Chapter 3: Yuuki's curse
'She kissed him in front of me. She'll die, I'll kill her.' Zero thought to himself. "So we're alone for today." Kaname said with a smile as he heard Yuuki close the front door shut. "Yes, yes we are." Zero said and mentally smirked. Kaname's smile slowly turned into a smirk while Zero continued smiling innocently while he tilted his head to the side.

"Well! Let's clean this up then we can play a game of shogi and I'll cut the watermelon I bought yesterday. Kaname said as he stood up and gathered the dirty plates. Zero sighed and started washing the dishes. There was a pregnant silence as they cleaned the kitchen. The slight clinging of the dishes was heard as Zero washed the dishes. "Hey Kaname? What do you think of a parrot?" Zero asked as he wiped his hand with a clean cloth. "A parrot? Colourful I guess? Why?" Kaname tilted his head a bit.
"I've always wanted one as a pet. Preferably a pink one. Should I have one? I've always wanted one as a kid but my mom was scared of it since it could talk and thought that it was a nuisance since we have to feed it and everything." Zero said as he looked at the ground with a pout on his face.
Kaname smiled. "Sure, we could go to a pet store and get one for you right now. But I don't think they have pink parrots." Kaname chuckled and Zero blushed. "I'll go get my wallet." Zero mumbled with a beet red face and Kaname laughed. "I'll wait outside."
Zero went to his dresser and took his wallet and kept it in his long sleeves. "A parrot that can imitate whatever a person says huh? I'll definitely make good use of this parrot." Zero thought with an evil smirk and went to Kaname.
Zero walked a step behind Kaname with a blush on his face as he looked at the ground the whole journey to the pet store. As they walked, many men that looked their way would either blush or make rude and perverted comments that were directed to Zero. "Look at that hot silverette there, I'd totally hit on that." Zero twitched as he heard that, he knew Kaname heard it too. "With that innocent looks, I bet he's a virgin, and a really tight one too." Zero did not notice this, but Kaname was slightly affected by their comments and started imagining both him and Zero in that situation. 'It's rude of them to say that. Zero's mine!' He thought angrily and paused. "Zero's mine? Zero's only a friend, I'm getting married to Yuuki. What's wrong with me?' He thought to himself and shook his head a little.
"It'll be great to have him panting and moaning your name under you as you make a mess of him don't you think so?" A group of men said as they checked Zero out. Zero smirked mentally as he continued looking like the innocent virgin he was. 'Don't you want me panting and moaning under you Kaname?' Zero thought to himself.
He pretended to be scared and held onto Kaname's arm slightly. Kaname noticed how 'uncomfortable' Zero looked from those comments and curled his arm around Zero's to comfort him.
But honestly, Zero couldn't give a damn about those people, he could easily bring those guys down with an arm without breaking a sweat, but Kaname didn't need to know that. But no matter, how strong Zero was, Kaname was stronger, and Zero found that really attractive because not many people could outbeat him. "Ignore them Zero, let's go." Kaname murmured to Zero. Zero nodded and continued walking.
"Ahh, it seems he's taken. Lucky bastard." One of the men said. "I'm pretty sure Silver over there keeps him satisfied every night. I swear, good looking people has more advantage in life. Life's unfair." They said and walked away.
"Don't let these kind of people bother you with their comments Zero. I'll protect you don't worry." Kaname murmured. "Protect me? I could run away from them. I'm quick on my feet. You've got Yuuki to protect remember?" Zero smiled at him and released the hold on his arm. "Y-Yeah you're right. I should protect Yuuki." Kaname stuttered a while then walked to the entrance of the pet store.
"It seems you can't even remember who you need to protect at this point. All due time Kaname, you'll be mine as I'll be yours." Zero murmured and walked into the store.
"Gyahhh!" Zero shouted when he was caught off guard with an opened container filled of worms that was right next to him when he entered the shop. Both Kaname and the shopkeeper chuckled when they saw this. "It's okay Zero, they are just worms." Kaname said as he patted Zero's shoulder. He peeped slightly at the container of worms and shivered when he saw how they were gliding on each other and EWWW! It was disgusting. 'Gahh I hate worms the most!' Zero thought to himself and he was honestly afraid this time, he was not pretending. "Why are they out here just like that?" Zero asked Kaname as he held on his yukata.
