Rise of ignitus

Chapter 3: disaster

I had awaken, to the sound of my father bursting out the door. It was pitch black, and the air had a sort of musk to it. Like nothing I had ever smelled before. I arose from my bed, and walked down the corridor, leading to the main room of the house. And on the walls, were paintings of family members, some I didn't even know. And there at the end of the hallway, I saw my family portrait. It was me as a younger child, happy and always full of smiles. And on my left, was my father who had looked as strong and proud as ever. On my right, was my mother who looked down on me with a loving smile. This was the family that everyone deserved, a family that everyone would love and cherish. And best of all, this was my family. And I wasn't sure why, but I had a sudden urge, a undeniable longing to hold the portrait, and to never let it go. As if I could only see it one last time, and I wanted to steal it. I lifted my paw up to grab it, but I realized that my actions were completely unnecessary. For it was a part of my home, I will see it every day. So I continued on, to try and find the source of the banging sound and the musky smell in the air. But why I wondered, had I felt so contempt to take the portrait. And the reason, I hadn't yet known.

And so I reached the front door, this was defiantly what made the loud banging sound. The wood had a certain sound that nothing in my house could ever copy. But why had it been closed with such force? Before I investigated further, I decide to find out the easy way, and ask my mother. I looked around until I reached her room. There was a note on her bed, I said;

"I've gone out for a late night walk, should be back before midnight.

Do not go outside or do anything you know you shouldn't "

I looked at the grandfather clock, and I was unnerved to see that it was three in the morning. This only made me want to investigate further even more. I went outside, dead silence, not even the sounds of nature could be heard.

This chilled me more than anything ever had. The sense of being alone was never so strong. I walked around town, still no sign of life, only silence and darkness. Then I realized, that the familiar musky smell, still surrender the air around me. The smell made my throat scratchy, I could barley contains my coughs. Then, a sound from behind startled me, only slightly. I turned, but saw nothing, so I listened as hard as I could. It sounded like a group of dragons running, and getting closer. Normally, I would've been worried, but I was just happy to hear a sound. The first one who came into my sight was my father, alongside him was my mother, the look of panic on their faces. Then behind them were members of our military. Then it hit me, they were running away from something, something bad. I always thought our military was the strongest, and most power of all. And to think of what could make them run with such haste, was terrifying. Then I could tell by the expression on my father's face, that I had come into his vicinity. His eyes met mine, and I knew we were equally terrified. Though I saw nothing, I knew something was coming, something terrible. My mother and father ran towards me.

"Ignitus!" my father screamed.

And then, right when he was only about twelve feet away from me, it happened. A ball of fire fell fast out of the sky and landed in front of my father and me, then exploded like some form of bomb. Shooting fire and ash into every direction, it was closer to me then it was to my father. The force flew me back several feet. I screamed in agony, I had very server burns on my front legs, neck and left side of my face. The pain was unreal, like nothing I had ever experienced. The flash from the fire ball was so bright, and I was blond for a moment or two, I couldn't get up. i could hear my mother and father struggling in vain to reach me. It sounded like they were fighting something, or a whole army. And my eyelids fell, forcing me into an incapacitated state.

I woke up, still in pain and stiff. It was daytime, but it was raining. The water felt great on my fresh and terrible burns. The pleasure only lasted a moment, when the memories of the things that happened only hours ago, rushed to meet me. I forces myself up, and though the fire had cauterized my burns, blood still founds its way out of my body. I searched for my parents, drenched in water and blood that I was certain wasn't just mine. The struggle to walk was nearly to great, I was reduced to a limping state. Then, I saw a sight that hurt even more then my burns ever could. My mother, she was lying on the ground, there was more blood on her then there was on me. She had deep cuts all over her body, and one of her wings has completely cut off. The horror killed me inside, oh how I hated to see her this way. My limping state changed into a full throttle sprint. I ran to meet her, and once I did I kneeled down close to her. Tear running down my face and the taste of blood in my saliva.

"mother?...mother please" I said desperately, with no response
