When morning hit, Shadow had returned a bit earlier than normal to check on her. She was passed out cold on her bed, breathing softly. He slid over the window sill and shut the window behind him. He walked straight into the bathroom and washed up, then when he was done he came back out to see her still asleep. He looked at her clock. Her alarm was going to go off soon. He made his way over to her bed, sitting to her side as he slid the back of her shirt up. It had been a few days since he had bandaged her, so now he was just checking on her wound. His hand creeped up the back of her pajama top to look at the wrapping. It was starting to loosen. He grimaced and undid the wrapping, but his hands stopped moving and his eyes widened when he saw the entire wound was gone. He looked at the hedgehogs head. 'What the hell are you?'
She moaned underneath him, arching slightly against the warmth of his hand. He smirked and pulled his hand back as he pulled the covers back over her. Just then, there was a knock at her door and he jumped. Quickly he slid under her bed as her green eyes fluttered open. She sat up and yawned. "Who is it?" She asked a bit loudly.
"It's Sally. Major Silver wishes to speak with you."
Amy blinked. "Okay!" She thought to herself, 'That's weird that Silver wants to see me.'
'Well, it's not surprising, considering how much he flirts with you.' her scythe commented as it popped out, 'you should doll yourself up.'
Shadow felt a vein pop from under the bed. Silver? Flirting with Amy?
"I guess you're right. But it's probably just business and work stuff." Amy put her uniform on, then combed her hair really quick. She grabbed her keys and walked towards the door, turning her eyes to look around the room, "Weird, Shadow hasn't come back yet..." She whispered as she closed the door behind her.
Amy knocked on Silver's door. "Um, Silver, it's Amy." She heard him yell a come in then turned the knob and pushed the door open. He turned in his desk chair to face her and gave her a wink and a smile. "Good morning Amy, how are you?"
"I'm doing okay, how about yourself?" She asked. She smoothed out her work skirt and sat in a nearby chair.
"I'm good, I'm good." He followed her figure to the chair, "I suppose you want to know why I called you in here right?"
Amy nodded, "That was the plan, I think?"
"Yeah well. Obviously you know you're a soul worker, but seeing as how you tend to be a bit... timid... on the battle field, we're going to have you doing something a bit simpler instead."
"Like...?"
"Like changing the dress gowns on the injured, and changing the beddings, stuff like that." He gave her a sweet smile that she wanted to slap off his face.
"I... I don't know if..." Amy recalled the conversation she had with Vanilla. Wouldn't this be a waste of her abilities?
"Well, if this doesn't suit you, you can go back out in the field and fight monsters." He wiggled his eyes at her amusingly and she jumped at the thought of getting another scratch from one of those eight legged monsters.
"Ah, no, I'm not complaining... it's just..." Amy rubbed the back of her head nervously. Just then, Silver's phone went off. He eyed Amy then sighed and reached for his phone, flipping it open as he pressed it to his ear, "Silver here."
"Major Silver, something terrible has happened!"
"What is it?" Amy couldn't quite hear what was going on on the other end, but she noticed Silver's eyebrows narrow and his eyes fill with worry as he spoke.
"A monster mob has assembled at the abandoned train station site."
"I thought we eliminated them all." Silver spoke a bit quieter."What about the members of that childs search party? Blaze and another group had gone back out there again this morning."
"We lost contact. The last thing we heard was that Blaze had found the child this morning."
"Blaze went back there again? Geez... this doesn't sound good."
"We have to save them! There's no time to lose!"
"We don't have hardly any troops! We lost too many in that rescue mission."
At his words, Amy felt a ping of guilt hit her stomach. He was talking about her. She remembered Vanilla's words. It was true. Their lives would be in vein if she just sat on the side lines. She stood up quickly and looked at Silver.
"Let me go."
Silver eyed her up and down, surprised by her new found confidence, "Are... you sure?"
Amy nodded. He held the phone up to his ear, "I'll send someone." Then hung up. He looked Amy dead in the eye.
"Amy, you're still a novice. Are you sure you want to go out there?"
"All those people died trying to rescue me, the least I can do is help prevent more people from dying. Even if it costs me my own life." Silver stepped closer to her, and she tensed up.
"You just woke up, it's too soon!" Silver argued.
"People sacraficed themselves for me!" Her eyes flashed a bit of purple, surprising him a bit as he jumped back, "If I can't do it, then what did all those people who died for me risk their lives for!?"
"But I don't want to send you to certain death." He grasped her arm, scaring her a bit, "I don't want to make another mistake like that again."