The shopkeeper stood next to them and replied him. "These worms are for sale. They are used as fishing baits. We put it out here so it'll be more convenient for the fishermen to purchase this." The old shop keeper said politely with a small smile.
"So how may I help you today?" The shopkeeper asked. "Yes, we are looking for a parrot. Do you have them on sale?" Kaname asked as he patted Zero's hand that was still shivering. "Oh yes, we have one that just arrived yesterday. If you'll follow me, I'll take you there." The shopkeeper said and turned and walked down the corridor. Zero did not release his hold on Kaname as he walked through the corridor that was filled with big lizards that we in their glass cages. Zero suddenly jumped and hid behind Kaname quivering when he saw a snake in its glass cage. Kaname tilted his head and patted his back in a comforting manner. "What's wrong?" Kaname asked gently. "I have snake phobia. A snake bit me when I was a child." Zero said as he shivered.
Kaname hugged him tighter and murmured to Zero's ear. "It's okay Zero. I'm here." He said gently and comfortingly as he rubbed and patted his back. They continued walking right to the back of the store and the shopkeeper looked apologetic. "It seems mister here doesn't like reptiles very much. I'm sorry, I should have used the other way around here instead of walking through the reptiles section." He scratched his head a little.
"It's okay sir. He's fine now." Kaname said and chuckled when Zero beamed at the parrot in front of them. "Though it's not pink, but I still love it a lot!" Zero said as he wriggled his finger to the parrot. The red coloured parrot blinked its eyes as he stared at Zero and tilted his head to the side. "Hi, my name is Zero~" Zero cooed to it. The parrot blinked for a few more seconds and said. "Hi, my name is Zero. Hi my name is Zero." The parrot imitated monotonously. Zero squealed when it imitated him. "Nice to see you." It said and rubbed its feather with its beak.
"Oh yes, I taught him to say nice to see you to everyone. You just keep repeating it and he'll learn." The shopkeeper said as he opened the big parrot cage and it flew a little and landed on his arm. "Its so smart!" Zero rubbed its head a little and it just kept blinking its eyes at him with a tilted head. "It's adorable isn't it Zero?" Kaname chuckled when he saw how happy Zero was. "Yes it is! I want him!" Zero said excitedly like a child with bright eyes.
"Okay sir, it seems like we made the decision. So how much is this fellow?" Kaname asked hoping to get a good price. The shopkeeper smiled. "You both seem like a happy couple. So I'll give you a 20% discount." The shopkeeper said with a smile. 'A couple? Do we really look like a couple?' Kaname thought to himself but kept quiet. They were getting a discount now. "Really sir?! Thank you so much!" Zero said and saw that Kaname was already handing the money to the shopkeeper. "No Kaname, why are you paying for me? It'll be a waste to spend it on me. You've always been saving your money." Zero said sadly.
"I save money so that I can make you happy by spoiling you a little from time to time." Kaname chuckled. "No, I won't allow it. We'll half it okay? I won't let you claim full ownership on my precious parrot. Hmph!" Zero said as he crossed his arms. "Okay Zero." Kaname smiled gratefully. 'Claiming full ownership? He just doesn't want me spending money on him. My Zero is so considerate of my feelings.' Kaname thought to himself and paused. 'Mine? Again? I have Yuuki.' Kaname thought to himself.
They both paid the shopkeeper. "The cage is free of charge." He said and smiled at them kindly. "Thank you so much sir!" Zero beamed. "No problem. The parrot can drink normal tap water and eats vegetables and fruits. I'd recommend you give the carrot more vegetables because of the high sugar content in fruits. Other than that, he should be fine." He said. "Thank you sir." They both said and walked away.
"I'm backkkk!" Yuuki sang from the front door and gasped when she saw the parrot. "Awww, why's there a parrot here? It's so colourful!" She then cooed at it. "Hey Yuuki, welcome back." Kaname said and they pecked on the lips. Yuuki giggled and hugged Kaname. "Zero always wanted a parrot so we bought one today." Kaname said as he watched the parrot mind its own business.
