Do I have an excuse for not updating sooner?

Well... Yes and no. I had a lot of work to do over the past few months (and it certainly isn't becoming less in near future). Also, I didn't quite know what I should exactly write for this chapter...sorry D: It's not cancelled though. I have ideas about the main points of the story. Just writing things that lead up to it...

Again, please note that English is NOT my first language. So if you find any errors, please let me know! Thank you :)

Edit: Corrected some little mistakes. Tell me if you see any more :3

Chapter 3: Collecting hints

It was Sunday morning. Yugi stood in front of the large mirror in his room, trying to adjust his outfit. He was wearing a dark blue leather shirt with his trademark choker and black leather jeans.

/You know it's not that important how we look like. It's just another day with Anzu./

The little boy chuckled at his other self who was standing right behind him.

||It's not 'our' day with her... I told her that you'll come alone and I'll be staying in my soul room again.||

The former Pharaoh pouted.

/You didn't tell me that. You planned another date with Anzu for me?!/

Yugi stopped working on his outfit and turned around to his darkness, a slight smile on his lips.

||It's not a date. I just thought that maybe you needed a day for yourself... and why not letting her accompany you?||

He went to his desk and picked up the puzzle which was lying there, pulling the metal chain over his head.

||After all... it may be the last time you got a chance to hang out with Anzu...||

Yami turned to his light, now mirroring the smile on his hikaris face.

/Yeah... maybe/

"So... is everything alright between you two boys?"

The Pharaoh took a sip of his warm drink then set the cup back on the small table between him and Anzu. It was almost evening, they decided to end their day in Anzu's favourite coffee shop after they enjoyed the afternoon together, strolling through the streets of Domino and visiting the park and the arcade (this time Anzu even convinced the darkness to dance with her).

"I don't really know... it's kind of strange."

"Huh?... What do you mean?" Anzu also set her coffee aside, now looking at her friend, awaiting an answer. She found her companion acting a bit weird that day, his mind seemingly occupied with other things.

Yami averted her gaze, not knowing if he should inform Anzu about the things that happened lately with Yugi. He could use some advice and he knows that, if he wishes so, Anzu wouldn't tell a thing to Yugi. After weighing his options for some moments, he finally decided that it'll probably be the best to hear her opinion.

So Yami told her about the night he watched the dream of Yugi and also about the third soul room which suddenly appeared within the connection of their souls. He described what he has seen in Yugis dream in detail, while Anzu was listening to him patiently.

"Mhh... well I don't know of any of those people you described to me, the little boy and the strange man in the dream and also the woman on the photo. Also I don't know where Yugi lived before he arrived here in Domino, at the kame game shop. Who knows? Maybe this mansion in the dream was his home before," Anzu said, still thinking about what she just heard.

Yami frowned at that. "Do you think so? ... It would explain why the dream was so detailed if Yugi actually lived in this place. But what about the people which appeared in it? And the photo?"

"Could be people he met back at that time," Anzu suggested. "But he told me that he can't remember anything about that woman in the photo..." Anzu straightened herself in her seat, a slight assumption forming in her head. "What if... that woman is his real mother...?"

Yami stopped his train of thought immediatly, looking at Anzu with wide eyes. "Real mother? But Yugi's mother lives with him and grandpa at the shop!" Now it was Anzu's turn to look surprised at her friend. "Wait... you didn't know that Yugi is adopted? He hasn't told you or... or used your mind-link or something to show you?"

Yami was baffled at that. The Mutous weren't related to him?! How could he miss that?

A weird silence fell between the two friends. Feeling uncomfortable, Anzu tried to break the ice by telling what she knew about that matter.

"It's also kind of luck that I heard of this. I doubt that Yugi told it to anyone else by himself... so Jonouchi and Honda probably don't know of this either. It was his grandpa who told me this some years ago. His daughter couldn't conceive any kids so they wanted to adopt one... and it happened to be Yugi. You know that he and I know each other for a long time now... We were 10 when we first met and he was even more shy then he was right before he met you. Always alone... never talked to anyone until I befriended him. When I first asked for his name he said that he doesn't know how he's called. When I asked him where he came from, he said that he lives with the Mutou family... but didn't refer to them as relatives of some sort. It seems like it took some time for him to accept them as his new family. 'Yugi' is the name the Mutous gave him. "

"So... he doesn't remember his real name either?" "Probably."

