Chapter 2
Mysterious Encounters
I was walking hurriedly across the stone path way. The sky was gray and cloudy. I shouldered the basket and quickened my pace I didn't want to be late or else mother would be very cross. I turned around the alley way and entered the busy market of castle town, I tightened my shawl around me as the wind blew a chill. I started twirling my blonde hair as I made my way to the castle and to the servants entrance that lead to the large kitchen that my mother worked laboriously in.
"Zía you are late you were to be back fifteen minutes ago." my mother complained swiftly taking the fresh bread out of the basket and onto the board and started cutting.
"I'm sorry momma the baker hadn't started until I almost got there. I promise I won't burn the bread again." I apologized as I took my shawl off and put on my apron I tied my long blonde hair up with a ribbon. A sudden wave off dizziness came upon me I reached out for the table to steady myself. My father walked his mouth open as if to say something when he looked at me and stopped.
"Zía are you well?" he asked an unusual amount of concern in his voice. I nodded but the dizziness came tenfold I tried to say I was fine but I toppled over my vision going black and I could hear the remnants of my parents call my name.
I woke to frigid air around me my vision was black as I tried to open them I remained in black. I got up clutching myself to keep myself warm. I turned around trying to blink the black spots from my eyes. I could hear my breathe echoing which meant I was in a high vaulted ceiling or a cave.
"Brilliant, you are right. You are someplace you have been before." A voice said I turned around but it was still pitch dark.
"Who are you?" I shouted though my voice sounded small as it reverberated across the darkness.
"I am a part of you, a part of yourself conscious, hidden deep within you until you need me most." The voice whispered it sounded like the wind as it rustled around me.
"You said I've been here before. I don't remember this place, why?" I asked I hated not knowing things especially if I should have remembered it. My sensitive ears picked up a noise behind me I turned quickly expecting to see someone. However, the movement was only some birds and my rapid movement startled them. They flew away the darkness parted as I realized I was standing in a large temple the top was high above and there was beautiful decorative stained glass and a pedestal with the symbol of something that seemed so familiar like it was on the tip of my tongue.
"Yes you know it, but not yet. All will become clear later on it isn't safe with him around. I have kept something from you, "Zía" that you should know now. Everything will be fine as someone as special as you are, you must grow keen on these visions. I kept them at bay and sealed your identity from everyone."
Just as sudden as the almost familiar temple appeared they vanished I had the sensation that I was falling. I landed this time on something soft and cold, I stood up another wave of dizziness came over me. I looked down to my feet, my legs were now shaking uncontrollably from the sudden frigid air. I walked around trying to find my bearings and see if I knew where I was. A loud horn suddenly blared in the distance another one following quickly more followed signaling something I turned around to the sound of the horns. My vision suddenly cleared and I sucked in my breath the sight before me was beautiful.
I was on the edge of a cliff with a large river to the side of my if I looked across I could see the large expanse of a lake below me there was snow on the ground and fog rolling down the side of the mountains to the left. I looked down and saw a huge waterfall cascading down from the river that was so close to me. The sound of the waterfall suddenly came into proportions and I covered my sensitive ears for the sound was tremendous. There was the sound of an explosion far below smoke came billowing out of a tunnel to the far side of the lake. A strange blue person with weird things protruding from its arms leapt from the river with surprising grace and landed on the ground right next to me not even noticing me and continued hurriedly.
I found it odd that the strange thing didn't notice me but shrugged it off as I suddenly felt a pull in the direction the thing went. I was violently sucked into a vast chamber where it seemed the source of the river came from. I began to search violently in my head trying to figure out what these things were and where I was. There seemed to be hundreds of them scattered about but one was the most majestic out of all of them.
"It's the source of all the water in Hyrule, Zía." That voice said warmly, my brain was working over time trying to figure out what they were.
"My lady, Ganon has attacked from the front. He has brought countless magi and soldiers, I'm not sure we can hold him." The thing that had leaped from the river had made it to whoever clearly was in charge.
