Chapter 3: You can find out firsthand what it's like to be me.

A/N: hi everyone thanks for the great reviews I'm glad you all like the story, this chapter is quite long so please review : )

No I don't own Danny Jones blah blah blah or the song its belongs to the brilliant simple plan

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock ringing in my ear. I quickly shut it up and crawled out of bed. I headed into the bathroom and started to get ready for school. After I had a shower I pulled on a pair of clean jeans and my favourite red tank top. I brushed my damp hair and then dried off the ends with the hairdryer.

I traipsed downstairs to the kitchen in search of food.

"Morning Anna," my mum said cheerfully as I sat down at the table.

"Morning mum," I replied unenthusiastically pouring myself some orange juice.

"You'd better hurry up with your breakfast Danny's already waiting for you," my mum said casually washing up her plate in the sink.

I choked on my orange juice.

"He's here?" I managed to splutter.

"Yes, he's in the living room," my mum replied putting the clean plate away in the cupboard, "I think it's a lovely idea you two walk to school together, it's much safer than you going by yourself."

I shot out of the kitchen and across the hallway into the living room. She was right; there he was sitting on my sofa watching some morning show on the TV. He looked up when he saw me.

"Ready to go?" he asked standing up.

"Erm…yeah I'll just get my bag," I stuttered and backed out of the room.

I raced up the stairs and into my room. I grabbed my black zip up hoddie off the back of my computer chair and picked my bag up off the floor. I slung it over my shoulder and went back downstairs. Danny was waiting for me in the hallway.

"Something up?" he asked.

I must look as surprised as I feel. I mean I just can't believe he actually showed up.

"No, of course not," I said walking past him to the front door.

"Bye kids," my mum called after us as we walked out onto the street.

I walked off down the street leaving Danny trailing behind me.

"Hey where's the fire?" he called.

"At school apparently," I shouted back not stopping so he could catch up.

I heard the sound of hurried footsteps and soon Danny was walking along side me. I forgot he was into sports. He could easily catch up with me.

"Why are you in such a rush?" he asked as I pulled out my I-pod from my bag.

"Look Danny, why don't we make this less painful for both of us by not talking to each other," I said putting in my earphones. I turned up the music full blast.

Danny shrugged and looked confused but he didn't argue. Well if he did he would have been fighting a losing battle. I wouldn't have been able to hear him over my music.

We walked to school in silence. When we arrived we both walked through the gates together. I quickly turned off my I-pod and put it back in my bag. We're not allowed to have them at school and I don't feel like getting it confiscated, it's the only thing that keeps me sane most days.

I heard the familiar sequel of Ruby's voice. I looked up to see her running towards us. She ran straight to Danny and hugged him and then proceeded to snog his face off. I think what breakfast I ate is starting to come back up.

They broke apart and Ruby seemed to realise I was standing next to Danny.

"What's she doing here?" she hissed hanging off Danny's neck.

"Oh we walked to school together," Danny mumbled looking down at the ground.

"Danny, why are you walking to school with such a loser?" Ruby said kissing his check.

I rolled my eyes and walked off towards the main building. I wasn't going to stick around to be insulted.

I walked along the corridor past the notice board. Something bright and colourful caught my eye.

I stopped to look at the posters.

PROM NIGHT

21st of July

8pm – Midnight

Tickets on sale now from the gym at lunch time

I groaned and carried on walking. Great, prom was coming up. I've been dreading it for months. I've decided I'm not going. I'll never get a date so what's the point plus I don't want to have to watch Ruby and her stupid friends prancing around showing off all night making me feel worse about myself.

I reached my locker and pulled out my books I would need for my lessons today.

The first bell rang echoing through the corridor. I slammed my locker shut and hurried off to registration.

The classroom was already open and my tutor was already there sitting at her desk reading a gossip magazine. A couple of people were already sitting chatting in their seats. I walked to the back of the class and crashed in my seat. The rest of the class soon appeared and our tutor took the register. Then we were left to do what we wanted. I pulled out my notebook and a pen. If I have to sit here for the next twenty minutes then I'm going to do something useful. I flicked through my notebook and carried on from where I left off.

