Right some quick authors notes first. First up and I cannot believe I've been forgetting this I do not own RWBY that would be Monty and Rooster teeth (Yea my little fanfic probably doesnt bother them but it doesn't hurt to have a disclaimer). Second up, I'm sorry to all of you if this story is sometimes hard to read, I'm unfamiliar with the site's formatting so I don't know how to do that nice little line that most people use to indicate a scene change or POV shift. I'm trying to find my own that FF wont eliminate from the doc until I learn more. Third this fic will eventually have Bumblebee, I'm just not as good at writing romance as everything else, so it might take some time to get there.
Chapter 3: Flights and Fires
Yang opened her eyes slowly. The first thing she registered was the sun filtering through the many branches of the canopy. The second was a horrible ache across her whole back.
"Okay, what the hell is going on?" The blonde rubbed her neck as she sat up and found herself propped up by several tree branches. "Weird, I don't remember climbing up here."
Dropping down from the branches the huntress observed her surroundings and began to stretch her pained muscles. After a little bit of time Yang popped back up into her normal stance. "There we go, that feels so much better. Now to go find Ruby!"
She stopped and looked around the clearing. "Umm...but first I need to figure out where to start."
Picking a direction Yang started to walk when she noticed something red out of the corner of her eye. Turning and moving towards it the young woman found a small scrap of red cloth leading in another direction. Without a second thought the huntress took off in the direction the cloth had pointed, taking as direct a path as she could through the forest. After an hour of searching and several detours however...
OoOoO
Yang looked around in confusion. "Okay, so I came from that direction," she said to herself as she pointed. "And I want to go that way," she murmured pointing another direction. "But I've passed that rock about five or six times," she indicated the offending rock formation.
"So in conclusion," she ended as she let herself fall on her back. "I'm completely lost." Looking up at the forest canopy the huntress weighed her options. So I could keep going, but that's getting me nowhere really damn quick. I can backtrack a bit but I could just as easily get lost as actually find which way I'm supposed to go. I could just walk around this damn forest just calling Ruby's name hoping she hears me but there isn't really a chance of that working.
The blonde let out a growl of frustration and pounded her fist into the dirt. Dammit what am I supposed to do?
Then there was another growl as an Ursa moved into Yang's field of view and looked down at her. The huntress simply blinked "Well at least I know what to do for now."
The brawler flew to her feet as the ursa slammed it's paw down where her head had been a moment before. As the Grimm looked up towards the human it saw a fist rocketing right towards its face. There was a satisfying crunch as Yang's fist connected with the mask of the ursa, shattering the mask and killing the beast.
"Ha! Gonna have to do much better than that to get me." Yang said grinning.
That's when the pack of Beowolves emerged from the tree. Yang frowned. "I just had to open my big mouth."
OoOoO
Figures, Adam always did have a very definite pattern to how he organizes things. Blake had been watching the patrols walk through the forest for several hours now. Its a very well covered perimeter but there should be an opening on this edge within the next several minutes, that's when the hard part begins.
As soon as she saw her chance the infiltrator slipped in unnoticed by the nearest guards. Staying low Blake moved quickly from cover to cover heading towards the center of the camp. The going was slower than she would have hoped since she had to worry not only about being heard or seen but also about being smelled. Looking ahead the woman noticed a trap set to catch intruders at the next spot downwind of a patrol. Blake gritted her teeth. Curses! They've gotten better since I left.
Left with no other choice Blake was forced to wait until the nearest guard walked past her hiding spot. Once he did the faunas girl stepped out behind him and choked her enemy into unconsciousness and dragged the body into her hiding spot before proceeding. As she moved through the camp the brunette took notice of several crates of weapons, bigger than what the White Fang usually used in their missions. What could they possibly need weapons like this for? Certainly they aren't thinking on taking on the main force of the military? Hit and run missions have been successful but larger confrontation would be suicide.
Proceeding on Blake noticed several Fang members dressed not in the standard uniform but in grays and greens, meant to blend into a forest. They carried with them a variety of weapons and other equipment meant for ease of moving and silent kills. The cat faunas had to suppress a hiss. So these are Adam's...replacements for me. She mentally snorted, making sure not to give away her position. Pah! They'll never be as good. Moving on with perhaps a bit more strut than was a good idea in a sneaking step, Blake headed towards the center of the camp where she knew she would find the command tent and the intel she needed. The infiltrator was almost inside the tent when the flap was moved aside and she desperately scrambled into cover.
Blake hadn't seen Adam in several years. He looked leaner than she remembered, like he hadn't quite been having enough to eat for meals this month. His clothes were fresh but his mask bore new scratches and marks. Oddly she didn't see his weapons with him. However the train of thought was forgotten as the White Fang leader looked at the map in his had.
