On to Chapter Three
Chris stared at the wall. He watched as the wizarding family he had found ran through the red brick fearlessly one by one. After each one had "entered" the wall Chris could see a magic ripple spread through the stone. Chris smirked and walked through it.
"Cool." He muttered looking at all the bustling people, the robes swirling and trunks clanking along the ground. The family that he had followed through was nowhere to be found, lost within the swarms of people who were hurrying to load the train. Chris hurried to follow their example; he didn't want to stand out.
The train was crowded, but Chris managed to secure a compartment for himself. He didn't want to endanger any of the students if he were to get a visit from a demon. He carefully secured the door, so that he would not be barged in upon and relaxed on the booth. It would be a long trip to the school and that left a lot of time for Chris to think.
He stared out the window, concentrating on finding the link to his brother. Wyatt would understand how Chris was feeling and, perhaps, would even give him some advice for the upcoming year. Chris knew that he would exhaust himself quickly if he had to ward his magic everywhere he went; his parents had confiscated all of his amulets and other protections when they decided to send him to Hogwarts.
What's the matter, Chris? His brother responded. Chris grinned, his brother's quick answers always reassured him that there was someone who cared.
I was wondering if you knew of anyway to set up permanent wards around me, without supplies, so I didn't have to worry about demons during the year, Chris asked.
His brother was silent for a moment. Wy? Chris called, worried that his older sibling had gotten distracted.
In response a flurry of bright blue lights lit up his compartment as his brother orbed in. "Wy!"
The blond haired boy grinned at the other. "Hey, Chris." His hand snaked out to ruffle his siblings hair regardless of the youngers struggles to dodge.
"What are you doing here?" Chris asked. "Couldn't you have just told me a way to erect a shield?"
The twice-blessed shook his head. "You don't have enough power to create a permanent shield." A frown crossed his face as he tilted his head. "Mom took all of you supplies right?"
Chris nodded, banishing the image of the brunette woman shattering crystals over his head.
"I had to come because only I can caste permanent shields that aren't anchored, and that will be able to withstand the magic of these…Wizards." A slight sneer crossed his face, but was quickly disguised with a grin.
Chris nodded. His brother was able to do everything.
"Alright." Wyatt clapped his hands and maneuvered his brother to sit in front of him. His hands laid upon his brothers head as his magic stretched out and attached itself to Chris'. The young brunet flinched as he felt the others magic touch his, but waited to see what would happen. Wyatt began to weave a small portion of his magic into his brothers to allow it to feed the shield without taking any active power from Chris.
"This part is going to hurt, okay Chris?" Wyatt asked when he was ready to create the shield. The younger nodded, and Wyatt hurried to complete the spell. Chris felt his magic snap into place and he winced as a piercing pain struck his head.
"Ouch." He murmured. His brother patted his shoulder in condolence.
"Done!" His brother announced soon after. "The shield should last you through the year, and will hide your presence from all wiccan creatures and demons. It essentially separates you from the wiccan world. This will allow you to focus your attention and magic on learning the wizarding way."
"Will I still be able to use my magic?" Chris asked. His brother nodded, and Chris grinned. "Cool."
His brother sighed, suddenly pulling away and turning toward the window to study the passing scenery. "Chris…"
Chris jerked as he felt his brother's hands close around his shoulders and pull him closer. It confused him because Wyatt, though caring, was never physically affectionate- he understood that Chris felt uncomfortable at the contact, and he respected that. His brother was worried.
"What's the matter, Wy?" he asked.
"Just, just be careful. Okay?" His brother waited for Chris to nod before he released his hold. "I'll see you at Christmas, then."
Chris nodded in response, fighting back the tears that threatened at the thought of the time spent alone. Chris had never spent such a long time away from his brother before, and now that he was faced with the train and the strangers on the train he felt the distance more than he had before.
"See you." He murmured.
"Oh, Chris?" Wyatt called, as though he had forgotten something. "I've left you a gift, you'll be getting it soon."
Chris winced. His brother's gifts all had a tendency to be either fantastic or extraordinarily dangerous, he was weary of the gift. But it would be one of the last interactions with his brother for a while, he slumped against the seat.
Wyatt grinned at him, knowing what he thinking. Don't be silly, Chrissy, we can still talk.
Chris laughed as the blue orbs flew from the compartment and replied, don't call me Chrissy!
After his brother had left Chris had settled back into the bench he was sitting on and had begun to look over the textbooks. If there was anything his short life had taught him, it was that it always paid to be prepared. A knock on the door drew his attention away from his reading on the properties of a bozar.
His eyes met with a pair of brilliant emerald eyes peering into his. "Hi," the boy greeted. "Do you have room for one more?"
Chris smiled and nodded, gesturing the boy in. "I'm Chris, hi."
"My name is Harry Potter."
The boy sat down across from him, his baggy, oversized clothing pooling across the seat as he relaxed. "Is this your first year?" Harry asked.
Chis nodded. "My letter came during the summer and my brother had to convince my parents to let me come." Chris paused for a moment, thinking of the summer before he continued. "They don't like wizards, you see."
Harry laughed and nodded along with Chris, "my aunt and uncle don't like magic either. My uncle moved us around for several weeks before Hagrid tracked us down to convince them to let me come. You won't regret coming."
Chris studied the boy across from him. "You're not new then." He stated. He felt a little bit of regret, he had thought that he had, perhaps, found a friend.
Harry shook his head. "This is my second year." (1)
The two boys were interrupted by a pair of red haired twins entering the compartment. "Harry,"
"Have you seen…"
"Little Ronnikins?" Chris felt his eyebrow twitch. If they didn't stop that infernal switching he might blow something up!
"We can't find him,"
"On the train." Harry shook his head at the two boys, "I thought he followed me through. Me and Hermione got separated, and she decided to sit with Ginny for the train ride."
There was silence for a moment, before one of the twins smirked. "Excellent."
The other twin suddenly turned to Chris. "How rude,"
"We didn't introduce ourselves, I'm Forge and this is…"
"Gred, pleasure to meet your acquaintance…?"
"Chris." The first-year introduced himself. He studied the two boys to distinguish the differences in their auras. is empHis empathetic gifts were less powerful then his aunts, but it served him well to identify people.
The twins didn't stay long, they soon left the compartment to find their friend Lee.
Harry fidgeted in his seat, it was obvious that he wanted to go look for his friend. Chris stared at Harry over his book, "you can go, you know." He stated blandly.
Harry blinked at him for a moment, before hurrying out the door with a quick "Nice to meet you, Chris!"
The brunet just turned to back to his book. He made a face, this stuff was just too easy.
AN: Okay, it has been a long, long while since I've updated this but, thanks to a review from Booyahkasha I have decided to update. I want to just emphasize again that this is an AU, and as such I have decided to change some canon events to fit my plot. I am sure that not everyone is going to like what I change, but that's okay.
Anyhow, note 1: I know Harry and Ron drove the flying car to Hogwarts during their second year, but I needed something to make Harry and Chris meet so Harry is riding the train. In case it wasn't clear, Wyatt lifted Dobby's magic from the gate to allow Harry through. (That was Chris' "gift".)
Also, I know this doesn't fit with the teaser, but what I had written was deleted on my old computer so started from scratch and changed some things.
Hope you enjoy!