"I'm not asking you for permission, major." Amy replied coldly. "Let me make this decision for myself."
It was silent. Amy could see Silver was fighting an internal battle with himself so she kept talking, "Let me go save Blaze and the others. Yes, I'm still afraid and yeah, I'm still not sure what I'm capable of. But I have to think about the others. I want to save Blaze, the one who saved me."
Silver pulled her closer into a quick and tense hug, which she returned. "I know I'm not good enough yet. But please leave it to me anyway, Silver. I'm stronger than most other people... let me do it."
He sighed into her pink quills, "I guess... I can't stop you if you really want to go." He breathed into her ear, "But no matter what happens, you know now that you must be held accountable for your actions." With that, he pulled away from her as he strode out the door. He stopped once he was outside and looked back at her, "Please... come back alive." Then he was gone down the hallway.
Amy summoned her soul weapon and smirked, she was going to kick ass today.
Amy jumped out of her vehicle and out into the entrance of the abandoned train station. Silver was on her headset, just barely audible.
"Checking for Blaze's vital energy."
'Please, be safe and alive, Blaze.' Amy thought to herself.
There were black spiders and wolves with beady red eyes waiting for her at the entrance. She quickly ran forward, her scythe slashing their legs and bodies, as they vanished into black smoke. She beat them quickly and ran inside the old building, heading towards the train tracks. There were more waiting for her. She attacked quickly and strategically, which was a side of her she had never seen before today. Once that area was clear, she stopped for a moment to regain her breathing. That was when a black wolf rammed her from behind, flinging her forward. She was tossed to the side and rolled along the ground before coming to a stop. She forced herself up slowly.
'Shit that hurt.'
She raised up her scythe, and lunged at it at the same time it dove for her. She slid under him her scythe ripping down its stomach and cutting it open. It howled in pain before vanishing into another puff of smoke. She walked a little forward and saw a bit of an abandone small shack. She approached it quietly, Silver coming into her headset again.
"I'm reading a strong energy. Be careful."
All of a sudden the building exploded, and Blaze flew in front of her and collided with a wall. Amy's eyes widened, "Blaze!"
"Hung!..." The cat slid down the wall, hunched over in pain. She looked up at Amy weakly. "You're here...?" Amy glared at the attacker that emerged from the shack. It was a white wolf with dark purple engravings. It was much bigger than the other wolves. It howled and ran for the two of them.
"How dare you..." Amy mumbled. She raised up her scythe and went head on with the beast. Blaze watched with wonder as Amy appeared and then reappeared behind the wolf multiples times, slashing it in different places. First she took out its back legs, then its front legs. It tried to keep standing, but Amy was slashing at criticial points. Then its neck, its spine, its side, more and more Amy just kept cutting it as she screamed. She jump up, then swung her scythe straight down, the blade going through its back and all the way out its stomach. It howled once more in death, and collapsed on the ground. Blaze looked at Amy again, and was surprised her eyes were glowing purple. Then the beast started vomiting black liquids from it's mouth, until a bright purple ball came out. Amy watched in shock as the wolf disappeared, and then the ball of light turned into a child. Blaze managed to stand up and started to walk over, "That's... t-the="
The child looked up at Amy, still glowing purple, it reached it's hand out to her. Amy bent down, the child looked like... her own reflection? Amy let her hand touch the child's hand, and soon the entire room was enveloped in a bright purple light. Amy's eyes widened as more strength filled up her body, "What... is this?"
The light dimmed, and Blaze watched as Amy, who was now foating in the air, was being filled with more of the purple light. Then the light disappeared, and Amy sunk to the floor as her eyes closed. "Amy!" Blaze walked over to her, "Hey, Amy!"
Amy's eyes fluttered open as she sat up, looking at Blaze worriedly. "Y-Yeah?"
"H-How did you..." Blaze muttered. She pulled Amy's communicator off and put it on, "Silver! Did you get all that?"
"Nice to see you too kitty, and yeah... that energy. There's no mistakening it. That was total pure soul worker energy. I will register her as an official soul worker right now."
Blaze grasped onto Amy's hands, "Amazing! I never thought I'd get to see the day when a soul workers ascended to the next part of their stage!"
"My head hurts... what happened? Did I eat that child?" Amy scratched her head, a bit confused.
"Amy, something incredible just happened to you." Blaze said excitedly. "When the child touched your hand, that light came out of her and-"
"Can we talk about it in a more safer place? Before those monsters come back?" Amy asked with a giggle.
