I'm with you

AN: sorry it's been a while since I updated I just recently got dumped so I've been a little bitter. Now here's chapter 3 hope you enjoy.

It is what it is

Jane collapsed on her couch thankful that it the day had ended, she had been with Maura all day taking her to different crime scenes to see if there was anything missed. Jane noticed that Maura hadn't really changed much over the years sure her hair had grown and it had become lighter but apart from that everything about Maura Isles had stayed the same.

Jane thought about how much she'd changed over the years, she was more relaxed and didn't wear pantsuits anymore. When she came to New York she decided to change it up now she wears jeans and a leather jacket. Jane would never wear that combination of clothes back in Boston suddenly her thoughts were interrupted but a knock on the door.

Jane pulled herself off the couch and opened the door, there stood Maura Isles the last person she thought would be standing outside her apartment.

"Maura what are you doing here?" Jane asked.

"I came to talk to you, may I come in?" Maura replied.

"Sure what do you wanna talk about?" Jane asked as she let Maura in.

Jane walked past Maura and sat on the couch and waited for the honey blonde to say something.

"Four years I tried calling, texting and emailing you but you never replied." Maura stated as she looked at Jane.

"I changed my number and email." Jane said going to the fridge and getting out a beer.

"Your mother, Frankie, Barry and Vince all tried to contact you." Maura said hoping to get more than a monotone response from Jane.

"Like I said I changed my number and email, besides I wouldn't want to speak to them anyway." Jane said once again in monotone voice.

"There your family Jane how could you not want to speak to them." Maura said as Jane sat back down on the sofa.

Jane took a long sip of beer before responding "How were they family to me when the turned me away and wanted nothing to do with me? How could I possibly call them family when they all thought I was a dirty cop?" Jane asked angrily.

"Jane you have to see things from our point of view there was so much evidence against you, every time we tried to prove your innocence we'd uncover more evidence against you. I wanted so much to believe it wasn't true and you know I deal with facts and make decisions based on what the facts tell me. With all the evidence and facts against you I made my decision as did your family and partners." Maura said trying to plead her case to Jane.

"I could understand that everything was against me but didn't it occur to you that it was a little too easy and convenient to find all this evidence against me. I mean if I was a dirty cop don't you think I could of hid it a little better, hell if I really tried I could get away with it." Jane said almost shouting.

"Even when we found out you were innocent you still left, that hurt us all." Maura said noticing the pulse in Jane's neck becoming more visible. That's all it took before Jane snapped.

"GOD FUCKING DAMM IT MAURA" Jane shouted and throwing her beer at the wall. The beer bottle smashed and pieces of glass went everywhere making Maura flinch. "I DONT GIVE A SHIT HOW MUCH IT HURT YOU ALL, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH IT HURT ME? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE HELL I WENT THROUGH? DO YOU KNOW HOW FUCKING GOD DAMM ANGRY I WAS THAT IT TOOK SOME COMPLETE STRANGERS FROM NEW YORK, TO FIGURE OUT THAT I WAS INNOCENT IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER READING MY CASE FILE!" Jane shouted just as Arianna burst through the door pushing past Maura to get to Jane.

Maura stood back and watched the scene unfold before her everything felt like it went in slow motion. Maura saw Jane slowly falling to to the floor and saw Arianna skid on her knees toward Jane and catch her. Arianna held onto to Jane as she stood up, she held Jane like a groom would hold his bride and carried her towards Jane's bedroom and placed her on her bed.

Arianna walked back out to the living room with Jane's guns and badge and placed them on the kitchen worktop, she then turned her attention towards Maura who was still trying to understand what just happened.

"What just happened?" Maura asked Arianna.

"She passed out it happens from time to time." Arianna replied as she started to clean up the broker beer bottle.

"Will she be ok?" Maura asked.

"She will be fine as long as you're gone by time she wakes up." Arianna replied as she cut her finger on a piece of glass. Maura noticed that redhead didn't seem to register that she was bleeding.

"Your bleeding." Maura stated.

"I know but it doesn't hurt. Why'd you come here?" Arianna asked standing up and looking at Maura.

"I came here to talk to Jane I just wanted to explain a few things about what happened in Boston before she left." Maura replied.

"Jane isn't the same person you knew back then she's changed a lot, I should know I'm the one who's had to put up with her for the past 4 years." Arianna said putting all the glass pieces in the bin.

"I just don't understand why she left even after her name was cleared, do you know why?" Maura asked hoping to get some answers.

"I know lots of things to do with Jane but I won't give you the answers, I love Jane too much to betray her trust. The only person who can give you answers is Jane." Arianna replied looking toward Jane's bedroom.

"I guess you're right" Maura said as Arianna took off her shoes and jacket.

"So how long have you and Jane been together then?" Maura asked as she saw Arianna out her gun and badge away in a draw.

"We're not together but I can't describe us without it sounding wrong. She's family to me and I would do anything for her, when I saw her get shot in the neck I thought I was gunna lose her and I swear I felt my heart break inside my chest. I love her with all my heart but that doesn't mean I want a relationship with her. I won't lie we do hook up but that's all there is too it we've both gone out with other people and there's no harsh feelings, it's just the way me and Jane are together. We're not friends or girlfriends, even family doesn't describe what we are to each other. I don't know how to describe it really, we don't fit into any relationship label" Arianna said watching Maura's reaction closely.

"I don't quite know what to say to that." Maura said stunned at the profound words that came out of the redheads mouth.

"You don't have to say anything but it is getting late you should go back to your hotel and rest we have a lot of work to do tomorrow." Arianna said as she walked Maura to the door, both women said goodbye and Arianna closed the door and rested her head against it.

'Tomorrow is going to be awkward' Arianna thought to herself as she walked towards Jane's bedroom.