Anastasia pulled on her coat and hurried down the stairs. She didn't want to be late for school, so she could spend as much time with Daniel as she could.

"Anastasia, can I talk to you for a minute?" Anastasia's dad called from the living room.

Anastasia frowned and went into the living room. Her mum and dad were sitting on the sofa looking worried.

"Whatever you want to tell me can wait," she said, "I'm sorry, it's just I want to get to school as earlier as I can so I can see Daniel."

"Erm…this is kind of what we want to talk to you about," Anastasia's mum replied.

"What do you mean?" Anastasia asked worriedly.

"Your mother and I have been talking and we think maybe you and Daniel should spend some time apart," her dad answered.

"What are you getting at?" Anastasia asked horrified by the idea of not being with Daniel.

"We think you shouldn't see Daniel anymore," her mother replied sternly, "you two are much too serious, you spend every waking moment you have together."

"You can't keep us apart, we love each other!" Anastasia shouted suddenly on her feet.

She couldn't listen to another word her parents were saying. She was never going to be apart from Daniel. They were together every day and most of the night but her parents had no idea about that, Daniel had been climbing through her window every night for over a year now.

Anastasia grabbed her bag and stormed out of the house. She had to see Daniel.

The bell for the end of registration sounded. I shut my notebook quickly and shoved it into my bag. Everyone was on their feet heading out of the room towards their first lesson.

I shuffled along behind the crowd and made my way up the stairs to my history class. The lesson dragged by. The minutes seemed to tick by like hours. I wasn't really paying attention to what the teacher was talking about. I was off in my own little world. I do that a lot. The bell rang bringing me back to earth. I packed away my stuff and we all filed out of the classroom. My next class was maths so I made my way back to the stairwell. When I got to the landing of the first floor I felt something pull my arm amongst the crowd. I turned to see Ruby holding on to my jacket. I frowned at her and tried to pull myself free.

Ruby pulled me out of the crowd and pushed me against the wall. All the other students ignored us and carried on walking past.

"Stay away from my Danny," Ruby hissed digging her nails into my arm.

I winced in pain.

"Do I make myself clear?" Ruby said losing her grip.

"Crystal," I replied stepping away from her.

"Good," Ruby said smirking.

I turned away from her and suddenly something shoved me forwards. I was falling, my body crashing into every step as I tumbled down the stairs. I lay crumpled at the bottom of the stairwell. A sharp pain shot through my body.

I could hear Ruby laughing as she walked past me. The students who were now late for their next class passed by me laughing and pointing. I wasn't surprised nobody stopped to help. Nobody cared about me, I'm a loser and I always have been.

I knew the corridor must be empty by now. I tried to sit up but I couldn't, so I stayed where I was hoping my living nightmare would end.

Then I heard footsteps shuffled towards me.

"Anna? What happened?" said a familiar voice. It was a voice I didn't want to hear.

"Go away," I mumbled.

Two strong arms locked themselves around me pulling me up to my feet. Another pain shot through my body causing me to scream in pain.

"Anna, what the hell happened to you?" Danny asked supporting most of my weight.

"Ruby pushed me down the stairs," I replied trying to reduce the pain by standing as still as I could.

"Ruby did this to you?" Danny said clearly surprised.

"Yeah, shocker," I muttered sarcastically, "look just leave me alone Danny, your late for maths."

"I can't leave you now, you need to get to the medical room," Danny protested.

"Danny just go, your making this worse, I'm not going to give Ruby any more excuses to throw me down another flight of stairs," I said firmly pushing myself away from him.

"Anna, your being stupid, it was an accident, Ruby wouldn't do that to you," Danny replied shaking his head.

"Danny, this happens all the time, at least once a week, nobody cares or notices because they don't give a shit about me, they never have and probably never will. Just go and ignore me like everyone else, like you have for the past six years, it's better for both of us that way!" I shouted furiously.

"Anna, you could be seriously hurt, just let me take you to the medical room before it gets worse," Danny said tightening his grip on me.

