Yume no Naka ni Seishin

Chapter Two

The alarm next to the bed was blaring away, telling all that it was time to get up. Harry opened his eyes and slammed his hand on top of the poor machine, turning it off. He rolled over onto his back and stared at the white ceiling above him. It was his first day at Muggle School in five years, and he couldn't help the slight nervousness that was making itself known, as the butterflies that were now circling within his stomach. Harry had done his best to prepare and make sure that he was up to speed with all the subjects that he would be covering at his new school. He had an excellent grasp on the language as well, both written and spoken, thanks to the spell that Dumbledore had shown him.

Harry flung the blanket back, got up and headed to the bathroom. He had a quick shower, thinking about whether he would hide the Necromancy Marks that were on his wrists. He didn't want to because he hated having to hide them, and he would have to do it almost all the time if he started out like that. But if he didn't people could always start questioning him about why they were there. He stepped into his bedroom and looked at the tattoos. He would leave them uncovered; he would just have to tell them that it was a private reason that he got them.

Harry put on his new school uniform, black trousers, white shirt, red tie; he didn't put the cream coloured blazer on just yet. He took it off the hanger and went downstairs to the hallway, where Hedwig was happily sleeping. The young wizard noticed that she had mail still tied to her leg. He gently untied it, hoping that he wouldn't wake the owl up, but it didn't work.

"Morning Hedwig," Harry smiled to her as she cooed to him. "Thank you for getting the mail, will you be all right on your own?" he asked her, she gave a small hoot and bobbed her head. "All right then Hedwig, the window for you to go in and out the house is always open as you know, also, don't bring any dead animals inside." He added, knowing that she would be able to understand his orders. Hedwig gave another hoot and then tucked her head under her wing, going back to sleep.

Harry smiled at her and shook his head and left her alone to sleep. He walked into his kitchen, put his blazer on the back of one of the chairs and started to make himself some toast and strawberry jam, and a cup of tea for his breakfast, he didn't do the fry up anymore and hadn't since his forth year when he became vegetarian. He opened his letter and smiled, it was from Hermione and Ron. He would have to answer them later; he would then be able to tell them all about what happened at his first day of school. Since that was one of the things that they, read… Hermione… was asking.

Harry read the rest of his letter as he started to eat his breakfast and drank his morning tea.

Dear Harry

It's been hectic here for a while after you left, the press went ballistic when it was mentioned that you had left England. People are saying you should have stayed; you had a duty, and all that type of thing. I think they are idiots; you done what you needed to do now you can have time to yourself. I still can't believe that you didn't stay to take your O.W.L's, what are you going to do over there? Will you be able to take them still?

Hey mate, ignore the O.W.L talk, Hermione has been doing it almost none stop since you left, only blah, blah weeks, etc. She's driving me nuts, you sure you wont come back and save me from her and her homework planner? I am so going to miss talking to you about Quidditch and playing chess, nothing more fun that beating you for the hundredth time.

Well someone has to worry about the future. Ignore Ron. Anyway, Professor Lupin is teaching DADA again; so nice to have someone teaching DADA that actually knows what to teach us. He did tell us that about where you are living, I so hope you would be all right with me visiting one day, maybe during the summer? He said that you would be starting your new school soon as well, you have to tell us what it is like there, how different is it from Hogwarts?

School, that's all she wants to know about. Though if it's all right for her to come and see you, I want to as well. I'll even go Muggle. At least then I'll have something that I can talk to my dad about. I think Snape is pissed that you aren't here any more. He hasn't taken a single point from Gryfindor since we got back to school. Shocking I know.

Anyway, write back as soon as you can, Ron agrees with me on that one. Enjoy school and make sure to take plenty of notes and pay attention; I know what you are like sometimes (Binn's Class).

Miss you Harry.

Yeah, miss ya mate.

Harry folded the letter back up and then washed up his plate and cup. He put on his blazer and picked up the bag he had prepared the day before and left his house, he had an entrance ceremony to go to.

Harry followed his new homeroom teacher and fellow classmates. It was a little different that what had happened when he first went to Hogwarts, though a part of it was the same. A ceremony to be greeted by the upper classes, and by the teachers that would help shape their minds and teach them all they needed to know to succeed in the world. Harry wondered a little if they had gone through that every time they started at a new school. He would have to ask one of his classmates when he got the chance.

They started to walk into their new classroom, when someone bumped into his back. Harry caught himself before he could fall on the floor and turned around to see who it was that had bumped into him. It was a girl, with short brown hair and warm brown eyes. She was on the floor, looking up at him apologetically.

"I am so sorry," she said quickly.

"It happens," Harry smiled back at her and held out a hand for her to take so he could help her up.

She took his hand and he pulled her up, "I'm still sorry though. I can be a little clumsy at times."

