Chapter 02: Rainy Skies and Uncomfortable Boats
"Nee-san, wait!" Ieyasu shouted, running after a giggling brown haired little girl.
"Catch me if you can!" The little girl shouted back at him, giggling once again as the blond little boy ran even faster, almost catching up with his sister.
The two running kids came to an abrupt halt when, suddenly, the sound of a bell rang in the air.
Ieyasu stared up at the sky where the sound were coming from, his brows furrowed. Why were there the sound of the bells ringing coming from the sky?
The boy turned his head to look at his sister who was now sitting on the ground, having tripped earlier after being startled by the sound.
His sister stood up from the ground, brushing the dirt off her clothes as she does so.
With a small, gentle smile on her face, Tsuna walked towards him.
"Looks like you have to wake up now, otouto" Tsuna says as she gazes upward.
"Wh-what?" His face contorted in confusion.
Tsuna looked at him patiently, repeating her words once again. "You have to wake up."
"Wake up..."
"Wake up..."
Ieyasu opened his eyes just in time as a giant mallet came just a few inches off his face. Instinctively, the 12-years old rolled to the side, narrowly missing the mallet.
He immediately bolted up and turned to see his so-called tutor have a disappointed look on his face. "Tch. I missed..." the cursed Hitman mumbled.
"What was that for?!" Ieyasu shouted at the fedora wearing baby, his eyes wide with shock. Was the Hitman trying to kill him?!
"You're going to be late for school" Reborn told the boy before hopping down the bed and going out of the room.
Ieyasu just sat there, staring after the Hitman in shock and disbelief. He did that just to wake him?! And why did he look so disappointed to miss?!
He shook himself from his stupor. He should get moving, really. Reborn was right, he was going to be late. There was time for his reactions later. After all, he did not want to be bitten to death.
OoO
The blond sat beside the window sill, gazing out at the clear, blue sky. He had successfully gotten to school on time, evading a beating from the fierce and stoic disciplinary committee's leader and was now in his usual sit in class. His teacher was lecturing them about some lesson or another, but he couldn't seem to focus on the man's words.
It had been a few days now since Reborn came barrelling into his life, bringing chaos with him. The Hitman had began tortu- ahem, tutoring him to become a suitable Mafia Boss. The idea still did not sit well with him, but what can he say to the Hitman? Even if he voiced his opinions (which he did, quite a lot, in fact), he doubted that it would change anything. The best he can do is to prepare himself for the craziness and insanity that would be thrown his way.
He knew that the craziness that was happening around him right now was tame compared to what will come in the near future. He shivered at that thought. Just why was this his life? He blames his father for this, really.
His mind wandered once again and went to the topic of his elder sister. It was...weird, for the lack of a better word. While he does think about her and whatnot, it wasn't so frequent as he seem to be doing nowadays. He tries to spare himself from the pain it brings to him when he does so.
Plus, he had dreamt of her. While it isn't unusual to do so, the fact that it was so very vivid and looked and felt so real, made him think it to have a meaning. Maybe it was an omen?
He turned his gaze from the window to his teacher. The man was looking at him pointedly, having noticed that he wasn't paying attention to the lecture. He flushed in embarrassment and smiled apologetically. His teacher nodded and continued on with his lesson. Boy, was he glad that the man didn't call his name, thus alerting the entire class to his inattentiveness.
He took out his notebook and began taking notes. Well, even if the things that his teacher was saying wasn't sinking, he could take notes and read them later when his mind is all cleared up.
He didn't notice a classmate of his staring intently at him.
OoO
The small boat moved with the waves, the scent of the salty sea water mingling with the cool breeze. The six people on the boat sat quietly, none of them bringing up a conversation. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence, though.
This was the little boy's first time riding on a boat and he guess that it's kinda nice, if a bit uncomfortable. You know, he was reminded of that one nursery rhyme about a boat rowing on a stream and that one other rhyme about sitting down because the boat is rocking.
Little Harry sat on the lap of the brunette who introduced herself as Tsuna. After spending a few days with the group, the four years old had found out that they were being hunted down by some kind of group and that his companions weren't exactly normal and good citizens. That scared and thrilled him at the same time.