I looked away from him but he just picked me up and carried me along the corridor and to the front offices where the medical room was.

He somehow got the door open and carried me in.

"What happened?" the nurse asked setting her book down on her desk.

"She fell down the stairs," Danny replied setting me down on bed that was set up for patients.

"Ok, where does it hurt?" the nurse asked me shining a light in my eyes.

I moved away from the light and a pain shot through my ribs and my left knee.

"My ribs and my left knee," I croaked wincing as the nurse prodded me.

Yeah I'm in pain so let's prod it and make it worse, stupid bat.

"Ok, you haven't broken anything," the nurse informed me, "but you will have some bad bruises and it will hurt for a week or so."

"Ok," I replied.

"I'll contact your parents, you need to go home and rest," the nurse said and went off to her office.

An awkward silence fell between me and Danny.

"Danny, please go," I said staring up at the ceiling.

"It's ok I'll stay," Danny replied moving closer to me.

"Please just go, I don't want to be near you ever again, I don't ever want to talk to you after today so just do me a favour for once in your life and stay away from me," I said fiercely.

"Ok fine, I'm out of here," Danny said and I heard his footsteps walking away from me and out of the room.

I sighed but then winced as a pain shot through my ribs again.

It didn't take long for my mother to turn up to collect me. I'm surprised she managed to drag herself away from work.

She took me home and lectured me about being more careful. I tuned most of it out.

Once I got home I took some painkillers and got into bed. My mum stayed with me for about five minutes and went back to work.

I couldn't sleep so I pulled out my notebook and finished my latest chapter.

Anastasia rushed through the crowds searching for Daniel. She fought back her tears from the hurtful words of her parents as she glanced across the school yard looking for her boyfriend.

Somebody tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and their stood Daniel.

She fell into his arms letting her tears run down her face.

"What's wrong love?" he asked hugging her tightly.

Anastasia told Daniel what her parents had said to her.

"Don't worry about them, nothing will brake us apart, I love you," Daniel said kissing Anastasia softly.

Anastasia suddenly tensed up and moved away from Daniel.

"I think they're right," she whispered as fresh tears flowed down her face.

"What?" Daniel gasped.

"I don't want anything to do with you anymore, please don't make this difficult, just leave me alone," Anastasia said firmly backing away. She turned and ran leaving Daniel standing on his own confused and hurt.

I shut my notebook and chucked it onto the floor next to my bed.

I managed to get a few hours sleep but when I woke up there was a knock on my door.

"Come in," I called. It's probably my mum. She should be home from work by now.

My door opened and in stepped a familiar blue eyed curly haired guy.

"I thought I told you to stay away from me," I said fuming. I wouldn't be surprised if steam was coming out of my ears.

"You said, that you didn't want to see me after today," Danny replied calmly looking at his watch, "I still have eight hours."

"I want you to go," I said turning away from him.

"I brought you some grapes," Danny continued cheerfully clearly ignoring my wishes.

"That was nice of you," I mutter sarcastically.

"Do you really want me to go?" Danny asked.

"Yes," I replied firmly.

"Ok I'll go, I'll leave you alone, I just wanted to say goodbye," Danny said quietly.

I turned to face him. He was standing in my doorway.

"Goodbye," I said softly.

"Bye, I'll see you around," Danny replied. He turned and walked out of my room shutting the door behind him.

I turned out my light and laid in the dark.

I let the tears slide down my cheeks. There was nobody to see me cry.

I open my eyes
I try to see but I'm blinded by the white light
I can't remember how
I can't remember why
I'm lying here tonight

And I can't stand the pain
And I can't make it go away
No I can't stand the pain

How could this happen to me
I made my mistakes
I've got no where to run
The night goes on
As I'm fading away
I'm sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me?

Everybody's screaming
I try to make a sound but no one hears me
I'm slipping off the edge
I'm hanging by a thread
I wanna start this over again

So I try to hold onto a time when nothing mattered
And I can't explain what happened
And I can't erase the things that I've done
No I can't

How could this happen to me?
I made my mistakes
I've got no where to run
The night goes on
As I'm fading away
I'm sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me?