Another thing we had in common. What said Ishizu Ishtar once? That the past would repeat itself or something like that?

The night approached fast, so Anzu and the Pharaoh soon parted ways. As he returned to the game shop, he was still thinking about the things Anzu had told him.

Yugi is not related to the Mutous. He doesn't know where he comes from or who he is. But it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Or he's just very good at hiding his feelings...even from me. Shall I ask him about all these things? Maybe he won't answer me if I do. From what Anzu said, he rather avoids talking about his whereabouts.

The only thing he can't hide are his dreams. There is a possibility of finding out more about that matter by just spying on what he sees while he sleeps... Should I really do that?

Not really coming to a conclusion he decides to just check on his hikari for now. He rested in the puzzle all the day, not wanting to disturb 'the date' he set up for his dark half. Taking in a deep breath, Yami concentrated his powers on the puzzle. Few moments later he felt the world around him fade, being replaced with the shadowlike aura of the innerside of the puzzle.

First, he checked Yugi's room. It was empty. Not only that but it seemed to be covered in a thick layer of dust and Cobwebs, almost as if it wasn't inhabitated for the last few years. Didn't know we had spiders in here. Wondering where his little Aibou was, he tried to reach to him through the bond they shared. He found the other end responding faintly, but not where he guessed he'd be at.

Opening the door of the now third existing soul room, he was quite surprised with what he saw in there. The room has changed. It was bigger... a lot bigger. A queen-sized bed with royal blue bed sheets was added to it. There were more bookshelves then before and some shining armours stood beside them, holding greatswords in their hallow hands. Also, a fireplace now stood on the opposite wall, giving some warmth to the somewhat cold room.

He quickly found the one he was searching for... lying asleep in the armchair. Some books where spread on his lap, some open, some closed. He must have fallen asleep while reading these.

Out of curiosity, Yami picked one of the open books up and started reading. Well... at least he tried.

What in Ra's name are those symbols? What language is that? Did Yugi seriously read that book?!

Perplexed, he skimmed through the booksites to search for any images he could've looked at, but didn't find any. Taking the other books, he found out that all of them were written in that mysterious language. All but one of them. The Pharaoh carefully took the book from his hikari's lap. It was in a dark red cover and looked like it was written ages ago. Gold lettered words showed the title of the book: "The Legend of Sparda". It was already opened, so he started reading where his other half most likely left off.

"...He holds no grudge against his own kind. But he holds his sword for light or, he wields his sword for the weak. Though an inhabitant of the demon world he was one with a prideful soul. Against this sword, even the king of the demon world was defeated. And without a king, darkness loses its power. Sparda feared for the return of darkness and so he sealed that world along with the people who took sides with it. As a result, humans whose lives were extended worshipped him as a hero who saved the human world. However, Sparda one day secretly disappeared and the people eventually forgot about his existence. Soon, this hero who was once real became just a legend..."

Yugi stirred, and the Pharaoh stopped reading to look at him. He slowly awoke. Once he opened his eyes fully he saw Yami standing beside him, looking at him questioningly. "Yami? ... You're back already?"

"Yes. It's already past midnight."

"I must've fallen asleep..." The boy yawned once, looking like he would fall asleep again any moment. The darkness smiled at him, taking the books away and laying them on a nearby table. "It's alright Yugi. Just stay here resting for a bit. It won't hurt if I stay the one controlling your body for the rest of the night." Yugi nodded, but didn't seem to realize exactly what Yami said because he immediately fell asleep.

Not wanting to disturb him, the Pharaoh left the room only to stand in the corridor and lean against the blue door, thinking about the passage he read on the book and the image Yugi left on his mind.

He hoped that he didn't show the shock he felt once he looked into his hikaris eyes. The amethyst was gone.

They were blue.

Yugi changed? Wonder what will happen next... hehe