Blake stared at the parchment intently. Damnations, that's the most useful piece of information in this whole camp and I can't get to it.Without even stopping to look around Adam furled the paper and stalked off to his objective. Blake waited for a minute after her former friend had walked out of sight before sneaking into the tent. The interior was spartan containing only a field cot and a table with papers scattered all over it. Not wasting any time the young woman went and began looking through the papers on the table. Let's see...Troop movements, supplies, accounts. But what are they doing here? Target profiles? None of these people live in Vale, so what are they doing here?
Suddenly there was a loud sound that sounded like a combination of a squelch and a crack. Then the corpse collided with the side of the tent and ripped a hole in the cloth wall. The exposed spy froze momentarily as she was spotted by the terrorists who came to investigate.
Well, I do believe my luck has never been this bad. Whirling, Blake cut the opposite side of the tent open with her sword before running away from the camp.
OoOoO
Yang caught the arm of the next attacker before breaking the beast's arm. The monster retreated, snarling in pain. Yang panted as she surveyed her opponents. Still about twelve left, plus the Alpha still hasn't joined in yet. Aura levels reasonable but they took me by surprise and if I draw out this fight they could get have to break away and keep running, Can't use fire here so... Yang started stepping back slowly as she slid her hands down to her holstered pistols. Before she could get the guns out one of the beowolves leaped at her, Yang went down...
...And rolled with the momentum of the grimm, firing both her pistols into the center of its chest and used the momentum from the roll and the gunshots to help her roll backwards onto her feet. Recovering the blonde covered two of the nearest monsters with her guns. The Alpha growled and began moving towards the huntress. Yang giggled nervously. "Wow, aren't you a big fellow. I'd love to stay and hang out...butmysisterisintroublesoitstimetogobye!" she yelled as she dashed to one side, firing her weapons at any of the beasts that jumped in front of her.
The brawler kept sprinting, stowing her guns so she wouldn't accidentally misfire them while fleeing. She ran for almost a mile, the sounds of beowolves constantly tearing through the underbrush. Just when Yang thought she'd get away another shape came streaking in from the side, colliding with her and taking the blonde off of her feet. Getting to her hands and knees the huntress looked up and saw the woman who had broken her out of the fortress before. Only now her clothing was much more disheveled and her hair was loose, hanging out of her hood. They both stared for a moment before yelling "You!" in unison. Yang immediately moved up and forward into a fighting stance when she saw several menacing figures step out of the forest behind her former rescuer. She then heard the growls of beowolves and the scrape of swords on sheath as the dark girl place her back against Yang's. The blonde huntress grinned. "Sorry about my friends, they're kinda party animals. Don't know how to control them."
Blake let out a sigh at the other woman's joke. "Is that really your best material?"
"Of course not! I haven't even started in on my best puns yet!"
Blake had to resist the urge to grind her palm against her face. "I cannot believe I've saved your life all these times just so you can make bad jokes and draw attention to me!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa there. First of all: my jokes are not terrible. Second of all, I most certainly did not draw attention to you."
"Really? Then how did a beowolf corpse crash from the sky into the camp I was infiltrating?"
"I can't be held accountable for that. I'm not just saying it either, Ozpin got it so I'm legally unaccountable for objects I hit with flying and smashing into stuff."
Blake was about to tell Yang where she could shove her unaccountability when she saw a beowolf gather itself. "Duck!" The freelancer yelled as she dodged under the strike herself. The other woman dived to the ground just in time and then came up feeling her hair and looking around frantically. Before she could find whatever she was looking for Blake grabbed her arm and dragged the brawler along with her as the small section of forest exploded into chaos. Out of the corner of her eye the infiltrator noticed several grimm go down under the assault of the White Fang's agents, as well as at least one of the radicals being mauled by a beast. Then she got a better view as she was lifted off her feet, a shoulder digging painfully into her stomach. Blake looked down trying to see who it was when she spotted a long trail of beautiful blonde hair. Yang must be carrying me. It is amazing how fast she's going. After a few minutes all signs of pursuit disappeared and the brunette tapped her companion on the shoulder. Getting the message, the blonde slowed to a stop and let the other girl down. However the faunas girl hadn't realized that during all of the excitement the scarf covering her face had come down.
Yang leapt back and stared for a second before breaking out into a wide grin. "Holy crap, you're that girl who gave me that message! And you let me out of the fortress? You're going out of your way to get on my good side." A sly grin crossed Yang's face. "There a particular reason for how kind you've been?"
