holding his lover's hand. When Suzaku awoke the next morning he noticed that Lelouch was also awake.
"Morning!" Suzaku panicked.
"Um… you're the boy from earlier." Lelouch said. "Why are you still here?"
"I was worried about you so I stayed." Suzaku said. "You are someone very special to me."
Lelouch stared at Suzaku for a bit as if he was examining an object for a science project. "Are you my friend?" Lelouch asked. Suzaku had not hoped for this answer but decided to answer yes. "Yes I am your friend."
"I see," Lelouch said. "You are kind for staying here to watch over me." He brushed his hair with his hand but soon found that something had caught his hair. He slowly separated his hair from the object that was wrapped around his finger. He took a closer look and realized that it was a ring. A beautiful ring, it was silver colored.
"Is this a ring? Was I married?" Lelouch asked his friend. Suzaku knows that it was the ring he had given Lelouch when they got engaged. Suzaku was about to answer when he was interrupted by the opening of the door. Schneizel was here. Soon Schneizel was now helping Lelouch get out of bed with Suzaku's help. They made their way slowly to the stairs going down step by step. Suzaku was at the side wanting to say something but had no idea what to say. As they reached the final level, Lelouch took a glance out the window and spotted a black car. He suddenly froze as images began to flash in his head.
"No I don't want to go! No! No! I'm staying!" were the voices that came to Lelouch's head and images of a mysterious man and a mysterious woman. Mom? Dad? Lelouch started trembling and backed away from the steps. "No… No…" he mumbled.
"Lelouch, what's wrong?" Schneizel asked trying to comfort Lelouch but Lelouch only backed away more.
"Lelouch calm down." Schneizel suddenly grabbed him which Lelouch reacted quite seriously.
"No!" He shouted, he pushed Schneizel away and ran ahead forgetting about the steps that were infront of him. Lelouch slipped and fell. Suzaku reacted fast and jumped after Lelouch. He wrapped his arms around the frail figure shielding his head and body as they hit the steps and rolled to the floor. The nurses and doctors quickly ran down to check if they were ok. Suzaku sat up and quickly informed the nurse that he was alright but he knew Lelouch was not, at least not mentally. Lelouch was trembling hard and mumbling, "Don't take me away." He cried, "Don't…"
Suzaku knew the meaning behind those words, very well. He gently hugged Lelouch. "It's ok, Lelouch. Lelouch calm down… it's ok… I'm here. I will never leave you and let you be taken away." He said. To everyone's surprise Lelouch had calmed down and relaxed a bit.
"Feeling better?" Suzaku asked petting Lelouch on the head which Lelouch responded by nodding and slightly blushing.
"Yes, sorry." He said. Suzaku helped him to his feet but gently kept a hand near Lelouch so he wouldn't suddenly collapse.
"I think it would be best if Lelouch went with his friend here for now." The doctor suggested. "Will that be a problem, sir?" he looked to Schneizel. Schneizel only responded by a small nod. He then slowly walked pasted them.
"Brother… I'm sorry." Lelouch said.
"Don't worry." Schneizel said, "I'll come pick up when you're ready after all you are my precious little brother." Schneizel said then slowly glared at Suzaku. Suzaku only responded by pulling Lelouch closer to him and away from Schneizel. He then looked at Schneizel right with eyes telling Schneizel to leave. Schneizel only smirked and walked away. After the car parked outside left, Suzaku took Lelouch by the hand and led him out the hospital door. He held Lelouch's hand as they went down the stairs too. It wasn't a long way home so they could walk. Suzaku still held Lelouch's hand as they walked through the hospital gate. When they got out Suzaku noticed Lelouch was already panting. That's right, he did just get out of a hospital maybe we should call a taxi? Suzaku waved his hand for a taxi. The taxi parked by and Suzaku opened the door for Lelouch. Lelouch sat in with Suzaku following. He closed the dorr and told the address to the driver. As the car drove along the street Suzaku caught Lelouch looking outside, amazed by everything he saw. Suzaku only laughed but he suddenly saw Lelouch falling asleep.
"You tired?"Suzaku asked. Lelouch only looked away and gave a small nod. Suzaku laughed at the cute reaction. It was the same reaction when he teased Lelouch about being slow. When the car parked, Suzaku paid the driver and helped Lelouch out. After the car left Suzaku knelt down and faced his back to Lelouch. "Climb on I'll carry you back. We live at the top of the stairs here." Suzaku pointed to the 40 – 60 steps behind them.
"What? No it's fine I can walk." Lelouch protested.
"Climb on I can handle it." Suzaku said. "You can trust me right?"
Lelouch froze at that line, 'You can trust me right….' Such a familiar line….. Lelouch unknowingly climbed onto Suzaku's back. Once Suzaku had secured Lelouch he stood up and turned to the steps.
"Ready?" Suzaku asked looking back at Lelouch.
"Yes…" Lelouch said in a whisper as he tightened his grip.
"Then let's go." Suzaku said happily. As they walked on Lelouch felt that he was remembering something, remembering this feeling, the warm back, and the gentle hand that once held and carried him.
"I told no!" a voice echoed in his head.
"Come one it'll be fine." Another voice said.
"No let me down!" the other voice continued.
"No way, I can't leave the person I love here like this, let's go back together."
Lelouch couldn't see the faces of the two figures but he could feel the warm feeling. The feeling he had always longed for. Lelouch rested his head on Suzaku's shoulders as they walked up the stairs. He closed his eyes feeling the wind blow against his face. "Yeah let's go back" he suddenly said, much to Suzaku's surprise. Since that was the same thing he said before.
One time during the spring, while hiking in the woods with the school, Lelouch got into a fight with the elite students while defending Rival. A student got so mad that he pushed Lelouch so hard that Lelouch fell back and off the edge of the cliff. Luckily the cliff was not that high, but Lelouch twisted his ankle and couldn't get up and due to trees no one could find Lelouch. Suzaku jumped down after Lelouch and slid down to Lelouch's location. He told Lelouch to climb on his back now. Lelouch said he was fine, but he really wasn't. Suzaku growing impatient forcefully pulled Lelouch down and onto his back.
"I told no!" Lelouch shouted.
"Come one it'll be fine." Suzaku laughed.
"No let me down!" Lelouch pouted.
"No way, I can't leave the person I love here like this, let's go back together." Suzaku said, "You trust me right?"
Lelouch then slowly smiled and leaned on Suzaku's shoulder. "Yeah, let's go back together.
Suzaku looked back at Lelouch who was also now resting his head on his shoulder. "Yeah let's go." Suzaku said.
