Chapter 3: What the heck?

"Look, I can't be any clearer on how crystal clear I'm being," Sam said, attempting for the thousandth time to explain what happened. "It just stood up."

"Sam," Nora sighed, rubbing her temples. "Give up already, will you? They're not going to believe you!"

"Like I said," he continued, glaring at Nora, "it just. Stood. Up."

"It just stood up," one of the police officers repeated. Nora shot Ron a look. He just shrugged and mouthed, I just got here.

"Wow. That's really neat." The cop with the greasy mustache grabbed a bottle and a tissue and handed them to Sam. "Okay, chiefie. Time to fill 'er up. And no drippy-drippy."

Sam looked confused. "What are you rolling? Whippets? Goofballs? A little wowie sauce with the boys?" the cop asked, raising an eyebrow. Nora had to stifle a snicker. Sam? On drugs? As if!

"No, no, I'm not on any drugs!" Sam protested, sitting up straighter in his seat.

"What's these?" the officer countered, holding up his hand. His partner threw an orange bottle to him, which he deftly caught.

"Found it in your pocket. 'Mojo'. Is that what the kids are doing now? A little bit of Mojo?"

"Those are our dogs pain pills!" Nora barked, wishing that she could be anywhere but in the police station in her pajamas, which were a Pirates of the Caribbean tank top and flannel pants decorated with horseshoes. Her hair looked like it hadn't been washed in days, and dark circles were under her eyes from lack of sleep.

"You know, a Chihuahua. A little…" Ron trailed off.

The cop sighed, running a hand over his face. Suddenly, he stopped. "What was that? You eyeballing my piece, 50 cent? You wanna go? Make something happen. Do it. 'Cause I promise you, I will bust you up." By this time, he was little more than an inch from Sam's face.

"Are you on drugs?" Sam whispered.

"Well, that went well!" Nora said as she walked into the kitchen, where she was promptly tackled by Judy.

"Oh, Nora, don't you ever scare me like that again! I thought you had been kidnapped or killed or…"

"Aunt Judy, I'm fine! Now, please, stop crushing my lungs!" Nora gasped. Judy obligingly let go, but she was still crying.

Nora turned on the TV and saw that it was immediately on the news. The woman said, "It was an awesome spectacle here an hour ago when over 40 C-17s lifted off this very base. We're not told where they're going. The government has been very quiet about what's going on, but in our opinion, they were heading toward North Korea."

"Stop with the barking, Mojo. It's too early, please!"

"Uh, Sam?" Nora said, looking out the window. Sam joined her and gasped, dropping the carton of orange juice he was holding. He scooped up Mojo and grabbed the phone.

"Miles? Miles, listen to me. Listen. My car, it stole itself, okay?"

"Dude, what are you talking about?" Miles asked on the other end.

"Satan's Camaro!" Sam replied. "In my yard. It's stalking me!" Nora laughed when Sam's voice squeaked.

"Nora, come on!" Sam yelled, running out the door and grabbing Judy's bike. Nora grabbed hers, which Ron had retrieved from the junkyard, and pedaled after him.

"Sam, wait! I really don't want to go to the cops again!" Nora yelled. Of course, brother dear wouldn't listen to her.

"Stop!" he called, pedaling as fast as he could away from the yellow car coming after them. "No, no, no, no, no!" With that, the bike hit a jutting edge in the sidewalk and jerked to a stop, sending Sam flying over the handlebars.

"Sam?" a voice asked. Nora looked ahead to see Mikaela sitting at a table with two other girls.

"Hi," Sam groaned.

"That was…that was really awesome," Mikaela floundered, clearly trying to make Sam feel better.

"Well, it felt awesome," Sam grunted.

"Are you okay?" Nora and Mikaela asked at the same time.

"I'm not okay, all right? I'm losing my mind a little bit. I'm getting chased by my car right now. I gotta go." Sam hopped back onto the bike and pedaled off. The banana-yellow Camaro rolled after him.

"Nora, come on," Mikaela said, motioning to her moped. Nora gave it a critical look. "Well, it's faster than a bike!"

"Okay, let's go," Nora agreed, hopping onto the moped, thankful that Ron had given her a change of clothes before they left the police station. She was now wearing a blue and white t-shirt, Capri jeans, and navy blue Toms.

Nora and Mikaela sped off down the street. They came to a corner, but were blocked by a cop car. It stopped momentarily, then it sped off again…in the direction Sam had gone.

"Hey, Mikaela?" Nora asked, getting a bad feeling in her gut. "Since when are cop cars Mustangs?" Mikaela shrugged. Nora racked her brain, but only one conclusion came up, and for the first time in her life, Nora hoped she was wrong.

They came upon a parking garage and were about to pull in when Sam came tearing out, yelling for them to turn around. Mikaela kept going, but Sam tackled them and brought them both to the ground.

"What is your problem, Sam?"

"Mikaela, get off of me!" Nora yelled.

"Okay, there's a monster right there! It just attacked me!" Mikaela and Nora were about to ask him what he meant when a giant robot with blazing guns ran came out.

"WHAT THE HECK?" Nora screamed, backing up.

"Here he comes! All right, get up. Get up and run! You have to run! Okay."

"Sam, what is that thing?" Mikaela cried, frozen in fear. Just then, the Camaro pulled up, its doors opening.

Nora ran forward and leapt into the car, climbing into the back seat. "Well, don't just sit there! Get in!" she screamed, looking anxiously at the robot that was steadily getting closer.

"You have to get in the car," Sam urged, pleading with Mikaela. "Get in!"

"I don't want to."

"Get in the car. Trust me. Trust me!"

"Sam."

"Get in!" Nora yelled. As soon as they were inside, she hollered, "Drive, Bumblebee, drive!" She realized that she had just blown her cover, but it didn't matter now. Now, the only thing that mattered was keeping Sam and Mikaela safe.

"Go, go, go, go, go, go!" Sam yelled. After that, Nora couldn't understand a single word of what Sam and Mikaela said. She just focused on making sure that Barricade stayed off their tail.

"We're locked in!" Sam cried when Bumblebee stopped for a minute, trying to ditch Barricade. "At least we ditched the monster right?" Just then, a very familiar police car drove by in front of them.

"Time to start," she murmured, patting the leather seat. "Go!" Bumblebee took off, revving his engine. When they came to an old quarry, all three of them jumped out. The Camaro then transformed into a tall, yellow robot! Bumblebee took a fighting stance. Nora ran forward and stopped right next to him.

"Nora! Get back here! What are you doing?" Sam yelled, concern for his sister coating his voice.

Nora turned and looked at him. However, her familiar blue eyes were replaced by bright blue glowing optics. In voice tinged with a metallic clang, Nora said, "Sam, Mikaela, stay behind us. We know what we're doing." At once, her skin seemed to fold inwards, revealing sky-blue and silver metal that covered every inch of her body. Her hair retracted into her head and was covered with a battle helmet, and she suddenly grew in size, becoming at lease thirty-five feet tall!

"Who are you?" Mikaela yelled, confused beyond belief at that moment.

The blue and silver robot turned and looked at them. "This is Bumblebee, the robot trying to bump us off is Barricade, and I am Nova."
