As Booth moved into the middle of the room and closer to the front desk, Brennan had now permanently latched herself onto him. Booth eyed the door behind the desk, it seemed suspicious to him. At the moment, the urge to pull his gun out, felt a very comforting and necessary idea. He suppressed the wish, and crossed infront of the desk, to a small door which allowed Eddie to pass into the reception and behind the desk. Booth unlatched Brennan's fingers from his shoulder, fearing that her knuckles would turn as white as the snow that continued to fall outside. He pushed the small door open, and failed to smother the need to drag his gun out, he held it up infront of him, without his finger on the trigger. Before he opened the door, Brennan hauled him back.
"I'm just going to voice my opinion here, it is definately the owner." Brennan enlightened, and Booth nodded as if he didn't already know.
Booth shook his head, at how oblivious she could be and he turned his attention back to the door. He held his gun a little higher and pushed it open slowly, peering in at one small portion of the room, before he opened it wider. As the door swung open, it revealed the owner Eddie, tied to a chair, his shackles digging into his skin. Brennan's foot ended up in her mouth at the irony, she had just accused the man of harassing them, then he turns up tied to a chair completely astonishing her. She smiled innocently at Booth, still he walked slowly and cautiously towards Eddie, who's eyes begged to be free. Firstly, Booth harshly ripped the silver duct tape from across his mouth, taking whatever stubble lay beneath with it. Eddie circled his jaw round, trying to regain all sense of motion and feeling in it.
"Thanks, you can't believe how uncomfortable this is." Eddie thanked.
"Yes we can." Brennan and Booth corrected.
"So are you gonna untie me or...are ya just gonna stand there?" Eddie said curtly, Brennan guessed his detained situation was making him irritable.
Booth nodded but Brennan's jaw dropped, she hauled him over to the side. "Are you serious? Even I can read him, Booth I don't like him at all, he keeps staring at me."
"If he trys anything on you...I will hurt him." Booth ensured her.
Brennan nodded, knowing that Booth would do exactly as he said. Booth turned around to Eddie who was trying to listen to their hushed conversation, he moved around the back of the chair and began to untie the ropes. Brennan stood perfectly still, arms folded across her chest. Eddie ignored Booth's attempts to free him from his bounds, he gazed at Brennan, desire painted across his face. Eddie, whose once spectacled eyes, shone a brilliant blue which couldn't be witnessed with as much an intensity when he had his dark glasses on. Booth eventually removed the ropes from Eddie's wrists and ankles, on many occasions Booth caught Eddie staring at Brennan, he innocently tugged on the ropes to avert his gaze. The ropes fell lifelessly to the ground, and Eddie rose from the chair rubbing the scarlet rings round his wrists. Booth stepped forward and mouthed 'Yeah Thanks' in Brennan's direction, she smiled at him and took a step closer to him as Eddie was subconsciously stepping closer to her.
"So...Eddie, what happened?" Booth wondered.
"Uhm...Well about maybe about an hour ago I was standing here, minding my own business when I heard the door open. You see I don't hear the door open very often." Eddie explained.
"Obviously...What happened after that?" Booth inquired attentively.
Eddie surveyed Booth suspiciously and continued. "I walked through to the front desk thinking someone was there, there wasn't so I turned around when I did I got bonked on the head and woke up tied up in that chair." Eddie said pointing to the gash on the back of his head.
Booth nodded to the wound on his head and Brennan inspected it, she concluded that he was in fact hit on the head. Booth nodded, containing his amazement he took a deep breath. "So who are they, any idea?"
"Nope sorry, I didn't even see who hit me." Eddie admitted.
Booth paused and rooted himself to the spot, a million different thoughts whizzed around his head at once, ducking and diving from each other, trying to get into his thought process. He wondered who these people were? What they wanted? And were they dangerous? He stood embeded on the floor for a few minutes before he moved, Brennan watched the gears turn in his head, the expression on his face completely absorbed. He finally lifted his head from his thoughts and looked to Eddie.
