Prevention

Apparently, despite disregarding the law, criminals respected the weather. Bereft of cases and forced to remain inside, Holmes was unsuccessfully trying to entertain himself by imagining ways to kill someone with snow. Just when he began to consider resorting to cocaine, a cry emanated from the sitting room. Rushing in, Holmes saw Watson on the floor, holding the hip bruised in yesterday's fall. Helping his friend onto the settee, he decided to stay and keep Watson company.

As he settled into the armchair, Holmes realized his friend had again prevented him from indulging in cocaine. This time, without even trying.

Getting this one to the requisite 100 words was tough. I kept having to dismiss little details I could add (or removing ones that I already had) and rewording things to be a few words shorter. I hope it didn't suffer for it.