"Oh hey Yuuki, you're back." Zero walked into the living room and smiled. "Hey Zero! So what's he's name?" Yuuki asked as she cooed at it. "Zero named him Puri-chan. He totally spoilt its exquisiteness with that name." Kaname laughed and Zero playfully glared at Kaname. "Oh it's cute! Hey Puri-chan~" Yuuki cooed at it. "Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you." Puri said monotonously. "He'll remember what you say, and will then imitate you again." Zero said as he opened the door of the cage and allowed the parrot to step on his arm. "Isn't that right Puri-chan~" Zero then cooed at it. Puri just tilted its head and blinked at Zero. "You should keep talking, it'll be more fun that way." Zero said with a slight smirk and went to his room and locked it.
Zero sat the bird down next to him as he takes out a piece of paper and prepares his calligraphy brush and black ink. He took out a small piece of paper that he got from the old lady from his pocket and smirked. 'This spell would definitely change Kaname's perspective of our dear Yuuki.' Zero thought to himself and recopied every word from the paper. After he was done, he lighted a small flame and burnt the small piece of paper to get rid of any evidence of his plan.
He then took a small knife and pricked his finger and let a few drops of blood drip onto the paper that he wrote on. He smirked and sucked his finger to stop the blood and burnt that piece of paper and dropped it onto a small bowl of water. He looked into the bowl and there were only ashes from the burnt paper. He smirked and turned to Puri. "Hey Puri-chan, you should drink this. Just a little is fine." Zero smiled at the parrot and held the small bowl of water right under Puri. Puri just blinked at him and placed its beak into the bowl of water and drank a little. "Now that's a good boy." Zero said and patted its head. After Puri was done, he looked up at Zero and tilted its head at him. Zero took a piece of grape and held it up for him. He started pecking on the grape slowly and eventually finished the whole grape.
He allowed Puri to rest onto his arm and he stood up and went to the living room where Kaname and Zero were. Just as he got there, Kaname and Yuuki were kissing each other passionately. They both realised Zero was there and pulled apart with Yuuki panting slightly with a huge blush on her face. Kaname looked slightly disturbed when he saw Zero, was it because he didn't want to be interrupted or was it because he felt like he got caught doing something he wasn't supposed to do? Zero felt his heart break a little when he saw them kiss so passionately. Tears gathered a little into his eyes but he willed them in. No, he shouldn't cry.
"Oops, I'm sorry I walked in on you both. But Kaname, you should take a bath now since I'm already done." Zero said with a smile on his face. "Oh yes I should. Zero could you take over and cook? I'll take a bath now." Kaname said and walked away. "Sure sure." Zero said as he placed the bird into the cage and walked to the kitchen. "Don't try adding stuff into the soup Yuuki! I know you'll do it to make it 'taste' better." Zero said as he playfully smack her head. "Hehe, sorry." Yuuki said and stood next to Zero as he stirred the soup.
After a few moments of silence, Zero glanced at Puri who was busy scratching his back with its beak, he then spoke. "Hey Yuuki, can I ask you something?" Zero asked seriously. "Yes?" She asked innocently as she looked up with Zero with her huge brown eyes. "Do you want to know who I've been in love with since my childhood?" Zero asked softly as he continued stirring the soup. "Hmmm.. do I know her?" Yuuki asked excitedly. After a few moments later, Zero finally spoke. "It's not a her Yuuki, it's a him." "Ohh I see! It's that why you never told us who you liked the whole time? We won't judge you just because you like a male Zero. So you can always tell us your feelings." Yuuki said as she placed a comforting hand on Zero's arm.
