Chapter Three: Of Princes and Princesses
Previously on Big Fish, I love you!-
The waters whirl around them dangerously as Shizuru tries to break free from the chains that bind her.
She growls angrily, baring many rows of extra-sharp shark teeth.
"Let me at her! Let me go! Let me go! I can smell the blood-"
Laying her fins upon each of Shizuru's cheeks, Natsuki pulls her beloved's face towards her.
"No, Shizuru! Repeat after me: Fish are friends. Fish are friends."
As they both begin chanting, a drunken Midori starts swimming around them, joining in a singsong voice of her own.
"Let's keep eating. Let's keep drinking. Let's keep eating, drinking, eating…what do we do, we eat and drink…"
Underneath the boat and away from all of the commotion, Mai ushers Mikoto away.
"C'mon Mikoto. I have to find Takumi!"
….Just kidding, wrong story.
Sorrypleasedon'thurtme. Ahem. Let's try this again.
What I meant was…last time, on Big Fish, I love you!-
Mermaid princess Natsuki finally manages to meet the seawitch to have the spell cast on her that would enable to her to set foot on land.
After agreeing to Viola's propositions, the unsuspecting mermaid princess swims upward, noticing a shadow near the surface.
With a wave of her tail, Natsuki glides towards the mysterious shape and looks at it.
Underneath the pale moonlight, the blue haired maiden sees the heart breakingly handsome face of the prince.
"Ehhh," Natsuki shrugs, "Not my problem."
With that, she swims ashore as the fair prince sinks lower and lower into the ocean, unconscious.
Crash!
It just so happens to be that perhaps fate does not wish for Viola to have a peaceful day.
After the previous visitor leaves, the seawitch walks back to her throne about to engage herself in a game of monopoly. It is then that the second visitor appears- this time falling in from the roof.
The hydra groans.
"How many times do I have to tell these people? The entrance is that way!"
Without sparing a thought for the poor boy's mishap, Viola uses her magic to bind him with seaweed and fling him as far away as she can. She then wipes her hands together and looks at the mess he had created.
"Great. Now there's a hole on the top of my evil den!"
She was about to bend down to pick up the rubble when a thought suddenly occurs, stopping her.
"Wait. Was that the prince? He should really take responsibility for all this damage. I'll use this time that he's away to take over the kingdom as compensation. I need more vacuum fish to clean up this lair anyway."
With that in mind, Shizuru waves for her gate guardian to join her on the quest.
Meanwhile, by an island far far away…a mysterious figure cautiously jumps upon the deck of the local fishermen's boat.
Hiding behind the many supply boxes, the shadowed form starts pulling on the fishnet. Little by little, the net opens to reveal the many fish that had been caught.
The figure licks her lips, taking in a deep breath before biting down on the palest, most delicious-looking patch of skin.
"Yowwwww!"
A curvaceous fisherman's daughter rushes out of the captain's cabin to see what the commotion is about, only to find a howling prince Reito jumping around with a someone attached (note: biting on) to his hand. Shaking her head, Mai yells out towards the scene in front of her.
"Mikoto, let go this instant!"
The cat girl immediately stops biting. With a pout on her face, Mikoto turns to Mai as tears threaten to come from her eyes.
"M-Maiiii. It's not a real fish! He's a fake…"
Mai rushes over to console the sobbing girl, rubbing her on the head as she pulls the other girl into her arms.
With a frown, she turns to address the stranger on her boat.
"What- I mean, who are you?"
With a grandiose flick of his now slimy hair, prince Reito straightens his seaweed covered back and flashes the girls before him a charming smile. Gracefully, he walks closer to the fisherman's daughter.
"Me? I am a prince. Prince Reito, at your service. Anything you need, I can ask my servants to do for you."
The putrid smell of live fish hits her nose and Mai winces, unimpressed by the prince's noble gesture.
"Need? I need you to take a bath first, is more like it."
She proceeds to throw him a soap bar before heading off to cook something for Mikoto.
Behind her, the prince blushes as he looks at the small present.
"Finally, someone who understands me! A bath!"
At that moment, Prince Reito fell in love.
