New school year

"Logan! Now hurry up," Carlos called impatiently. Two seconds later, he heard his brother answer, "I'm coming." At the same moment he appeared. In one hand he held two crutches. He looked at Carlos with a mixture of amusement and confusion. "Tell me, what's wrong with you? Since when are you so looking forward to school?"

"Kendall told me that the first day of school after the summer vacation is always totally relaxed. I don't want to miss this fun," Carlos explained and went to the front door. Logan turned to his mother. "Too bad that this enthusiasm for the school will be so brief."

Sylvia laughed and nodded. Then she hugged Logan goodbye. "Have a lot of fun. And take care of yourself."

"Sure," Logan answered responsibly, following his brother outside.

"Bye Mom," Carlos shouted and waved to her.

For the first few minutes, they walked silently side by side. Carlos watched Logan out of the corner of his eye. He had learned quickly in recent weeks to handle the crutches. At home he didn't need crutches at all. Which was probably because Logan knew every inch of the house. However, he walked slower without crutches.

"Everything okay, Logan? Or should I wear your backpack?"

Logan smiled. "No thanks. Everything is alright."

"Man, I'm looking forward to seeing the others again. Kendall, James, Jo, and Camille, of course."

"Yes," Logan said slowly, "me too."

Carlos grinned. "What do you mean exactly? Camille or the others?"

Logan laughed. "Both."

They arrived at the school and saw James and Jo waving at them. They greeted each other and began to talk about their holidays. Until Carlos said, "Hey, there's Kendall."

Everyone turned around. Kendall waved and smiled. However, he was alone. Logan looked around, frowning. No, Camille was not here. Kendall hugged Jo and kissed her and greeted the boys with a high-five. They continued their conversation until Logan finally couldn't stand it anymore and asked, "Hey Kendall, where's Camille?"

Kendall shrugged. "Well, when I wanted to pick her up earlier, Marc told me she wasn't feeling well."

Before Logan could answer, James asked, "But if Camille's sick, who will help you to take care of the new students?"

Kendall looked at Jo questioningly. "Do you want to help me?"

Jo nodded. "Sure."

It rang and the others said goodbye to Kendall and Jo and went into the building. Carlos patted Logan sympathetically on the shoulder. "Sorry, man."

Logan nodded but said nothing. He thought. He thought that Kendall's voice had sounded strange when he said that Camille was ill. Logan looked at his cell phone, but he hadn't received either a call or a message from Camille. Why hadn't she told him?

The lessons began. Miss Collins greeted them and began explaining to them what would happen in this new / last year. Some of it were commented with loud grunts, others with obvious joy. However, the greatest enthusiasm was when Miss Collins mentioned the word "prom". Logan wasn't particularly interested. Thoughtfully, he stared at Camille's chair and wondered what was wrong with her.

He tried to call her during the break, but only reached the mailbox, which made him even more frustrated. He wished he could talk to Kendall, but there was no sign of him or Jo.

After two more hours they were allowed to leave. On leaving, they met Kendall and Jo. Jo said goodbye quickly because she had an appointment. James suggested they could go to the skate park and Carlos and Kendall agreed enthusiastically.

"Logan, are you coming with us?" Carlos asked, but Logan shook his head. "No, I'll go to Camille."

"Okay, let's go then," James said, moving. Carlos followed him. Kendall took a few steps, hesitated, and then stopped. "I'll be right there," he called to them, turning to Logan. "Okay, maybe that doesn't mean anything. But when I was at Camille this morning, Marc was very strange. He also seemed pretty tired."

Logan looked at him worriedly. "You don't think anything happened, do you?"

Kendall shook his head. "No. If something had happened, he would have said that. Nevertheless, I don't like that. Did Camille call you?"

Logan shook his head. Kendall grimaced. "She didn't call Jo or me either."

Logan sighed. "I'm definitely going to see her now."

Kendall nodded. "OK. And if you know what's going on, please let me know."

"Promised."

Kendall nodded again, waved and followed Carlos and James. Logan called his mother to tell her that Carlos was in the skate park with the guys and he would go to Camille. Sylvia agreed. Logan hung up and then set off.