They had been nice to him, though. Being with the group gave him a feeling of being at home despite the fact that he hadn't been with them for long. The oldest in the group, Lancia, was really nice, he kind of reminded him of Uncle Moony for some reason, even though they looked nothing alike. He started calling him Uncle Lancia.
Tsuna-nee was really warm and accepting. She was the one whom he spent most of his time, with. She was also the one who convinced him to call the older boys with the exception of Lancia, nii-san, and her, nee-san. She was also the one who cooks their meals. At the thought of the food, he almost started drooling. She cooked really good. Maybe he could ask her to teach him.
Mukuro-nii, the older boy who was with Tsuna-nee when he met her at the park, was...kinda nice? He hadn't had much interaction with him and found him to be kinda creepy, what with his one red eye, creepy laugh, and his mostly distant nature. He was still, in some way, nice to him though.
Ken-nii, the unknown blond boy with a slightly feral look, despite his first impression, was actually nice and was really energetic. He ends most of his sentence with the word 'byon' too. He wonders why...
Chikusa-nii, another boy who was constantly wearing a beanie and had glasses, was, for most of the time, quiet. He was with Ken-nii a lot and they seemed to be close even though they were vastly different from one another.
Honestly, Harry had had the most fun he'd ever experienced these past few days. He'd also gotten a lot of attention from the group, the attention he so craved from his parents were something he now got on a daily basis.
The boat rocked harshly as the waves crashed. The boat they were in wasn't a big, luxurious one, and they had only 'borrowed' it. He heard Mukuro-nii speak, the foreign language flowing out of his mouth gracefully. Tsuna-nee said something in reply, though her words were less gracefully spoken. From the group, only Tsuna-nee spoke that language...imperfectly. As if she weren't as used to speaking it like the others.
As the boat's occupants were lulled into silence once again, Harry asked Tsuna a question that had been on his mind since that morning. "Tsuna-nee, where awe we going?" He asked with a childish lisp.
Tsuna merely smiled down at him. "You'll see" was the vague reply that he got. Harry tilted his head to the side, wondering why the older girl didn't answer his question. Oh well.
OoO
Tsuna smiled at her charge once again. He really was a cute little boy, so innocent and adorable. He reminds her of her younger brother sometimes. Not to say that she took him in as a substitute for her brother, because he was not. She had always been fond of little kids, and seeing Harry back then at the park, crying, she had just wanted to take him and hug him. Which she did.
She could see that Lancia didn't approve of her decision though, and she could understand why. She herself is just a kid as well, plus they were on the run from the Vindice and other Famiglias who wanted them for some reason or another.
...she really is selfish isn't she? Now, Harry would be in danger as well. She started to get depressed, sulking quietly. Suddenly, she heard a voice near her ear, "Why the long face, Tsunayoshi-chan?". "Hiee!" She screamed, startling the other occupants of the boat as well. When did he get that close?!
Mukuro smirked at the girl, enjoying her reactions. She really was so fun to tease. Well, that, and at least she wasn't sulking and moping anymore. He knows why she was like that, it was pretty easy to read her, after all. Bluntly speaking, her face is like an open book, what she's thinking and feeling shows easily.
Despite her improvements, she still couldn't lie and hide her emotions. Sometimes, that isn't so bad. It was pretty refreshing when you're living in a world shrouded by lies and deceit, and people she gets to know can't help but be taken with the girl's sincerity and genuine kindness, but sometimes...it is bad. Enemies can exploit you easily and you can get harmed. That would never happen though, not if he can help it. After all, she was one of the few he had reluctantly found himself caring for.
Tsuna glared at him but failed, looking like she was pouting instead. "Stop doing that! You scared me!" She told the older boy. She heard snickers, making her turn her head to look at Ken. She glared at him too, but instead of stopping, the other boy's snickers only became louder.
Harry looked at all of them in confusion, not really understanding what was happening. He blinked up at Tsuna cutely, causing the pouting 13-years old to hug him. This group was really weird and confused him most of the time, but it was fine. He'd rather be with them than staying with his family and inevitably become bitter bit by bit.