Blake nodded. "Yes but not that reason."
The blonde hung her head dejectedly. "Aww, nuts."
Blake snorted in response. "Look, I brought you out here because-"
"Well, well, well. Look who it is." One of the Whit Fang elites walked into the clearing, before long she was flanked by two others. "A huntress, and the infamous Blake Belladonna. What are the odds?"
Yang sent a sideways glance towards her companion. "Infamous?"
"Only to them."
"Enough talk! You're both coming with us!"
The freelancer then noticed movement in the forest behind the goons. "I think your new friend disagrees."
As the enemy opened her mouth the Alpha pounced at her. This time Blake and Yang took off in unison running from their opponents. There was the sounds of a brief scrabble behind them but when Yang looked back the Alpha was chasing the two on the ground while the White Fang members pursued from the tree branches. "Oh crap! Hey, kitten. Run faster. I forgot, predators chase running prey."
Blake merely nodded as the two kept running. The freelancer noticed a change in the trees. Maybe this section of the forest is thinning out. We might be able to get to a spot where we can lose them or fight. Before she could say as much to Yang the faunas girl's leg was pulled out from under her as she was bodily lifted into the air. Curses, those damn replacements. Without even thinking about it Blake pulled her sword out and slashed through the offending object. Only instead of cutting rope like she has expected a thing resembling nothing so much as a blackened tree branch landed next to her foot. Yang stopped and stared. "Oh, that's not good." Then the brawler was immediately grabbed by several trees which began lifting her into the air. Blake looked around and noticed that the creatures had the White Fang members in their grasps and that the Alpha had bitten off several false tree limbs. "Kitten!" Yang called out from up in the air. "They're Biolents! Grimm that disguise themselves as trees. I can handle them no problem but you should get to a safe distance."
The brunette glared and spat out: "My name, is Blake." before turning and running. Yang nodded to herself. "Blake, huh? It suits her. Well can't let her get to far ahead. The blonde closed her eyes and began breathing in and out slowly, calming herself. Relaxed, at peace, I control the power, the power does not control me. Just as she was starting to feel ready there was a tugging sensation and a sharp if minor pain as one of the monsters tore a clump of the brawler's hair out.
When Yang's eyes snapped ope they were a bright red.
OoOoO
Blake ran as fast as she could away from the new threat. Once she was about a hundred yards away she stopped to catch her breath. What the hell is she doing over there? Unfortunately the freelancer's break was short-lived as the Alpha prowled into view. Blake hissed at the monster. Oh Come ON! What do I have to do to catch a break?! The Beowulf leaped at the infiltrator only to savage an empty image as the real Blake dropped down from above, bringing both her heels down onto her adversary's muzzle. As the monster reeled the freelancer drew and fired her grapple pistol, only instead of using it to escape or pull her towards a foe she attached the claw to one of the beast's rear legs and let the gun fly and slam into its limb. At that point the Alpha fell and Blake leaped at it with both swords drawn. In her haste, she misjudged and only left two long slash marks in its mask. The Grimm roared in pain and swiped at the brunette, with no time to dodge or teleport Blake just had to take the hit. The Alpha and Blake stared each other down, waiting for the next move.
It never came as a large explosion followed by several smaller one sounded out through the trees. The monster turned back to the freelancer after the noise and let out a small growl as if saying "This is not over," before it turned and stalked off.
What are you doing Yang? Blake wondered to herself as she started running back, stopping to pick up her pistol on the way. Before long she came upon the burnt out clearing with the brawler standing in the center, looking around her in anger. Upon noticing the other girl the blonde focused on her. "Bastards pulled my hair."
O...kay then.... "And they deserved it." Blake replied.
Yang nodded returning to her normal self as her eyes faded from red to lilac. "Glad you understand." She began walking and hooked the freelancer's arm with her own as she passed. "So, Blake why dontcha tell me why you've been helping me out? I think we could be great friends.
Blake found herself nodding as she was swept up by Yang and the force of her personality. I think I may have over estimated myself here.

Roman stood on a hill and observed the crashed airship. "I don't exactly see what the problem is, you clearly shot down the ship."
Adam walked up alongside him. "True, we did but the target escaped due to an unforeseen...complication."
"What kind of complication?" Roman asked immediately before they both heard the cracks of high-caliber rounds going off in the distance. He looked over at Adam. "Oh I see, that kind."
"You have a reputation for killing huntsman and huntresses."
Roman straightened out his clothes. "Yes, you should have just said so. So, I kill your complication, you get your target and the deal goes down as planned?"
"Of course."
"Well then," Torchwick lit his pipe. "What are we waiting around here for?"