"Zora right?" I thought I had never seen Zora before they looked slightly weird with their fins but then again I'm sure I looked strange to them as well. The majestic woman stepped forward the things protruding from her arms were fins and her hair was a bright red coal color she spoke for calmness and the other Zoras quietly obeyed their queen.
"Ganon would not dare attack our Kingdom. Our water supplies all of Hyrule he would not risk destroying it." The queen spoke she said with a calm voice that rippled authority and created harmony in the chaotic running. A large explosion rocked the ground underneath a high pitch squeal pierced the tranquil chamber and my vision went black a low voice was echoing through my mind as the Zora domain faded.
"Surrender my Queen Ruto there is no way for you to win!"
My vision returned to see the large queen with a sword in her hand and a shield in the other several other Zora surrounded her a large figure loomed in front of me the figure turned around and it was Ganondorf his eyes a menacing gold iris that smirked with pleasure.
"Very well kill her as an example." He said and I feel unconscious
I woke to see a dark figure hanging over me I could smell the faint smell of something burning hanging over the strange figure.
"Oh my lord she breathes thank you so much my lord." My mother's unmistakable voice echoed in the large kitchen my vision focused and I saw Ganondorf hanging over me. I sat up terrified to see him so close to me.
"Easy my dear you do not look well." He said his voice was the same deep rumbling sound that was in my vision
"I'm fine." I said rather loudly my mother gave me a stern look "My lord…." I suddenly felt sick at saying those words to that man. I got this suddenly feeling that he was studying me as he smiled his golden irises staring deep in to me.
"Thank you so much my lord we were worried she was dying you truly are a savior." My father said I turned to him staring he smiled and bowed to Ganon my mother doing the same however I didn't
"Zía!" My mother shouted eyeing me her expression saying show some respect.
Ganon smiled bowing his head a little. "No it's fine doing so might upset her stomach, I would recommend some tea and something to settle it. I must be leaving now so very much to do." He said turning to leave my mother and father stood from their chairs I slowly got up as well although I had a strange feeling he had meant the Zora in his last statement as he disappeared through the door and up the stairs.
"Lord Ganondorf was very nice and helped you Zía you should be grateful that you were lucky enough for the king himself to heal you." My father said my mother nodded agreeing with him as she set down a cup of tea and some bread. I heard the sudden bells ringing signaling that the people wanted their dinner. My mother sighed as she put her apron back on. "There is no rest for the wry." My father finished and helped me up from my chair and walked me to my room where he told me to rest for a while and that I shouldn't push myself saying that it was most likely exhaustion that was the cause. I tried to refuse but they insisted. As soon as my head hit the pillow I fell asleep, but I couldn't help but feel like something bad was going to happen. Something very bad.
Father had told me not to follow him but I had to… there was no that I wasn't going to follow him. I stayed in the shadows as I was taught. I hung in the ceiling looking down as my father was walking chained so it was nearly impossible for him to move.
I wanted to help him but I couldn't, not yet. I couldn't go charging in there without a plan. That was how I was trained, I would wait for an opportunity than I'd strike. I could see darkness wrap around my father's tall frame the darkness would occasionally form powerful binding spells that kept him at bay.
"So this is the mighty Sheikiah that was slowing everything down, how pitiful" came the mocking voice of the false king. The voice was coming from the shadows the coward. "Now be a loyal servant like your ancestors and tell me where the hero is?" he asked the question stopped my silent breath. My father laughed loudly the sound could easily be heard in the high vaulted ceiling.
"Like I would tell you, you can try all you want but you're not my king there is royal blood flowing somewhere in Hyrule. I only serve the true royalty." My father spat I could see the darkness squeeze my father tightly. My father's face tightened in pain my fist tightened with anger he was hurting my father!
"Very witty, very witty." The false king whispered. I wanted to leap down and help but I couldn't he wanted me I could tell, and my father wasn't going to tell him anything. "Let us go on a little trip to my favorite room shall we?" Ganondorf said my father didn't say anything. Ganondorf stepped from the shadows sneering with delight. His gold iris's flashing with pleasure. "Very well than, let's go Sheikiah."
