Kyra laughs as she tries to teach Hook how to use the controller. They were playing a racing game and he kept crashing into the side of the road or a mountain. She pointed at the right trigger and explained it would put him in reverse. It took him half an hour to finally figure out what to do, but they were finally in a serious race and she was almost losing.
She shakes her head, "Oh, no you don't."
He grins from ear to ear, "You better watch yourself, darling."
She jumps up as she crosses the line, "HA! I win. In your face!" She looks down at him, a little embarrassed, "Sorry. I get a little competitive sometimes. Winning goes straight to my head."
He laughs, "Don't worry. I was enjoying the view." She rolls her eyes and he shrugs, "Besides, that was the most fun I have ever had. No wonder Henry is so enamored."
She sits back down and sighs, "Be careful, Killian. I have known many men who are addicted. They barely have a life. It is a little sad."
He frowns, "That seems wasteful. There is a beautiful world out there and beautiful women. Why would they want to waste it by staying inside?"
She laughs, "Welcome to the world of technology." She hops up again, "Come on. Show me your ship. I have always dreamed of being on a pirate ship."
He smiles and grabs her outstretched hand. Kyra was definitely going to make his life a hell of a lot more interesting.
Henry was sitting outside the inn debating on whether or not he should go in when Kyra and Hook walked out the door. He jumped back, startled, "I, uh, was just coming to see you, Ms. O'Malley."
Kyra raises a brow, "Call me Kyra, kid. Is there something that you needed?"
Henry kicks around a rock and sighs, "I wanted to ask you some things…about Emma. And, I guess, Neal. They don't talk much about the past and…I just need some answers."
Kyra bites her lip and looks at Hook, who shrugs, then back at Henry, "Listen, they have good reason to be so secretive. Especially Emma. Some things are better left unsaid."
He nods, "I know, but…please. I just want to get to know my parents a little better. I know everything there is to know about Regina. I think I deserve to know something."
Kyra runs a hand through her hair and shakes her head, "Your mother would kill me…"
Henry could tell that she was losing her resolve, "Come on. You know you want to."
She laughs, "Fine, but not here. We were heading to Killian's ship so I can finally realize my lifelong dream of being a pirate."
Hook snorts out a brief laugh, "It's not as great as it seems."
She rolls her eyes, "Liar."
He grins, "You got me."
Henry frowns at the two of them, "I don't care where. Let's just go."
Kyra raises her hands, "Pushy. You are definitely Emma's."
David watches as Henry walks off with Kyra and Hook. What the hell is going on now? He didn't trust Hook and Kyra seemed like a loose cannon, but he barely knew her. Should he follow? Of course he should. He didn't want his grandson to be hurt by these people. Hook may have helped save him from Pan, but that was before Neal and Emma got back together. When he thought he stood a chance.
He shakes his head and takes off after them. He keeps a good distance away so they don't notice him. He watches as Kyra laughs at something that Hook was saying and how the two of them seemed extremely close for barely knowing each other. Henry high fives Kyra when she says something that he can't hear. They seem to all be getting along just fine. He didn't know how to feel about that.
He is surprised when he sees them walk up the dock and onto the Jolly Roger. He sneaks closer and flattens himself against the side of the ship and listens as Henry starts talking, "Can we do the whole tour later? I really want to know how you met my mother and what she was like."
Kyra sighs, "Our story isn't the greatest one, kid. Are you sure you want to hear this?"
Henry nods vehemently and Hook smirks "Stop stalling and tell the lad."
Kyra shakes her head at him and laughs half-heartedly, "Ok. I first met Emma when I was 10 and she was 14…"
**flashback, foster home**
Kyra walks through the door of the place that was to be her new home. This was her second foster home this year and she could tell that these people were the same as the last. All they cared about was money. Another period of time where she would be invisible.
Her foster mother glares down at her, "Now, listen, girl. You will call me Mrs. Glass and nothing else. You are not allowed to touch anything, but your bed and if I ever catch you taking any food out of the fridge without my say so, you will pay." She points to a door at the end of the hall, "That is your room. I expect you to be in it at all times unless I say otherwise. There is a connecting bathroom so there are no excuses. Understood?"
