It was as hot as a dragon's breath inside the forge.
For all the things that ran free, having two children running around the workshop wasn't worth it.
"Lucio. Luci."
The children proceeded to ignore her as Luci proceed to help up Lucio from a wild chase around the forge tables and weapon stands. She sighed and picked them up carefully.
"Lucio. Luci. That's enough," Zara muttered softly. They looked up at her, with their gold-lined eyes and olive faces. "What are you doing here?"
The twins only blinked, having long lost their fear of her. "Durza sent us."
Shit. They had also lost fear of Durza as well, making them perfect messengers that prevented her from clawing his eyes out. Clearly, he got the message of not going to her directly...but of course he uses a loophole.
"Just why...does Durza want me?"
The Lucio and Luci whinced.
Shit, wrong wording...too aggressive. How do I approach this?
Zara did a little squint, and forced a small smile on her face.
"Is he being a cowhole?"
Lucio, the looser humored and more oblivious to pain of the twins, snickered. Luci wanted to as well, but seemed more focused on getting the manner over with as the "older" of the two. It was a small reaction, but it was enough from preventing Zara from taking her mind of the actual subject. And it also stabbed Zara though the heart a bit.
"Durza said The King sent him to talk to you again."
Oh motherfucker. It was getting harder to maintain the smile. Lucio noticed, and stopped smiling. A prick went though her heart. Despite their speedy recovery, it was so easy to see the cheekbones when they stopped smiling.
Zara dropped the smile, sighing, grinding her teeth. The twins tensed. Realizing her mistake, Zara tucked them close, asking questions softly. Zara attempted to focus on softening her face at that moment.
"Do you want me to take you guys to bed?"
Lucio, desperate for less tension, slipped his head onto her ashen-ed collar. Luci, with her coiled muscles, followed the same action soon after. Unlike her brother, she didn't bother to close her eyes. Zara made the mistake of staring back. She could see the frustration of her own eyes in Luci's. Zara could feel her own muscles tighten like a snake around bones. Yet another mistake. Luci stared harder.
Zara proceeded to open her mouth, but quickly closed it, fearing an argument. It was sort of funny, a monster fearing the wrath of a female child, but compared to Luci, Zara actually had it a bit easier in terms of the past.
Zara held some empathy, but she held her ground. Zara loosened her muscles and tucked Luci closer. Luci took the peace offering, tucking her back and rump against Zara's cotton tunic and arm. She still didn't close her eyes.
Zara proceeded to take the less crowded of the workshop paths to get to their bedroom. Suddenly, Zara felt a familiar presence in the room. If she looked through one corner of her eye, she could see Luci close her eyes to a sliver. To her right:
Durza.
It took the full effort to just walk towards the twins' hallway while her upper leg muscles tensed.
Once Durza was out of her vision, her muscles were still tense. She carefully kicked the door open, revealing a queen size bed covered in silver embroidered blue sheets and curtains surrounded by painted shadowed walls that still smelled like flower dye and graphite. Zara, slowly began tucking in the twins, the scene of the room calming her a bit.
While Lucio was now a blue clothed-rock, Luci looked at her like a stone werecat from underneath the oceanic sheets. If it weren't for the current scenario, Zara would have…okay she stilled snickered.
Zara took a few steps towards the door, and looked back.
The twin's had everything here: clothing, food, toys, books, each other, a...well technically she wasn't around them very often. Or could be considered an actual person for another reason.
But technically...am I imprisoning them?
Absentmindedly, Zara tucked a strand of stray maroon hair behind her ear, closing the door.
