When they got to the scene there was thick black smoke billowing out of the building as Drill Boy and Shadow Maru, who had flown and gotten there first, helped people climb out the windows and set them on the ground.
Hana got out and Dekkado transformed, "Is everyone out?" he asked.
"I think this is the last of them." Drill Boy said as he set two more people on the ground. "Too bad Duke went back to England, we could really use him right now," he added as he looked back at the building.
"My baby, my little girl she's not here," a woman cried as she searched the people who had been set out.
"Where was she?" Hana asked as she ran over to the woman.
"In our apartment, she was taking a nap I only left long enough to come down and get the mail, when I tried to go back up the stairs were on fire. Please you have to get her out, she's only three she's probably terrified. Please you've got to save my baby," the woman sobbed.
"We'll get her out, what apartment is your's" Hana asked.
"Fifty one on the fifth floor, that's our living room window there," the woman told her pointing out the window.
"Okay we're going to do everything we can to get her out." Hana assured her then turned to Dekkado, "Do you have any way to tell where she is?"
"No, the fire makes it impossible for us to identify any heat signatures in there," Dekkado told her.
"How soon will the fire department be here?" Hana asked.
"About five more minutes, there's a restaurant burning on the other side of town and most of the trucks were there," McCrane told her.
Hana tore a strip off of the bottom of her shirt and tied it over her mouth and nose then turned to Dekkado and said, "Put me in that window."
"Are you crazy, that's too dangerous," another officer who had just gotten to the scene said as he walked up to her.
"Look I became a police officer so I could help people, not sit around worrying about my own safety" Hana said then turned and looked expectantly up as Dekkado finished transforming into J-Decker.
"You could be killed in there," he said as he picked her up.
"I'd rather die in there trying to help than spend the rest of my life wondering if that little girl would still be alive if I had tried to get her out," Hana told him with enough determination to keep him from arguing with her.
He nodded slightly, "Just be careful," he told her.
"I will." She said as she slipped off of his hand and into the window.
Hana quickly made her way to the bedrooms, the smoke burned her eyes and was so think that it made it almost impossible to see more than a foot in front of her. She searched the first room that looked like it was a child's room, but found no sign of anyone then headed to the other room. As she stepped into another room she was relieved to hear a child sobbing hysterically and calling for her mommy over the roar of the flames. She got over to the bed and pulled back a blanket to find the little girl curled up in a ball cling to a white kitten as she cried.
"It's going to be alright, I'm going to take you to your mom," she said as she picked the girl up and pulled the blanket back around her and over her head to protect her from the smoke.
As Hana came back into the living room her heart sank when she found a wall of flames between her and the window. She pulled out the communicator that connected directly to the robots com link systems, "Dekkado?" she said trying not to panic.
"Are you alright?" "Where are you?" "We thought you were dead," Dekkado, McCrane and Dumpson all said at the same time.
"I'm fine and so is the little girl, but I can't get back out the way I came in, it's covered in flames," she said taking a step back as the flames inched closer then cried out as the floor gave out behind her and her foot went through, she pulled her foot out just as flames shot up through the hole from below. All of a sudden two huge hands came through the window and wall and wrapped around her.
When the hands opened she was back outside, "I thought you said you couldn't tell where anyone was in there, how did you know we were there?" she asked trying to keep her voice from shaking and her mind off of just how close she had been to dying.
"The communication device has a tracking signal, so I could tell where it was," J-Decker told her, "Are you alright?" he asked.
"I'm fine," she replied then turned to look at the building as it collapsed. "Looks like you got us out of there just in time." She said as he set her down then she gasped as excruciating pain shot through her ankle when she put her weight on it.
"I thought you said you were fine," Dumpson said as he came over and knelt down trying to get a better look at her injured leg.
"I am, it's just a scratch." She said then turned as the woman ran up and took her daughter.
"Thank you, thank you so much." The woman sobbed as she hugged her daughter.
"I was just doing my job," Hana replied.
"And now you're just going to go have that leg looked at," Dumpson said as he picked her up and carried her over to one of the ambulances.
Once the paramedic had told them it wasn't serious but would need stitches and had put a temporary bandage on it, Dekkado drove her to the hospital to have it properly treated.
When Hana came out of the hospital on crutches she was shocked to find herself quickly surrounded by seven robots.
"What are you all doing here?" she asked.
"We had nothing better to do so we thought we would wait here and see how you were doing," Power Joe told her.
"I thought you said it wasn't that bad, why are you on crutches?" Dumpson asked.
"It's not that bad, it just got cut a little deeper than I thought, it needed a few stitches and the doctor said if it had been any deeper it would have gone through the tendon so he doesn't want me putting any weight on it for a while," Hana explained.
"And how many is a few stitches," Shadow Maru asked raising an eye ridge.
Sighing Hana said, "Sixteen, eight on each side of my leg where the board cut it."
"You're hurt that badly and they just let you walk out of there on your own?" Dumpson demanded.
"It's really not that bad," Hana insisted.
"Sure it's not, we've seen Yuuta have to get half that many stitches and he was in excruciating pain for weeks," Gun Max said.
"Not to mention he nearly went crazy when it started itching while it healed," Drill Boy added.
"Please just tell me this won't end up with you not being able to work for long, if they try giving us another new partner I think I'll go crazy," Shadow Maru said.
Hana couldn't help smiling, "I may be stuck in the office unless you guys absolutely need me with you, but I convinced the doctor to let me go back to work as long as I stay off my feet and keep my foot up most of the time" she told them.
"Good, now let's get you home so you can get some rest," Dekkado said as he transformed and opened the door for her.
"You've earned their respect," Dekkado said as he drove her home.
"What do you mean?" Hana asked.
"What you did today, you really impressed us all and earned our respect, I have a feeling you won't have any more problems getting them to accept you," Dekkado told her.
"I was just doing my job." Hana replied as she leaned her head against the window and started to doze off as the pain killers she had been given for her leg started to make her tired.
"You did a lot more than just your job, I can't think of many officers who would have run into that building without knowing for sure the girl was still alive." Dekkado told her.
"Just want to help people." Hana mumbled before falling asleep.