"Okay Yuuki, I'll tell you who I love. It's Kaname." Zero said softly going straight to the point as he added a pinch of salt into the soup. Yuuki was looking at Zero with wide eyes. She could feel her heart drop to her stomach and shivered a little. "You're kidding right? Kaname's my fiancée." Yuuki asked quietly. "No I'm not kidding Yuuki. I've loved him since I met him, and I met him before you. I made a mistake Yuuki. My mistake was not telling him how I feel about him. Just when I decided I would, you came along and snatched him away. Do you know how I felt this whole time I see you guys together? Do you know how my heart hurts every time I see you both kiss, hug, or even hold hands?" Zero asked as tears started pouring down his face.
Yuuki stared at him with wide eyes, not believing a word she was hearing. "B-but Zero, you gave us your blessings." Yuuki asked her voice shivering. "I didn't have a choice at that matter. I didn't want Kaname to hate me." Zero said and glared at Yuuki as tears kept falling. Yuuki felt scared when she saw his infamous glare directed to her. "I won't forgive you Yuuki. I despise you and I've always hated you Yuuki, and I hope you die in the most painful way possible. You may be pretty, but I won't lose to you." Zero said as he poured the soup into three bowls and served it at the table.
Zero wiped his tears with his sleeve and took a seat. He knew his eyes were still red but he ignored it, knowing that Kaname would notice it later.
Kaname walked in all fresh and happy. "Wow, it smells great. Let's eat." Kaname said happily. "Come on Yuuki, what are you doing just standing there? Sit." Zero said kindly but his voice quivered. Kaname noticed this and tilted his head a little.
"O-Oh yeah, okay," Yuuki said and stiffly sat at her seat. "Hmm, smells good. Let's dig in!" Kaname said, not really noticing the extreme tense atmosphere. "So you had a great time with Yori today?" Kaname asked Yuuki happily. "Y-yeah, I did. We shopped a little and had some ice cream." Yuuki said as she dug into her rice. Kaname nodded approvingly and turned to look at Zero who looked like he would cry. "Hey Zero what's wr-" Kaname asked but on cue, Puri started talking monotonously.
"I despise you and I've always hated you Zero, and I hope you die. You may be pretty, but I won't lose to you. Always hated you Zero, hope you die in the most painful way possible." Puri said monotonously. Kaname's eyes widen and immediately turned to look at Puri who just ignored him and scratched its back with its beak. He then turned around and stared at Zero, who started crying and sobbing. "This parrot will only imitate people; does that mean you said that just now Yuuki?" Kaname asked Yuuki not believing his ears. Yuuki was wide eyes and stared at Zero disbelievingly who was sobbing quietly to himself with his hands covering his face. "What?! No! I didn't say that!" Yuuki said as tears started pooling at her eyes.
"Stop lying Yuuki. The parrot is prove enough. If you didn't say that, why would the parrot repeat it?" Kaname said with angrily. "I can't believe my ears. Zero has been nothing but kind to you. And you actually cursed him that way." Kaname said coldly with equally cold eyes. "S-Stop Kaname, it's not her fault she feels this way. I'll just go and-" Zero said and was standing up when Kaname shouted. "Sit Zero. It's not your fault." Kaname said sternly and Zero immediately sat at his spot.
"BUT I DIDN'T SAY THAT! IT WAS-!" Yuuki shouted with tears falling as she pointed at Zero who had his head down and looking very innocent and vulnerable. "No Yuuki, I'm very disappointed with you Yuuki." Kaname said sadly. Yuuki then stood up and ran out of the house sobbing.
Zero continued crying and Kaname just pulled him into a tight hug. "I-It was so scary, w-when she said that to me. Sh-she wasnts me to d-die Kaname. Why did she say that? I didn't do any-anything wrong" Zero said in muffled sobs in Kaname's chest and sobbed louder. "Shhh, it's okay Zero. We'll solve this. Stop crying ne?" Kaname said gently and wiped his tears away for him.
"A smile looks better on you. So stop crying okay?" Zero nodded his head with a small pout on his face. Kaname couldn't resist and kissed him on the forehead. Zero blushed a deep red and nuzzled his cheek onto Kaname, who held him tighter. Zero then smirked evilly when Kaname patted his head. 'This is how it should be Yuuki. Get in my way, and you'll regret it.' Zero thought to himself as he looked up at Kaname innocently who laughed and kissed his nose.