OoO
Ieyasu walked calmly, school having been finished for the day. His friends were all in a club today so he was all alone, like all the other Thursdays he has. Reborn, that sadistic demon-tutor from hell, was also not here. Come to think of it, he had seen neither hide or tail of the tutor for the entirety of the day. That did not bode well for him.
Ever since Reborn came to his life, the baby Hitman was always there, hiding in bushes, sitting on top of his head, disguising as someone else (you know, he still didn't understand why people would fall for his disguises each and every time. It was pretty obvious!), or just plain being there in some way. So the fact that he didn't see him all day made him be on edge.
"Sawada!" He heard a familiar voice call out. Stopping, he turned to look at the caller. Running towards him was the baseball club's ace and fellow classmate, Yamamoto Takeshi. "Yamamoto?" He mumbled in confusion. Why was he calling for him? They weren't on bad terms, in fact, you could say that they were on friendly terms, but they weren't close and didn't really talk to each other much.
Yamamoto caught up to him, smiling that smile he always wore but somehow never really looked right. "Do you mind if I walked home with you today?" The baseball player asked. Ieyasu looked at him oddly, but nonetheless, agreed.
The two walked in silence for a while and Ieyasu was becoming a bit uncomfortable. "So why did you want to walk home with me?" He blurted out. "Hmm?" Yamamoto looked at him. "N-not that I don't want your company or anything!" Ieyasu hastily said, not wanting the other to get offended or get hurt. "I-I was just wondering, because you know, it was so sudden and–" his rambling was cut off by a laugh and he turned to Yamamoto in surprise. "Nah, it's alright, I get it." He says with a friendly smile.
His friendly smile turned into a sad one. "Ne, Sawada, you're really good at different stuffs. What would you do if... you're performing not as well as you used to?" The older boy asked. Ieyasu looked at Yamamoto and, with a serious look, he replied. "Well, if I weren't doing good at something, I'd practice or study even more. But...I would also take a rest so that I'd have the necessary energy for it. It isn't all that good to push yourself till you're near death."
"I see..." the older boy muttered before going silent once again. It was like that for the rest of their walk. As they parted ways, however, Ieyasu called out to the baseball ace. "Yamamoto! I know we aren't all that close, but if you need something or you need someone to listen to you, I'm here." His classmate looked surprised, but then he smiled. A genuine smile. It was the first time he saw Yamamoto smile like that. With a wave, they separated ways.
OoO
"I'll be expecting you, then." Reborn says before hanging up the phone. He had been gone for most of the day, plotting and planning things for his current student.
The stage has been set and now, all he has to do is wait for it to all set in motion. He walked back to the kitchen and hopped up on a chair before taking a sip on a mug filled to the brim with coffee.
Hmm... he now had a tentative Storm guardian thrown in his student's way and he already has an idea for possible Rain, Cloud, Lightning, and Sun guardians after scouting around town too. All he needs to complete the set is a possible Mist guardian.
There are Mist users around, but they were either not suitable or had little to no potential at all. Sure they could get one and train them hard to at the very least be suitable, but this was the Vongola, the strongest famiglia around. Plus, all the other possible candidates have lots of potential, they can't have the Mist be lacking.
He sighed in irritation. Why was he the one thinking about this? This wasn't his job. Ieyasu is the one who's supposed to do this, not him. He was only sent here to train him to be a suitable Mafia Boss.
He hopped down the chair, intending to go around town once again, when, suddenly, he remembered about hearing from one of his informants of a strong mist user. But, there are lots of problems with that guy.
Then again, they were really in need of one, plus, he had a feeling that they don't have enough time. Why? He didn't know. But anyway, they could risk it. He once again took out his phone and dialed out one of his informants.
"Ciaossu..."
Hello everyone~ first of all, I would like to apologize for the very long time it took for me to update this fic and, I would tell you guys now that I really don't know when I'll be able to update next. My school life is pretty hectic right now what with all the projects and exams. I would also like to apologize for the short and boring update. I'm not satisfied with this either and I might edit this fic someday.
Btw, I want to tell you that the pairings won't happen until later on. Probably some little hints of it here and there, but nothing too much.
