Author's Note - People have spoke aboout the pacing and the complete flip in Aubrey's character for her and Brett. You have been heard and I have been trying to write chapters from Chloe's side of things. These chapters will be placed in between the current Brett chapters and will reveal the needed information to make the character changes apparent.

Not that good of a chapter as I don't really do...emotions, don't know why. But I will try for you guys.

Chapter 2 Extention - Another Chance

Chloe remained frozen as Brett walked away. She felt disappointed but slightly relieved that Brett was happy for her. She could feel deep down her heart was aching for the brunette to be in her life. She stood there in the classroom for another five minutes before the ringtone on her phone went off disrupting her mourning for the relationship she lost. Checking her phone she silently swore as she realised the time and the text from both Aubrey and Tom asking where she was.

The red-head ran out of the classroom, earning a few confused stares from the small number of pupils that remained in the school before she found her blonde haired friend and gave her a bone-crushing hug, which would have made Aubrey scream if she wasn't used to it already.

"So, where were you Chlo?" Aubrey voiced before pulling out of the hug revealing Tom standing beside them.

"I was talking to Brett" Chloe's nonchalant attitude about the exchange caused Tom to be annoyed (because his girlfriend talking about her ex) and Aubrey to worry because Chloe didn't do relaxed, Chloe only did happy or upset.

"What did that thing want with you now?" Aubrey refused to say the boy's name after the tears that she had cleaned up during the Summer.

"Be nice Aubrey. I was actually the one who talked to him."

"You did what? Chloe, you know how I feel about you guys together" Tom finally included himself into their conversation and earned an agreeing nod from Aubrey.

"I was telling him about me and you. He was honest with me earlier so I thought I would return the favour. What's the big deal anyway, it's not like I am going to go out with him again." This time it was Aubrey's turn to speak again.

"I'm not afraid about you going out with him, I'm afraid he will hurt you again. You spent days crying into my shoulder I can't just watch him do that to you again."

"Well, that's not going to happen. He knows about me and Tom. He was happy for us by the way"

"He was?" Both Tom and Aubrey asked uncertainly what to think.

"Yes, I don't understand why that is so shocking. He was a nice guy before...the stuff happened, so why wouldn't he be now?"

"Because he ignored you, Chloe. He tossed you to the curb every chance you gave him. He broke your heart." Tom's frustration made every word come out harsher than the gentle reminder he meant them as.

"You don't think I know that! But you weren't there! You didn't see his eyes when I came to visit him. They were filled with fear and pain. I may not know why but I think he did what he did to protect me and after our talk today I know he wants the best for me. If you have a problem with that talk to Aubrey about it." Chloe walked away leaving her friends standing in shock. Fighting the urge to apologise to them and the burning confusion on whether or not she broke up with Tom.

Hours passed before Chloe picked up her phone to call her best friend. The phone ringed and with each passing ring, her hope of the blonde picking up plummeted. By the fifth ring, her hope was completely gone, as she was about to hang up a voice came through her phone.

"Aubrey speaking" In her usual professional tone when she answers phone calls. Chloe realised that the blonde must not have checked the caller ID.

"Hey Bree, can we talk." her guilt seeping into her meek voice.

"I'm not sure Chloe, are you going to yell again?" Aubrey knew that she wouldn't but her pride kept her from forgiving her friend without at least teasing her slightly.

"I'm sorry, I really am. You know how I get when people talk badly about my friends." Chloe tried to reason.

"I know Chloe. I just worry about what he will do to you. You can't deny he doesn't have the best track record."

"I know but I think that there is something he is hiding. I don't know why but he isn't the guy I knew in the Summer." This peeked Aubrey's interest, ever since she had held Chloe in her arms she remained more focused on the brunette's actions and had noticed them being...off. She remained quiet on her suspicions wanting to have proof before confronting anyone.

"Look I won't stop you but that doesn't mean I like the guy. To me, he is the man who broke your heart. I have to go, I have a psychology test soon."

"Thank you, Bree...for not giving up on me just yet" Chloe's voice remained quiet.

"I will always be there for you Chlo. Speaking of being there, have you spoke to Tom yet? He was pretty hurt by the outburst earlier." This caused Chloe to close her eyes as she remembered the hurt look on his face when she left.

"No, not yet. I am just scared that we will be over. I don't want that."

Aubrey sighs "Are you sure Chloe? You lashed out at him over your ex-boyfriend." Aubrey emphasised the 'ex' with her distaste on full display.

Chloe thought about her friend's words, uncertain about what the truth was. "Bye Bree. Love you" With that she hung up her phone.

The phone remained in Chloe's hand as she stares at the highlighted name. Tom. Taking a deep breath the red-head pushes the call button and waits anxiously as the rings continue until a message comes through as the call is rejected.

Tom: Sorry, can't talk right now. Football practice. See you tomorrow?

Chloe smiled. He wasn't mad at her or at least didn't appear to be.

Chloe: Yeah, totes. Sorry about earlier.

It wasn't long until another text appeared.

Tom: I'm sorry as well. I was being a jerk about it.

Tom: Sorry coach says it's time for me to go. Bye Chloe.

Chloe threw her phone at the end of her bed and lay down. The events of the day repeated themselves in her head. She knew she had many conversations tomorrow. The red-head remained still imagining every possibility of what would happen the next day. One thing was certain though, she needed to talk to Brett.

The next day came and Chloe remained eagle-eyed trying to catch a glimpse of Brett. Every time she saw Brett he would always manage to walk past her, the only time he didn't leave was in class, but he remained concentrated on his studying.

The week dragged on and Chloe grew more annoyed, she had been avoiding Tom, for the most part, claiming she was busy, he understood and gave her time.

Chloe was placing her books in her locker when she felt a figure behind her. Turning around she came face to face with Tom, his smile was infectious and she beamed up at him. Truthfully she had missed him. They started to catch up on what they had missed. When they were in the middle of a talking Tom pulled Chloe in for a kiss, Chloe remained still to begin with but soon started to kiss back. She kept her eyes closed unwilling to let her brain catch up in reality, she wanted this to be Brett and she knew that it was bad that she wished it was.

As they broke their kiss Chloe opened her eyes and saw in the corner of her eyes saw a familiar looking brunette looking at them in an almost trance-like state. Once her eyes meet the slightly glazed over steel blues of Brett's, he starts to run. Chloe quickly unwraps herself from Tom and goes after the boy calling his name but he doesn't stop until he makes his way out of the metal exit doors.

Chloe stared at the metal doors waiting for the brunette to re-emerge. She was so focused that she didn't feel the arm that made its way around her, she only tore her eyes away when she heard someone talk softly in her ear, turning around she came face to face with a sad looking Stacie.

"You okay?" Stacie questioned.

"Yeah, just...Brett ran out of the doors." Chloe didn't want to admit the speciifics, Stacie saw this and didn't push it any further.

"Want me to go after him? Make sure he's alright" Chloe didn't trust her words and only nodded while discreetly wiping a stray tear away. She didn't want to hurt Brett, every time she did it deepened pit she felt inside.

The red-head watched as Stacie went out of the doors. She waited a few minutes before returning to her locker and saw that Tom had waited for her. He smiled sympathetically at her but remained silent about the ordeal. Soon Tom kissed her cheek before excusing himself and went to class leaving Chloe reminiscing over everything that had happened since she met Brett. Tears of both happiness and sadness appeared in her eyes. She reluctantly turned around and went on with her day trying to act as if nothing happened, refusing to let her inner conflictions show themselves.
