What's in a name
Chapter 3:
"So, between Blaine and you it's all over ?" Finn asked as they were sitting in a coffee shop called Cups, just around Kurt's block. That was the farthest from home Finn had convinced Kurt to go the Sunday after he got to New York. Kurt had been adamant that they'd stay at home for the longest of times, telling Finn that New York was really no interest. It didn't take long for Finn to realize that Kurt was afraid of stepping out by fear of seeing the man whose apartment he'd fled from that night.
"I guess. I mean, he was supposed to come this week end and we were supposed to do it for the first time but he couldn't even wait for one week, he told me he missed me, that's why he did that. Imagine how in love with me he must have been to not being able to wait for a freaking week." Kurt said, letting out all the thoughts he'd kept in for a week. Finn gave him a sympathetic look.
"Man, he's been a pretty shitty boyfriend." Finn said. "I mean, I've always liked the dude because he was kinda cool and you seemed to like him a lot so I trusted you. And I know we've had issues but I just felt so bad about him this week, it's why I came here, he looked crushed, barely talking to anyone and, since I didn't know what happened I just assumed you guys were having a fight." Finn said. "And I guess I don't really know what to think about all this because I want to punch Blaine in the face for hurting you, but at the same time I kinda grew to like the guy and I spent all week long wanting to pat his shoulder, telling him that everything would be fine."
"It's okay not to know which side you're on Finn, I get it." Kurt said softly. "Could you please just stop talking about the state he was in all week long ? Because I've been stopping myself from doing anything stupid like take his calls and tell him that I forgive him and that we could go back together and-"
"Then why don't you do it ?" Finn cut in. "If you want it too, what's the issue ?"
"The issue is that it's not something I can just forget about, we can never go back together just like before or he wouldn't realize just how much he hurt me."
"Yeah but, dude, you're both suffering when you could not." Finn tried to understand Kurt's logic even though Kurt wasn't expecting him to get it in the end. The Finchel couple was such a rollercoaster when Kurt and Blaine were steady.
"I wanna prove him and myself that I'm a grown man capable of living my life alone, that I don't need him or anyone." Kurt said, repeating the words that had kept him going the night before.
"And you're doing quite a good job at it aren't you ?" Finn asked with a smirk. "Sleeping with a hot guy on your first night out !" Kurt smacked his shoulder with a small grin.
"God, shut up !"
"No I'm being serious ! Everyone has their ways of moving on, your way isn't a bad one as long as you- you know, use protection and everything." He finished awkwardly.
"Oh my god this is becoming embarrassing." Kurt said, blushing as he tried to hide his face in his hands.
"What I mean is that-"
"I get what you mean and, thank you Finn. Really." Kurt said with a small smile.
"No problem little bro." Finn said as he ruffled Kurt's hair. Kurt sighed, trying to sound exasperated but it only came out as content.
"So what are your plans now that the army didn't work out ?" He asked after a while of silence. "Are you going to stick with helping out Mr Schue ?"
"Well I still haven't figured everything out. I think I'm going to stay at McKinley until I have everything figured out." An uneasy smile had settled on his face and Kurt felt bad for bringing that up. He placed his hand on top of Finn's to squeeze it reassuringly.
"I'm sure everything'll work out for you. After-" Kurt cut off when everything went black. Two things, Kurt assumed they were hands, had just settled over his eyes.
"Missed me princess ?" Hot breath caressed his ear as a warm voice rung around his cheek.
"Who is this ?" Kurt asked, slightly panicked. "Finn, who the hell is this ?"
"I have no idea dude, never seen this guy in my life." Finn said, sounding clueless.
"Oh please, I'm sure you'll remember that." The voice said. A second later, warm lips were dropping kisses across the back of Kurt's neck. "I'd do a lot more to make you remember but we're in the middle of a coffee shop and I'm pretty sure you won't need it since it was only two days ago." The voice added. Kurt gulped hard, remembering the feeling of those lips, the feeling of those large hands and that voice.
"Please stop, it's my brother you're talking about !" Finn exclaimed sounding somewhere between confused and shocked. The hands let go off his eyes then, the hot breath vanishing from Kurt's neck.
"Your brother ? Damn ! And here I thought he'd be your boyfriend !" The man said in a false defeated tone.
Kurt could finally turn his head to see the stranger he'd met two nights ago. That was just his luck. He'd known he shouldn't have left his apartment ! The man was grinning at Finn now, as though he was amused by his reaction. His green eyes were glinting with something that looked like mischief but all Kurt could see was those eyes. They were the only thing Kurt had managed to remember after that night, his eyes and his... member. Kurt felt really superficial for only remembering that and nothing more, even the man's voice had eluded his memory until he whispered those words in his ear.
"Yeah, no, I'm definitely not his boyfriend. I love this little dude like crazy but he's just my little brother." Finn said, sounding uncomfortable.
"Could you drop the little for a minute ? I'm only younger than you by a week." Kurt said, focusing solely on Finn to avoid looking at the other who was watching the exchange with an amused smirk.
"Well, I, for one, can assure you that he's not small at all, I could even say that he's quite impressive for a princess." The man said, his smirk widening.
"Dude no ! Eww !" Finn exclaimed as he pressed a finger in both his ears.
"Oh my god ! Will you shut up ?" Kurt asked, his cheeks beet red. "Had I known you were such an annoying meerkat I would certainly not have followed you anywhere." Kurt said trying to fight his blush.
"Well you did, and I really don't think you regret that, do you ?" The man asked, his smirk not wavering for one second. "But that's not the question here." He added, using a very serious tone.