Harry laughed a little, "I have a friend that is the same. She can fall over her own two feet and air at times."

"I'm Mai, Mai Taniyama." She said as the two now stood face to face.

"I'm Harry Potter, nice to meet you." He replied as the two then walked into their classroom.

"That's an unusual name, where are you from, England?" she asked him, curious.

"Yes, I am. I've recently moved out here, needed to get away from a few things back in England." Harry answered her as they found some seats next to one another.

Mai smiled, "That's a long way to move with your family, how are they all finding it living in Japan?"

"I've moved here on my own, my parents died when I was still a baby, and my Aunt and Uncle finally got their wish and got rid of me when I became emancipated. So I live on my own, and I prefer it that way, than living with them." Harry answered honestly; he found no point in hiding his basic history from the girl, it would come out sooner or later.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, though I do know what you mean. My dad died when I was little, I barely remember him. My mother became ill and died a few years ago. I lived with a teacher for a while, but I live alone now. Though I do miss having someone there waiting for me when I come home," she told him softly, her voice sad and understanding.

"I'm sorry to hear that. Treasure those memories that you do have though, the only memory I have of my parents are of the night they were murdered." He said as he reached a hand over and squeezed her shoulder in comfort.

"Thank you," she smiled back.

"Right, class." The teacher called out, getting the attention of his students.

The rest of the day was spent learning his way around his new school and making friends with some of his classmates. A lot of them were curious about him when they learned that he had moved there from England. Harry enjoyed the difference he felt within the school, no one was staring at him all the time, whispering about him behind his back. If they wanted to know something they would come up to him and ask him about it. Harry found it refreshing from all the back stabbing type talking he got used to at Hogwarts.

Harry reached home and changed out of his uniform, getting it ready for the next day. He went into the kitchen and settled down to write a letter to Ron and Hermione.

To Ron and Hermione

This place is different in a good way. There is no one after me trying to kill me, or even interview me about something that doesn't even matter any more. I am just another student among hundreds. We had an entrance ceremony today. We were walked into the Sports Hall, where all the older students were sitting with their parents, and the parents of my own year mates as well. We were all welcomed to the school by the teachers and principal as well. They introduced themselves to us, making sure that we knew we could go to them about problems. Two of the older students came up and welcome us as well. It was so different to how we were sorted.

It really felt as though we were going to be a part of a big family, while it may have been similar at Hogwarts, or rather what it should have been like. It just didn't have the same feel, I feel more at home at my new school. They are united in a way Hogwarts isn't, you know straight away which person you could go to for help. The parents clapped for us all. It's hard to describe.

When that was all over we were assigned a homeroom and then our new teacher took us to the classroom. Another student bumped me into, she's called Mai and she's an orphan just like me. She's nice as well; understanding in the way those that still have their parents will never be able to. We talked for most of the day, there are a few others I talked with, but I mainly stuck with Mai, she's interesting, never let anything keep her down type of personality.

Hermione, one thing about homework and planning for N.E.W.T's make sure to have some fun, don't forget third year when you were ding nothing but school work, you ended up snapping at everyone and missing classes as well. So plan in some time for fun, even if it is only taking a walk around the grounds, just do something that doesn't need a book, a quill or parchment. Ron, do some homework at least, you have to work if you want to get somewhere in life. I know I have my work cut out for me as well; I may have taken an exam to get in to this school, but I still feel as though I am behind everyone. Then again, I haven't had a lesson yet they start fully tomorrow; we've been getting all our books today as well as our timetable.

How is everyone doing? I have to admit that I do miss you both and the others, though I'm enjoying myself here/

Anyway, I'll finish here and send this on, take care of yourselves! Don't forget to have some fun Hermione!

Harry

The teen finished writing and sealed it up in an envelope, he was glad that he wasn't using quills and parchment anymore for writing on. It was one of the things that he hated about the Wizarding World; it was so backwards when compared to the modern world. He walked into the hallway and over to Hedwig, who was now awake and looking a little bored. He couldn't help but smile, he knew that she would still be finding it a little disturbing to be in a place where the way she would normal do things were different here.

"Hey girl, can you take this to the main owl office to be sent out?" he asked her. The owl bobbed her head and held out her leg for him to attach the letter to. "Okay girl, out you go, and have a safe flight." He told her as he finished tying the letter to her leg.

Hedwig flew off from her perch to the small window Harry had charmed for her to be able to go in and out of and off she went to deliver the letter to the main owl office in Japan, so that it would be sent out to England. It was the only way owl mail would be able to go out and come in to the country. Each place had the same, though there were a few postal birds that were able to do the long journeys. Harry turned back to the kitchen to start something for his dinner, a vegetable lasagne sounded like a nice idea.