The guards shoved my father down a doorway the sound of their footsteps echoed up to my sensitive ears that twitched silently. I waited until I couldn't hear their steps anymore and climbed down until it was safe for me to jump down. I did landing on the balls of my feet easily not making a sound. Also just how I was trained. Something flashed as I fell and I quickly looked at it my hand going towards my sword instinctively. I stopped short however when I realized it was just a mirror. I looked at myself quietly.
I was wearing a black tunic and black tights, the tunic was thin and light and was fitted for my frame perfectly. It didn't restrict me at all despite how tight it was. My face was hidden by the cowl around my mouth hiding any defining features. I was a Sheikiah a protector of the royal family that was destroyed by Ganondorf. I was a rebel. I looked at my face again. It was sharp and angular from years of hard training. I had no fat on me, and despite the fact that I was only 14 I looked far older. My blond hair had originally been brushed to the side out of my face, but the journey to Hyrule castle had been hard and my hair had become unruly falling into my clear ice blue eyes. That was one thing that made me different from Sheikiah, one thing that set me apart. What allowed me to stay hidden so easily. Suddenly a flash hit my eyes as I was thrusted into a memory from long ago, I was so small back than only four or five.
*flashback*
"Daddy Daddy! Why does Sheik have red eyes and I don't! I want my eyes to be red to!" I whined running to my father. He blinked a few times looking down at me as I ran from the door.
"Sheik said that I couldn't be a Sheikiah like you because of it!" I cried tears filling my blue eyes. My father shot a look at Sheik who shrank back.
"You have Mommy's eyes Link, that is why. You shouldn't be ashamed of your eyes. Sheik is wrong, you can be a Sheikiah without having the red eyes." My father had said I remember the sadness that I had felt I looked up at him with wide eyes.
"But I want to have eyes like you…"I had said Father merely smiled and ruffled my hair.
"Link, you cannot change what eye color you have. You have your mother's beautiful blue eyes. Take pride in that alright. Sheik and I are different but that doesn't mean that you are an outcast because your eyes are different remember that alright?" He had said. I remember the feeling happiness spread through me.
*End of Flashback*
"Mother…" I thought it had been seven years since my mother died. Killed by a rouge shadow demon that had escaped the shadow world. I didn't remember much about her, but every time I looked in the mirror seeing my eyes. That's all I could think about was her. I somehow knew deep down inside of me. It was my fault for her death. Something about me caused it.
I shook my head looking away from the mirror. Someone was bound to come back, and I needed to get down there before I lost my father's trail. I raced across the hallway not making a sound as I went down the steps. However I truly could have been as loud as I wanted, because screams suddenly raced upwards to my ears coming from down the stairs. It was high in the male register. Whoever it was, was in immense pain. I stopped again.
"Father…"I whispered and ran down the stairs. Eventually the stairs ended and I went to one door. It had a small light under the door frame like someone was burning a single candle light in the room.
"I see that you won't talk, not now at least. We are done for the day Sheikiah, but it will continue until you tell me where the hero is…I know you have him somewhere and I will tear the Lanayru Province apart piece by piece if I have to find him!" Ganondorf's voice growled getting closer and closer. My mind raced panicking, I still wasn't that good at magic, let alone magic to help hide me. Suddenly a mouth came over mine and I was pulled in to the shadows. I hissed grabbing the hand my eyes widening.
"Shhh it's me, brother…." Came the sound of Sheik's voice. I froze my eyes widening. Sheik? What in the goddesses name is Sheik doing here? We both froze as the door opened and out walked Ganondorf's towering frame he carried only a single candle on the candelabra. He stopped blinking a few times like he had just remembered something. He turned and looked directly at us. I shivered holding my breath. He couldn't see us? Could he? Sheik's hand tightened around my waist I could tell that he was thinking the same thing. I was frightened we had been spotted, but at the same time, I wasn't. I wanted to fight Ganondorf. Something within me urged to kill that man. Courage grew inside of me, but Ganondorf just merely shrugged whatever he saw away and continued. My body was shaking. He was torturing father! He needed to pay! He'd killed mother! He deserved to die! He needed to die.
"Calm down Link…" Sheik hissed in my ear and we appeared outside of the shadows. We both ran into the room quickly.