"Is there any other way out of here, except from the front door?" Booth inquired.
"Well, there is the door right in the back in the kitchen...Oh and there is a door upstairs, it'll lead you right out into the woods." Eddie replied, pointing around in different directions.
"Okay, which would you suggest?" Booth wondered.
"Well, the one upstairs is quicker, I'll show you if you want?" Eddie offered, Booth nodded in reply and let Eddie lead the way.
He led them along the dimly lit corridors and up the wooden stairs. Eddie waltzed along the corridors, completely calm and composed, Booth inspected him, an air of distrust around him. Brennan hadn't noticed the enormity of the motel, until now. Eddie had led them down deeper into the building, along a narrow corridor which had other hallways leading off into other directions. Anyone could easily get lost in the twisty, turny hallways, like in some fun house at a carnival. She tagged along very closely to Booth who was still utterly intrigued by Eddie's behaviour. Eddie gave a breath of relief as a door loomed at the end of the corridor. He turned slightly and nodded to Booth. He raked in his pocket for a set of keys and pulled them out, and dangled them from the tips of his fingers, rattling them from side to side. They were half way to the door when the handle turned, they all froze, mid-step and gazed as they door slowly crept open.
The man that Brennan had saw earlier with the blue over-alls on emerged from the door, she gasped quietly so that only Booth could hear. She grabbed his forearm and pulled him back slightly, her eye translating her fear instantly. Eddie turned and began to run, hustling past Brennan and Booth. Booth followed his example by grabbing Brennan's hand and he teared up behind Eddie. They turned down so many hallways Brennan had no idea where they were, she guessed by Eddie's frantic stares down corridors that he was lost. The motel rooms were all connected in a circuit, a sequence of circles and other randomly situated hallways. They halted in a corner, Eddie's frenzied attempts to find familiar rooms were highly doubtful with his heightned state of panic. He gazed down one hallway and another, he halted for a second and started to advance down the hallway. Brennan and Booth cautiously followed behind him and he stopped in the middle of one of the main hallways.
"I know where we are!" He exclaimed, punching the air excitedly, but his excitement was short lived.
Behind them footsteps, edged closer. Booth peered over his shoulder and now two men in ragged blue over-alls came closer. At first they simply strolled closer but as the three of them started to vacate, they made a bee-line straight for them. Booth pulled Brennan along, continuously looking behind him. They darted down the stairs, the loud footsteps from their hunters echoed behind them. Taring past the reception desk, Eddie quickly grabbed something from behind the desk and it went unnoticed. He tucked it away in his jeans and continued down the last corridor, to the sliding doors which separted the kitchen from the rest of the building. They all dashed in, Eddie and Booth immediately began stacking everything and anything they could find in front of the door, preventing anyone from entering. Brennan disappeared behind a kitchen counter, she slumped down onto the floor leaning her head on the cold steel of the cooker. She finally regained the notion to breath steadily, beads of sweat gathered on her brow, she wiped it away and let out a long over due sigh of relief.
"Bones?" Booth called.
She tiredly lifted her arm high up in the air. "I'm here."
Booth strolled up to her and took a seat on the arctic floor. "You okay?" He wondered worriedly.
"Okay...You?" She said softly, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"I'm good." He replied.
"Where's Eddie?" Brennan asked quietly.
"He's over at the door, listening to see if they're still out there." Booth enlightened.
She nodded and closed her eyes. She brought her knees closer to her body, trying to keep whatever heat she had left in her. Booth felt her shiver at the polar conditions, he acted on it immediately, by carefully removing his jacket from his shoulders and he placed it over her. She didn't even open her eyes to argue as she knew it would be unsuccessful, she simply smiled and whispered 'Thank you'. Booth replied with a smile of thanks on her part. After only a few minutes, Brennan's quivering had ceased and her breathing had slowed down and become more steady. Even the sound of her stable breathing, cleared his head and soothed him.
