Chapter 2
AUSTIN'S POV
It was going to be a bad week. The sun that usually shone down on Miami was hidden behind dark, gray clouds that promised rain that would not come. There was too much paperwork on my desk, and there was not nearly enough time to complete it all and still have some semblance of a social life.
I stared at the paper, the words swam in front of my eyes. I, lazily, picked up the pen, and wrote something down, not even bothering to check if it was right. I was so tired. I had spent the night at Ally's, which might sound like a good thing, but it really wasn't. Ally had horrible nightmares since "the incident", and it broke my heart to see her like that, but I had to get some sleep, or I might die of exhaustion.
I glanced at the clock, 11:42 a.m. The sight brought a smile to my face. Only twenty more minutes and I would be done for the day. My job wasn't boring when I was out there, actually investigating, but the paperwork that came with it was just depressing, but I wasn't exactly free at twelve o'clock either. I had a date with Dez to go to the wedding invitations place and make sure all of them were sent out. Then, we had to go for our tux fitting, and God only knew how long that would take. I just wanted to go home and take a nap, but I picked up the pen and finished a few more sheets before I headed out into the cloudy day.
I picked Dez up from his house, and, instantly, I felt his excitement wash away all my fatigue. He was like a little kid that way, always excited. The car ride was short though, and soon, we were parked in front of the invitation place.
We got out of the car, and walked into the store. A little bell rang signaling our entry, and a smiling forty-something lady smiled at us from behind the counter. It seemed like nothing even remotely exciting was going on, and I mean nothing, We walked right up to the her, and Dez inquired about the invitations while I looked around the store. Almost instantly, the bell chimed again alerting us to more people entering the store. I looked at the door nonchalantly to see who else would waste their lives coming into such a boring place. That's when I heard: "Alright, everybody down on your knees! Now!"
I kicked into police mode. "Whoa. Whoa. Calm down." There were three of them. Two of them were tall, about six feet, but the other one was pudgy and fat. To the inexperienced eye, they would have looked like idiots, but I knew that was wrong. They had guns, and it didn't look like they were afraid to use them.
"Don't tell us to calm down! Get down on the ground, and nobody gets hurt!"
If I had been the only one in there, I wouldn't have hesitated to pull out my gun; however, there were other people here, including my best friend. I nodded at them, and we all knelt down.
"Put your hands up! Don't make any sudden movements, or I'll shoot your head off!" The short, fat one screamed at us. Then, he made a beeline for the cash register. The other two stayed behind to keep an eye on us. He moved quickly, stuffing all of the cash into a large trash bag, and pointed his gun at the lady and asked where the safe was and what the code was. I had to admire this lady, she wasn't even crying or anything. She told him where the safe was and what the code was indifferently, as if it didn't matter to her. He moved rapidly, and soon, the safe was empty. I knew I had to do something to stop them, but I didn't want Dez or the lady to get hurt. I ran a couple scenarios in my head, but they all ended up with Dez dead, and I knew Trish would kill me for that. I was jarred from my thoughts when I heard the guy say: "Hey, you! Ginger! Come here!"
I looked over at Dez; he was petrified. This changed the whole game. I thought this was a robbery. Did they want a hostage too? Dez looked me right in the eye before standing up and walking towards them. I watched them carefully.
"If you don't want him to die, you won't call the police until we have a good enough head start." He jammed his gun against Dez's head, and Dez squeaked. I thought now would be a good time to act, but they had Dez at gunpoint, and there was no way of ensuring his safety. They walked out the door, Dez alongside them. I couldn't believe what had just happened. There was no way that I had just let that happen. Despite my disbelief, I kept asking myself the same question: who would rob a stationery store?
(A/N) I know, I know, two author's notes in one chapter is just too much, but I hope you enjoyed the second chapter. Let me know what you think. Also, I just want to point out that there is something REALLY fishy about that kidnapping. Thanks again for reading!
