"No one invited you," Bonnie snaps not breaking Klaus's gaze. She had heard stories of the Mikaelsons. Stories of the terror and pain they inflicted on people. But she was not scared of them, especially not Klaus.
"And here I thought our invitations just got lost in the post," Klaus chuckles, "My mistake."
"And here I thought monsters as old as you would understand when you're not welcome."
"If we only ventured into places we were welcome, we wouldn't go anywhere," Rebekah declares sharp eyes on Bonnie.
"Niklaus, stop being patronizing," Elijah finally speaks up, "We didn't come here to start an altercation. Not if we plan on staying in this region."
"Staying?!" Bonnie exclaims.
Klaus hasn't taken his eyes off Bonnie. Her exclamation causes the smile on his lips to grow. "Yes. Mystic Falls, long before anyone in this room existed, was home to the village we grew up in. When we heard there were people settling on the land, we decided it was time to come back. Then we heard the Bennett witches had taken up residence here and well, I just had to see for myself." He looks her up and down. "I'm not disappointed in my choice."
Bonnie sneers at him. "I won't have you go through this town slaughtering people. You're old enough to know not to mess with a Bennett Regent. If you don't know, I'll be glad to show you."
"I'd like to see you threaten my family again, little witch," Rebekah hisses inching closer.
Klaus puts out a hand to stop her. "Enough, Rebekah." She glares at him, but stops her approach to Bonnie. Klaus's soft look is back on his face. Bonnie can easily see how he is able to lure people into traps. He is charming and beautiful, and if she was not a witch, she might have been easily swayed by him as well. "I have no interest in picking fights with you, Bonnie." Her name drips off his lips in way only someone with an ancient tongue can formulate. "You're a smart girl. I can see that in your eyes. You're not going to cause unnecessary chaos. So, I'll make you a deal. You don't bother us and we won't bother you."
Bonnie raises an eyebrow. "You think I'll just sit back while you feed on innocent people."
"We don't make spectacles of ourselves when we settle in a particular town," Elijah interjects, "Especially not in a very small town like this."
Bonnie returns her gaze to Klaus. She wants to strike him right now, but there were too many civilians present. Besides, striking him would start a war she wasn't ready for in her first few hours of being Regent. "Fine. But make no mistake, I will not hesitate to protect every innocent life in this town from you and your family. I don't care how old you are and I don't care how much magic it takes. One dead body and I will end all of you."
Klaus looks amused more than he looks threatened while it's clear Rebekah is restraining herself from ripping out Bonnie's throat. The way Klaus looks at the witch is a look Bonnie can't quite place. It makes her uncomfortable like she's naked in front of him when she's clearly clothed.
At that moment, Sheila comes up behind Bonnie. She had been so busy saying goodbye as guests trickled out that she didn't notice the Mikaelsons had approached her granddaughter and she hadn't felt their presence. It was strange. As Regent, all her magical senses had been so heightened, but as soon as she had passed the title to Bonnie it was like a switch had been flipped off.
"The party is over," Sheila states with an emotionless venom at the Mikaelsons, "I believe it's time for you to leave."
Klaus bows once again in his mocking way. "Of course. I hope to see you again...Bonnie."
Her name from his lips sent a shiver up her spine. With one final glance at her, Klaus and his siblings left the building disappearing as quickly as they had just been standing in front of them.
Once they were gone, Sheila turns Bonnie towards her to look her in the eyes. "Why didn't you signal for one of us to come help you with them?"
"Because I was handling it. That's my job now isn't it? I won't be intimidated by Klaus Mikaelson or his family."
Sheila lets out a deep sigh. She runs a hand over Bonnie's cheek. "That fire in you is the same one I had when I was younger. I know it's only been a few hours, but, baby girl, being Regent means picking your battles. The Mikaelson family are the original vampires. They are old, too old to care much about human life. They are dangerous and going against them could mean your life. Using all your fight against them is not worth it."
Bonnie nods her head in understanding. Even though she understood, she still didn't want to back down. She knew in her bones this wasn't going to be the last time she had an encounter with Klaus Mikaelson and she wanted to be ready.