Kyra nods shyly and walks down the dark, narrow hall. She slowly opens the door and walks in. A blonde girl walks out of the bathroom and sighs with relief, "I thought you were that horrible woman." She holds out her hand, "My name is Emma Swan. What is yours?"
Kyra bites her lip nervously looking at the hand held out to her. She was used to most people ignoring her. She looks up and takes the hand, "Kyra O'Malley. I-I didn't know I would be sharing a room."
Emma's eyes narrow, "Is that a problem?"
Kyra shakes her head, "No, no of course not. I-I didn't mean…I just…"
Emma laughs, "Sorry. I didn't mean to jump down your throat. You just never know with new people and I can tell you are new to this whole thing. How long have you been in the system?"
Kyra looks down sadly, "A year. My parents died when I was 7 and my aunt took me in, but she got married and decided she didn't have time for me so…Here I am."
Emma touches her shoulder sympathetically, "I'm sorry. That must suck. I know what it is like to not be wanted. I have been in the system my whole life. My parents didn't even care to take me somewhere. I was found on the side of the road."
Kyra's eyes widen, "That is horrible." She looks towards the door, nervously, "How bad is it?"
Emma sits down on the edge of the bed, "Mrs. Glass is harmless as long as you follow her rules. It's Mr. Glass you have you look out for. He is a drunk and a mean one." She eyes Kyra up and down and smiles, "You know what, kid, I am going to do you one helluva favor. I am going to take you under my wing and make sure nothing bad happens to you."
Kyra tilts her head to the side, curious, "Why? You don't know anything about me."
Emma laughs, "I will. And you seem sweet and still clinging to that innocence. I don't want you to lose that just yet."
Kyra sits across from her at the desk, "How old are you?"
Emma smiles, "14. But a lot of people say I sound older. I have seen a lot, it makes you really grow up."
Kyra swallows, nervously, "Great."
**present day**
"And that is how I first met your mother. She really helped me come to terms with a lot. I had only been in one other foster house and that one was nowhere near as horrible as the second house."
Henry looks down at his feet, "What else happened? How long were you there? Did you go to every foster home that Emma did? Wh-"
Kyra holds up her hands to silence him, "Whoa, there. One story at a time. You only asked how I met her. Next time we can talk about the next question you have. Take your time figuring out what you want to know. I can't tell you our whole life story."
Henry sighs heavily, frustrated, "Fine. When can we meet up again?"
Kyra thinks about it, "Tomorrow? Here. Where no one, but David can overhear us." Henry and Hook look up at her and she shrugs, "I know when I am being followed." She yells over the boat, "David you can come up here now."
David hesitates and then gives in. He walks slowly up, sheepishly, "You knew, huh? How?"
She smiles, "I wasn't always on my best behavior. Let's just leave it at that."
He nods and looks at Henry, "Aren't you supposed to be in school?"
Henry shrugs, "It's hard to sit in a classroom when I have so many questions running through my head."
Kyra laughs, "I think we should leave this story time for after school gets out. I would hate to get into any more trouble."
Hook waits for them to leave and turns back to her, "Are you sure that is such a good idea?"
Kyra shakes her head, "No, but he has a right to know and Emma can be a little…closed off about her past. I am sure you have noticed."
He nods, "Yeah…So how about that tour? I can show you the captain's quarters if you like."
She rolls her eyes and laughs, "One track minds are never the way to get what you want. I want a proper tour. Above deck." She runs her hand down his chest, "Then below deck."
He groans with anticipation, "Whatever the lady wishes. Just don't be surprised if it is a bit rushed."
A/N: So the holidays, some sickness, and a little bit of writers block have been chasing me around. I will try not to take such a long break next time, but i can't guarantee anything. I do want to continue with this story. I think it will turn out to be a good one. I have other stories to catch up on as well, so forgive me as i try to add chapters to them as well.
I hope you enjoy this chapter and continue to read. Please review. I want to know what you think of my character, Kyra. She is the first one that i have created on my own. Thanks :)
XOXO