Blaze nodded, "Yeah of course..."
They had been told to go back to their quarters, and they would explain everything to Amy the next day. She sighed and walked into her room. It was empty, go figure. She grabbed some shorts and a tight tshirt and some panties, and walked into her bathroom. She turned the water on and stepped into it as the warm water hit her skin. She leaned against the wall. So many things had happened today. Silver had gotten close to her, and she didn't know how she felt about it. Then there was this "ascending" thing that she wasn't going to be able to know about until the morning after. And then she killed a huge gigantic wolf. And ate a child. She was wondering if something even more exciting would happen, or if things would just cool down for a bit.
She stepped out of the shower and combed out her pink quills before slipping into her clothes. Just as she opened the door to her bathroom to leave it, Shadow was crawling in through the window. She jumped in surprise when he looked up at her. Then he quickly looked away, feelings of envy from this morning still not gone. She gave him a weird look. "What?" She asked.
"Nothing. How was your day?" He asked nonchalantly as he avoided eye contact. She looked away also, "It was... different." She made her way to her bed and slid under her covers. "I ate a child."
His ears perked up and he looked a bit sickened, "What?"
"A child touched me, then she was embodied in a ray of light, and then the light went inside me." She peaked up at him and patted the empty space next to her. He thought for a moment before sitting far away from her on the other side of the bed. She smiled, "So. Yeah. Other than that, nothing exciting."
"Silver flirting with you isn't exciting?" He asked quietly. Her ears perked up. What did he just say?"
"Silver... flirting with me?" Amy asked, "Is that what you said?"
"Forget it. This is stupid." He got up to leave but she grabbed his wrist, preventing him from leaving.
"No, what did you just say. What about Silver flirting with me?"
"Nothing Rose, let me go."
She proceeded to yank him down to her level, causing him to fall onto the bed into close proximity over her. Her green eyes glittered with mischief, "Tell me."
He gulped and forced his eyes away, "I just... overheard your soul weapon talking about how Silver flirts with you... and then... I heard Silver sounding like he was worried about you this morning... and I saw you two..." He trailed off. She sat up quickly and smirked.
"Shadow, were you spying and eavesdropping on me all day?"
"Wha- me? No. I don't do stuff like that." He lied as he turned from her and crossed his arms. She smiled and rested her head on the back of his shoulder, "Silver flirts with me, so what? Why do you care?"
"I don't." He huffs.
"Then, if you don't care, then why bring it up?"
"Because I..." He was growing frustrated with this. "It's ... nevermind. Forget it."
"Shadow, it's okay to be-"
"Stop! I said drop it!" He turned and glared at her as he yelled, causing her to jump. She puffed her cheeks out and glared at him back. Her mouth moving faster than her brain.
"Fine Mr. Jealous Pants! Maybe if you flirted with me more I'd like you as much as I do Silver!" She quickly turned her back to him as she slipped back under her covers and shoved a pillow on top of her head. Her face was red as she covered her mouth. His face showed shock.
"EXCUSE YOU ROSE, I am PERFECTLY capable of flirting with women who I ACTUALLY like and find worthy of my flirting."
She shot right up and shot him a glare, clearly offended. "Are you saying I'm not worthy of your flirting?!"
He smirked at her, "Jealous Rose?"
She turned red out of anger, "You know what? Get out." She pointed at the window. "I was trying to be nice but I'm done. Leave."
He stared back at her, "Pfft, yeah right. You won't make me leave."
"Wanna bet?" She glared. He smirked, before turning and pushing her back down roughly onto her mattress. She squeaked as he pinned her wrists down and tickled her neck with his nose.
"Here, make me leave."
But oh god she couldn't. She couldn't help but give in at his scent and his warmth. And god he was handsome. And his lips were right by her neck. Oh god, someone help her. Instead, she gave in and wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down so that they were closer. She would get her revenge. She leaned up and bit on his ear, emitting a low growl from him. Her hands pulled at the tuff of fur of his chest teasingly, and she whispered into his ear, "Fine, then stay."
And for him, he couldn't let his instincts win. This damn tease! He would have to leave now, or they would both suffer the consequences that would follow the morning after. "Fine Rose. You win this round. But next time, I won't be holding back." He bit her neck lightly, an action that caused her to jump and then he was gone.
She laid there on the bed with a stupid grin on her face, and fell asleep to her soul weapon giving her a lecture about love and not to be stupid and fall in love blindly. But hell, she couldn't help it.
