I promise I will get back to 2030 and the whole Ted situation but it won't be for a while. I wanted to show the years in between when B/R get back together to 2030 when Robin is with Ted. Now, that relationship is 100% one sided, Robin is only helping Ted with his kids and helping out after Tracy dies. It's Ted who still loves her, but I will explain more about that in a later chapter. For now, We are still in 2020 and the aftermath of what happens there with Barney and Robin.

2020

They are sitting on the bed reminiscing about their relationship looking at pictures on his tablet trying to make sense of everything they just discovered about how they're both in miserable places in their lives. Barney had just shown Robin some pictures from their wedding day. After everything went so horribly wrong, after the extremely long three day weekend where a lot of things happened they finally realized nothing else matters but the two of them. They get married and after everything they had been through in their lives finally being married without a concern in the world they are slow dancing at the reception.

"We were happy, weren't we?" Robin asked, all the way back to his apartment she had been thinking a lot about what they just told each other back at Maclaren's. They had both discovered that neither had moved on from each other and with this realization both knew that the reason why they couldn't move on is because everything was left unspoken for so long.

"Yeah, we were. That first year of our marriage was the best year of my life. The day I married you was the best day of my life and I would never take back the memories of being married to you and loving you because you truly are and always will be the love of my life. I knew then the first time I started to really fall in love with you and from that moment on I knew I could only love you and will never love anyone else. I knew you were always the one for me, loving you and being loved by you was the most special most wonderful thing in my life and I will never forget or move on from loving you. It's simply impossible to move on from you and stop loving you." He knew for along time that he was going to love this woman forever and in the last four years he hadn't moved on or forgotten about her or loving her because he always will.

She's looking at him trying to fight the tears in her eyes that want to desperately spill out. All of this is so overwhelming and unexpected. She knows now why she couldn't move on from him, it's because she still loves him and knows now that she will simply never stop being in love with him ever. Moving on isn't even a thing she needed to do, the reason she came to Ted's wedding was to prove once and for all that she can move on if there was prof of him moving on as well. But, obviously he hasn't and won't ever move on from her just like she won't ever move on from him.

2009

"I guess this is it then, we're breaking up." After only six months of being together they both realized even though they love each other that they aren't working out. It has been coming for a few weeks now, the fights and the making up, the quietness, the pushing each other away, not talking, everything had finally come to a head and they're at a place where they just can't be together.

"I guess so." Barney responded sadly, gosh he knows he will always love her but this moment truly is breaking his heart. He wishes he can change things, fix things between them and try to work things out so that this doesn't happen. He doesn't do anything instead they breakup and try to move on from each other but it was no use because they never stopped loving each other.

"I can't believe we're breaking up. I wish we could go back and try to change this decision and try to work things out." Robin knew that this is the end of their relationship and they are going to try and go back to just being friends.

"I know, I wish we could too but we can't. We tried and we failed, I love you but we just can't make us work anymore." Barney is almost in tears trying to find a way to not cry in front of her and Robin's already crying as she starts to pack up the things she had kept at his place.

"I know, I love you too." It was the first time in weeks that she said those words. She means it, after so many years of not being able to say these words to anyone. Barney Stinson is the only man where these words she once struggled to say to someone comes out of her mouth so clearly and he's the first guy she's ever let herself love freely that saying these words was the most easy thing to do and it felt natural to say them.

That was the last time they spoke to each other at the time. After that they both realized that their feelings for each other got stronger and neither could fight what they always knew was there. The next thing the knew they were engaged and everything just felt like a blur. Being together felt right, it felt like their breakup wasn't a breakup. It was too great best friends trying to tell each other that it was best to stay friends and not go back to each other. Their feelings just never went away and knew they only wanted to be with each other after a few years of denying the inevitable.

2020

"I forgot, I had put this in our box of stuff from our relationship and put it away in my closet after you gave it back to me." He had just come from his walk in closet with the large box of things they had put in there through out their relationship. After their divorce, she had given back her wedding ring and her engagement ring which is a family heirloom. But, he had told her that she can keep her engagement ring because it's hers now, he doesn't need to have it back or given back to his father because he gave that to her to have forever. He even had it engraved when they resized the ring.

Legenmarried

That had been written on both the engagement ring, her wedding ring and his ring. After they divorced she had kept the ring and placed it on a necklace she had worn whenever she had thought of Barney or missed him. And it was a lot of the time after their divorce that she put it on and never took it off until this day when she saw him again.

"You kept these?" Robin asked as she held her wedding ring in her hands. The tears that she tried to stop are now falling more faster, they're uncontrollable.