Back to our main heroine-
After receiving the spell, Princess Natsuki has since traveled to the surface of the ocean, yet is at a loss as to which direction would lead to land.
Round and round she searches, until eventually Viola's magic starts to kick in and she finds herself unable to breathe and swim using the innate ability she is born with.
She gasps and flounders, about to sink, when suddenly out of nowhere a large net manages to catch her and pull her atop a majestic ship. Once pulled upon the deck, she breaks free of the net and glares at her kidnappers.
The crew shudders and backs away.
Near the mast of the ship, a pink haired girl whispers to the captain conspiratorially.
"Captain Tate. We are still unable to fish up Prince Reito from the ocean. Seeing how he fell off during the storm, I suspect that he is lost to us forever."
Tate looks into the distance and sighs at his predicament while the girl continues.
"I suggest that we put blame on the girl we conveniently caught, and offer her as captive to the king as the one who murdered prince."
Again the captain sighs, bemoaning the tragic helpless nature of his supposed-to-be heroic character…and for having lost the crowned prince to the waves below.
All of a sudden, footsteps interrupt the two from their inner and outer rambling, and they pause to see the country's most famous historian approach.
"Shiho, I will have to disagree!"
The curly pink-haired girl narrows her eyes.
"And why would that be? My ultimate plan will save the lives of everyone on this boat from the king's wrath."
Chie the historian waggles her handsome eyebrows flirtatiously.
"Because. I've seen the girl, and she's cute. I say we drop all thoughts about Prince Reito and make her the prince instead."
The other two stare at her unbelievingly while their brain reboots. An eon passes by (while the entire cast conveniently does not age nor notice), before the spiral haired girl manages to speak.
"What?! You cannot just change the prince's gender like that!"
Chie merely shrugs and clicks her fingers.
"Aoi!"
The girl addressed quickly appears upon being called, curtsying to the historian in her black dress before nodding to the others in front of her. Without skipping a beat, Chie places an arm around the brunette's shoulders.
"Say Aoi. You are prince Reito's personal maid. If I ask you to serve as witness that the prince is actually a girl, would you do it?"
Aoi takes a quick look at the beautiful now-human mermaid and nods. At this, Chie claps her hands together.
"There, you see? Prince Reito has been away since he was young, and no one in the country really knows what he looks like. If both the keeper of the historical records and the personal maid insists that he's actually Princess Reito, who is there to disagree?"
Shiho growls.
"It won't work. I will definitely not agree to this…this ridiculous proposition! Tate, say something!"
The captain takes a deep courageous breath in preparation to break through his meager silent role in this largely female-predominant story, only to be interrupted by the sight of Chie whisking out a pen and some paper. She starts writing erratically.
"If that is how you want it, I'll make sure you'll get a good place in the history texts! Let's see…Captain Tate and his first mate Shiho, charged with the task of bringing the Crown Prince back to his homeland…fails midway by his lack of ability to protect the prince from his untimely death. Word has it that he left the prince in such deplorable and dirty conditions that the prince jumped off to commit suicide!"
The captain visibly deflated as his first mate's complexion paled.
Chie and Aoi high-five each other in their success.
"Princess Reito it is!"
End.
Next Time, on Big Fish, I love you!-
Viola calmly sips her tea as her ocean minions attack the fishing boat. Truthfully, a larger ship would serve her pirating purposes better. But without any other option, this one would have to do. If only-
The edge of a large nail crashes into her tea set, breaking her line of thought.
With a frown, the seawitch looks up to find her army being mercilessly clawed, scratched, and bitten.
The fisherwomen on the boat start to cheer while a catgirl swiftly jumps from one opponent to the next, slaying each of them.
"Go Mikoto! Let them have it!"
Slightly annoyed at having to take over the boat herself, Viola gracefully flies onto the deck.
The catgirl instantly rushes forth, only to find the crimson eyed enchantress still standing there with a glass of milk magically conjured into her hands.
"Mikoto, was it? Stop!"
The catgirl freezes, her eyes widening as she eyes the milk.
Viola smirks.
"Mikoto, sit!"
The girl sat.