"Father!" Sheik whispered running to him as I watched the door. Father's head which hung in exhaustion snapped up his ruby eyes widened seeing us before turning hard with anger.
"What in Naryu's name are you doing here!?" He hissed as Sheik went to start undoing the spells around him.
"I was following Link after he snuck out after you." Sheik said, I glared at him for selling me out so quickly, but before I could respond father turned his attention to me.
"You did what!? You followed me! Link we have discussed this!" He growled I looked down.
"I'm sorry father. I wanted to know what you were doing. I'm sorry, but then you got captured." I explained. "I had to do something."
Sheik finished the spell and the bindings disappeared. Father fell from the wall. He looked dreadful. He was practically naked only his bottom undergarments remained and he was covered in cuts and burns. My eyes widened as Sheik took off his cloak wrapping our father figure in it.
"We must get out of here! The guards will be coming soon." Father said I nod hearing the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs.
"They're coming!" I hissed.
Sheik and I pulled out our swords as we sank into the shadows once again.
~Few days later~
*New Person's POV*
Darkness. That's all I have ever known, darkness and the harsh moonlight that covered my world, but I welcomed the darkness. I could see in it just fine. I grew up in it, and now I hated the light. I hated the entire world of light. So why was I here? Why was I here? I ran a hand through my raven black hair walking through the dead silent forest. It was well past midnight the bright silver moon high in the air. The only sound that could be heard was that of my black boots hitting the ground quietly displacing some leaves that crunched from their dryness as I smashed them under my boot.
"Right that's right. I was summoned here by Ganondorf." I thought bitterly. I let out a huge sigh. I hated him, I hated Ganondorf with every fiber of my being. Despite what most people thought, the whole damn world of light; I was not a willing servant of Ganondorf. There was only one person I hated more. That was the hero of time. He caused me so much pain, so much misery. It was because of him, that I would go into fights of rage so deep that I would slaughter thousands. Thousands of my own people.
It was by shire luck of the damn goddesses that love screwing with my already unrepairable life that Ganondorf had managed to capture me and put a binding spell on me. He'd used magic not even I had seen before, magic so strong that it's kept me bound to him since even before the hero of time.
There was a loud snap and I froze looking around quickly my eyes darted around. I couldn't see anything, but that didn't mean that something was out there.
"Who's there?" I called out my replica of the master sword appeared from the shadows. Of course I could never touch the real thing not without being burned severely. I was evil, literally the embodiment of everything evil inside the hero.
"Come this way shadow creature…." Came a voice so soft I barely heard it. I blinked a few times my instincts screaming at me to fight. "Come…." It said again. I took a few steps forward and stopped above me was a large plaque.
~Light Spirit Faron~
"Hell no! I'm not an idiot!" I growled taking a step back.
"Fear not Prince of Shadows," Came that same gruff voice. Suddenly a brilliant bright light came from in front of me. I hissed and covered my eyes. When I pulled my hand away blinking back spots from my eyes a tall slender yet heavily muscular man stood before me. He had white hair and white pupiless eyes. I yelped jumping back the shadows wrapping around me protectively. It coiled around my feet and legs ready to suck me into the safety of the shadows if needed.
"And why should I not try to kill you now!" I growled darkly flipping my sword nervously.
"Do not fear Prince of Shadows. I will not hurt you. I am here to aid you." The man said I glared at him darkly why the hell should I listen to him. His very presents unsettled me. Because, he looked exactly like me but a few inches taller than I was.
"Right listen to you? Who exactly are you? I wasn't just created yesterday. Why in the gods name would you try and aid me?" I said.
"You are bound to someone you despise. Greatly indeed. And there is only one way to free you from this bound." The man growled ignoring the question I asked him. I growled fiercely and attacked in a flash he blocked my moves with a huge sword, a double helix sword.
"I already know how to break the bound I have to kill the he~"
"You're wrong…" He said smiling confidently, it looked like he was hardly exerting himself. I stopped eyes widening. "There is another way, and I'm going to show you how you can exact your vengeance on the false king Ganondorf…" He said.