"Of course, I would never get rid of memories of you. These rings represent us and our relationship, even though it didn't work out I'm always going to remember you and the most wonderful day of my life. The day I married the most amazing, awesome, wonderful woman in the world." He says this as he looks at her trying to figure out the reactions to their recent discovery.

The next thing they knew they were kissing. He had taken the rings and put it back in the box on the floor and she showed him something that she had been wearing for four years.

"Is that your engagement ring?" He asked as she showed him her ring, it had been around her neck during the wedding reception. She had put it on after the party started to die down. She wanted to wear it just for a memory to have from their wedding but also because she wanted him to notice the necklace around her neck. He didn't notice but she knew the reason why he didn't notice.

"I've had it on since the reception earlier. I was hoping you notice it." After sometime and the tears had subsided Robin finally showed him her ring around her neck.

"How long have you been wearing that?" He asked, now fully aware that she had wanted to get his attention and had hoped that he would notice the necklace which she wasn't wearing at the wedding earlier that day.

"Since the divorce." It wasn't what he meant but now he knew for sure that she had been missing him a lot more than he realized.

"That wasn't what I meant but wow I'm shocked." Is all he can say, he doesn't know how to talk right now this is such a crazy unexpected realization that he just found out.

"I know, I was missing you a lot so had had put the ring on a necklace and every time I missed you or thought about you I would put it on and it was a lot of the time that I had missed you. I've thought about you and about us for years, it's why I can't move on." He had place his hand on top of hers and lifted her chin to look at him as she wasn't looking at him when she told him about the ring.

"I had to know, I had to know if you moved on and now I know that you haven't I realized that I can't either. I still love you. I still want to be with you despite of everything that happened. I can't move on because now I know you feel the same way." He looks at her for a moment and it's just like that first moment when he looked at her on the day he realized he was in love with her. In that moment it was like going back to that day, in the hospital recovering from that bus accident. When she told her story about how her dog turned into a turtle. It was in that moment when he realized he loved her and it was like that moment all over again right now.

He couldn't wait any long so he kissed her, for the longest time he had wanted to kiss her. Just like their first kiss that night they watched her Sandcastle In The Sand video. He kissed her like she needed to be kissed, instead of it being sweet and unexpected this kiss was frantic and needed. He had missed the feel of her lips on his, he had never once forgotten how it feels every time he kissed her. It was like that first kiss all over again.

"God, I love you so much." He had said breaking the kiss.

There was no more wasting time in minutes their close were off each others bodies and scattered all over the floor. They had waited four years not knowing if they will ever have feelings left over for each other and now that they know this moment for them was everlasting.

"Marry me again." After a few minutes of catching their breath from their frantic, passionate love making he finally asked her the question that he had wanted to ask her for a while this night.

"What?" She asked, she was looking up at the ceiling day dreaming about what just happened not realizing what he just said to her.

"Marry me." The first time he had asked her he was a nervous wreck, he was so nervous and worried about what her answer would be that he overthought and over rehearsed what he would say to her when he first sees her. He wanted to tell her so many things but ended up not saying anything but 'will you marry me.' it was all such a blur to her but to him it was all nerves and second guessing this plan to make her his forever.

"I don't know, I mean we just got back together after being apart after a painful divorce. Why would you want to marry me again knowing it can end the same way as it did the last time?" This wasn't the answer he had wanted to hear but he gets why she's saying it.

"Because… I love you. I know you love me, you have been wearing your engagement ring for four years. Clearly, you weren't over me or over our marriage. I love you, I want to be with you for real, for good this time. So, why not just get married again?" The answer was given a few minutes later after she thought about what she would say to this.

"I have a job, the last time we were married my job came between us. I can't do that again where I have to pick between you and my job." She tells him, it sounds a little harsh, the sound of her voice was sharp and loud but this was her answer.

"I get that you have a job, I know it was the reason for our divorce but why can't you have both? I mean, we can be together like we have been dreaming of and wanting for years and you can still work. I have a new job offer that takes me all over the world for the FBI. I was thinking of not taking it but then I decided to take the offer and I start next week. We can work together and make this work again." She was thinking about this, really considering her options and realizing there is no point in not being together.

"Yes." It was a simple answer one that she knew she wanted to say right away when he asked it but was unsure about if she really wanted to do this again. She can't lose him again over her job she could barely see straight after their divorce she can't put herself through that again.

"Yes?" He wanted to make sure he was hearing this correctly.

"Yes, I will marry you."

That is how they ended up here in Vegas getting married again. They had just left without telling anyone wanting to keep their reunion a secret like their secret summer. They decided to keep this a secret. After getting married again she went off to do a report in China and he started his new FBI job.