"And what would that question be, then ?" Kurt asked, his annoyed tone in full mode. The stranger's smile widened as he took a seat opposite to Kurt.
"It would be how far down does that blush go ?" He said, trying on a seductive tone. Kurt only snorted. "What's so funny ?"
"Oh nothing. Just the tiny fact that you actually think you're welcome to sit with us after mistaking my brother for my boyfriend and trying to break us up." Kurt stated calmly after managing to take control of himself again and toning down his blush.
"Oh so you're the grudge holding kind of guy ? Should've guessed." By this point, Kurt was seriously considering sewing the guy's lips so that smirking would become a painful affair.
"You should ask his ex boyfriend of two years about that." Finn spoke up from beside Kurt. Kurt elbowed him in the ribs, not wanting to bring Blaine into this but it was too late, the damage was already done.
"A long time ex boyfriend ? Never would've guessed, you were quite fierce for the relationship kind of guy." The man said with a grin when Finn's hands came to his ears again. "Is your brother five or something ?" He added, looking directly at Kurt in the eyes. Kurt tried not to blush but the memories of the night they shared kept coming back and it was hard not to get embarrassed.
"At least he doesn't go around bragging about his sex life in public spaces." Kurt retorted with a false sweet smile. The smirk was back again.
"That's because I doubt this guy even has a sex life to brag about sweetheart." He said.
"Okay, I guess it's time for you to leave." Kurt said, getting really irritated by the man's attitude.
"Well, I wouldn't want to take any more of your precious time princess." The green eyed man said as he stood up. He took his cup of coffee from the table and walked by Kurt. "Goodbye sweetheart." He added with a smirk as he ruffled his hair. Kurt caught his arm to stop him.
"Don't do that !" He snapped. He looked back at the taller man and found him smirking again as he stared at his arm where Kurt was still holding him. Kurt blushed again at how familiar the gesture was and let go off him.
"You're all kind of adorable Kurt." He said with a grin, stressing on the name before taking off towards the door of the coffee shop. When he had disappeared, Kurt let out a breath he'd been holding for a while and let his head fall in his arms on the table.
"Dude, that guy is so into you !" Finn said, clapping his brother on the shoulder. Kurt shot him a glare.
"That guy is not into me nor am I into him okay ? He's even more obnoxious in the flesh than in memory-"
"You would know about the flesh thing wouldn't you ?" Finn asked with a grin.
"Oh my god will you shut up ? Will everyone please shut up !" Kurt asked feeling more and more embarrassed than he'd ever been. Why had he ever told Finn about it all ? "Let's just go home, okay ?" Kurt said, standing up. Finn et out a short laugh but stood up anyway.
Kurt was torn between feeling irritated and grateful because although Finn had a tendency of annoying him, they really had a brotherly relationship now, didn't they ? That's what brothers do, they tell secrets to each other and tease each other but are here to comfort the other. Kurt's lips stretched into a smile as they exited the coffee shop.
"Thanks for the boyfriend thing." Sebastian said as he flopped on the couch next to his sister who was working for some final.
"Did you just say boyfriend ?" She asked turning to look at her brother with a false hopeful glint in her eyes. "Who is it, tell me all about it ! Was it love at first sight ?" She asked in a mocking tone.
"Oh you have no idea ! I saw him on a bench in the park and we looked at each other and I felt this warmth in my heart, like I was drawn to him. We talked for a while, we have so much in common you can't even imagine, he's romantic and elegant and gorgeous and I... What can I say, I'm in love Marion." She threw a pillow at his face and they both started laughing.
"God can you be stupid sometimes !" She said with another laugh. "So I'm guessing you weren't talking about a boyfriend that'd be yours." She added.
"That guy is not even my type so no, he's definitely not my boyfriend. He's not Kurt's either though." He added.
"Oh my god could you be even more cryptic ! What the hell are you talking about ? Who's Kurt ?" She asked.
"My last fuck ? You know, the one with a grade A ass." He said and a light of understanding lit up in her eyes.
"You remember his name ? Well that's cute."
"Yeah, what wasn't cute was the guy's face when I called him Kurt's boyfriend." Sebastian remarked.
"Why ?" Marion asked, confusion evident in her eyes.
"Cause he was his brother. I kinda made a fool of myself since I assumed from your saying that they were boyfriends."
"Wait a minute. Did you, Sebastian Smythe, willingly meet one of your conquest after getting rid of them ?" Marion asked with an exaggerated impressed tone. Sebastian rolled his eyes.
"He lives across the street, it's not like I wasn't doomed to run into him anyway." Sebastian explained. "And I only went to see them to have a little fun watching a couple bicker and break up because of me."
"Getting a bit defensive are we ?" Marion asked with a smirk.
"Not getting defensive, not as much as his tool of a brother when I thought he was Kurt's boyfriend." Sebastian snorted derisively at the thought of Finn.
"I kinda get it, you'd probably barf as much as I would if somebody mistook you for my boyfriend." She explained, laughing when Sebastian gestured as if he was about to puke.
"At least that'd get you some action." Sebastian gave back. She poked him in the chest in return.
"And so, what brought that need to break them up anyway ?" She asked with curiosity.
"First there was no need." He said mimicking air quotes. "And second, I thought it wouldn't be so bad to have a booty call right across the street." He explained. She snorted at that.
"Yeah, because his first reaction after this guy breaks up with his boyfriend because of you, would be to drag you to the nearest bathroom and fuck you. Seems legit." She said in a sarcastic tone.
"That plan seems quite pleasant." Sebastian bit back with exaggerated dreamy eyes.
