Thor is supposed to be about two or maybe two and a half at this time. Enjoy the chapter:)

Frigga

Frigga watched the celebrations on the streets from the window of Loki's chamber. She had no mind in taking part in them. She had more important things to attend to.

With a smile on her lips she turned to the cradle. Loki slumbered peacefully inside. Frigga had spent the last few days in his chambers, taking care of him. She did not want any of the servants to assist her. Not yet. Not as long as he was still so small.

She feared the blue of his skin might show and his bright, blue eyes might turn dark red. Only her maidservant Tavi was allowed to assist her with the young prince. Frigga would not have his secret revealed, before it had hardly even had the chance to be guarded.

But mainly, she felt the unfounded need to be there, so he would not be alone when he woke. She wanted him to see her face, hear her voice and know that he would never be alone again.

Frigga had made the unspoken promise to him, that he would have a good life, a great life and that she would always be there to take care of him.

His mother had not wanted him. For Frigga he was all she had wished for. So long had she and Odin tried to have a second child. A year ago she had had her first miscarriage, half a year later another. She had already given up all hope for a second child and here it was now; small and sweet and hers.

A knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts and she could not help but smile, for she already knew who it was. "Yes?"

The door opened ajar and Thor peeked in, standing on the tip of his toes, his little hands still resting on the handle of the door.

Thor was eager to see Loki as often as possible ever since Odin and Frigga had told him he was his brother. But the elder prince had little patience and they had forbidden him to disturb his brother's rest or be alone in a room with him, because they feared he might accidently harm him, so he always looked for an excuse to be near Loki's chambers.

Frigga smiled at him. "What is it darling?"

"I just wanted to see you," he said.

The queen could not help, but smile even wider. How could she resist such sweetness?

"Come here," she said gently.

He closed the door in a childlike attempt to be quiet, only making more noise and toddled over to his mother. Frigga lifted him up on her lap and kissed his flaxen hair affectionately.

"Is he awake mother," Thor asked, peering over to the cradle.

Frigga shook her head. "No dear, he is sleeping."

Thor grimaced impatiently. "Why is he sleeping all the time," he complained.

"Do you see how small he is," she asked.

Thor nodded.

"He needs to sleep, so he'll become tall and strong one day."

"Like father?"

Frigga nodded. "Just like your father."

For a moment none of them said a word, as Thor turned to her. "Can I stay mother? I'll be really quiet. I promise."

"Yes Thor, you can stay."

So they both sat in silence and watched Loki sleep from the window. Frigga was surprised how quiet her elder kept. He did not move and he did not make a sound. He did not even blink. He sat still as a statue, his gaze steadily fixed on the cradle, as if he feared to miss anything if he looked away for a mere second.

"When will we wake up," he asked after a while, his patience growing thin.

"I don't know, but I think it's best if we let him sleep," Frigga said quietly. "What do you say? We'll just get Tavi to look after him for a while and then we'll take a walk in Idunn's gardens."

Thor frowned. "Not yet," he pleaded.

"I'll tell you something. You can come back here before you go to bed and wish Loki a good night," Frigga offered.

Thor's face lit up immediately. "Yes!"

Satisfied with his mother's suggestion he climbed down from her lap and waited for her to stand up.

She raised and took his hand. Just as she touched the handle of the door, Loki began to cry.

"Loki is awake mother," Thor called excitedly. "He doesn't want us to go."

Frigga let go of his hand and took Loki out of his bed. He stopped wailing, as she returned to the sill, where she had just sat and cradled him in her arms.

Thor still stood at the door, suddenly uncertain.

Frigga gave him a reassuring smile and patted the free space beside her. "Come here dear."

Hesitantly he approached her on his stubby legs and climbed the low sill, sitting as close to his mother, as he possibly could. He watched his brother's face with utter curiosity.

"You don't need to cry Loki," he told him and gently wiped away the rest of the tears from his chubby cheeks with his little fingers. "I won't leave you."

Frigga smiled faintly, stirred by the sweetness of his words.

"Can I hold him," he asked, looking up to her with big, blue, pleading eyes.

Frigga hesitated a moment. "Fine," she said finally. "But let me help you."

Carefully she laid Loki in Thor's small arms, always supporting his upper back and his head with one arm, the other she put around Thor's shoulders to support Loki's lower back with her other hand as well. Like that she could still hold Loki if Thor let go of him.

"Always look out for his head," she warned.

Loki chortled happily in Thor's arms and snuggled closer to his chest. Thor glanced up to his mother proudly.

"You're doing great," she told him and smiled.

He leaned down to press a gentle kiss on Loki's forehead. "You never need to be afraid," he told him. "I will always be there to protect you Loki."

Frigga swallowed, holding back the tears welling up in her eyes and kissed Thor's golden head. My sweet little boy she thought. I know you will

They sat in silence for a long time and soon, Loki had fallen asleep in Thor's arms.

I hope you liked the chapter:) I think the next one is going to be a bit more essential for the plot.