After endless minutes of silence, Eddie walked up and took a seat next to him. Booth looked side-ways, as Eddie rubbed at his red and irritated wrists. After he had cause even more irritation to his raw skin, he turned to Booth giving Brennan a lustful gaze as he passed.
"I didn't hear anything else outside, she's sound asleep." Eddie informed him, and quickly changed the subject to the sleeping anthropologist.
"Yeeeah." Booth said nervously.
"So, what's your deal?" Eddie asked.
"Excuse me?" Booth inquired, wondering why this complete stranger was talking to him.
"You and the person on your shoulder." He asked again, pointing from Booth to Brennan and back again.
"We are par...Work colleagues." Booth corrected, not wanting Eddie to know his profession.
"Mmm Hmm." Eddie nodded, not in the least bit convinced.
Booth faced away from the deranged and slightly unsettling motel owner, trying to focus his attention to something else, then as if Brennan could read his mind she began to stir. Booth sighed in relief as she slowly lifted her head from Booth's shoulder. She yawned quietly and smiled at Booth who had a thankful look across his face. She then ceased her smiling as Eddie's face hovered beyond Booth shoulder, she immediately sunk back against the cabinet.
"Thanks for leaving me alone." Booth whispered in her ear.
"I wasn't asleep." Brennan replied suggestively.
Booth smiled and looked away knowing what she was implying. "Why, did you 'go to sleep'?"
"I knew he was in the room so I thought I would pretend." Brennan announced, thumbing over in Booth's direction.
Booth gave Brennan a sarcastically thankful smile, and he jumped up from the concrete floor. Brennan watched wide eyed as he moved. He stopped infront of her and pulled her up from the floor. She followed her as he moved towards the door, he moved closer to listen for any sign of movement, when he heard none he turned to Brennan and Eddie.
"Eddie, where's this door?" Booth asked, and Eddie jumped off in the other direction.
Booth followed first and Brennan tailed behind him, swerving in and out of the kicthen work-surfaces. Eddie again lead them through a range of corridors, passing by a pantry and a small cleaners closet. As Brennan passed by the small closet, she subconsciously stared around her, amidst her stares her eye caught sight of some dried red liquid. As her eyes passed it her heart skipped a beat, and as usual her curiousity over-powered her and she went for a closer look. She reached her hand out to the door handle, her hand shaking and her breathing became even more unsteady. She turned the handle and cautiously pushed it open. Mops, brooms and buckets lay scattered across the floor, cobwebs accumulated in the corners. As the light filled the room she followed a smear of red to the back of the closet. When the last ounce of light had entered the room, her eyes moved to the back of the closet. She saw a small bundle wrapped in tarp and blankets. Her head fought with her instincts, her head told her to turn back and catch up with Booth, but her instincts told her to examine further.
She went with her instincts. She carefully moved deeper, dodging the mops and brooms strewn across the dirt cloaked floor. She came in touching distance of the bundle and stopped, she simply reached out and pulled a piece of the tarp down. When it revealed an extensively beaten face, she staggered back, tripping over an empty bucket. She quickly lifted herself from the floor and swayed outside, she ran down the corridor desperately looking for Booth. She came to the top of what she guessed was the last corridor. When she looked down Booth and Eddie were standing at the end, she composed herself and started to go down the corridor, but she was pulled back and her mouth was covered with some kind of cloth, muffling her cries. After only a few seconds, a substance that had been put on the cloth quickly took effect, she felt her head sway and her eyes lazily fell, then she lost all feeling and darkness engulfed her.
As Booth and Eddie subconsciously walzted down the hallways, Booth decided to take a look back, wondering why Brennan was so quiet. When he looked back his eyes widened in terror, he began to panic quietly to himself. He then woke from the dream he was now having, he made a grab for his gun but it was pulled from beneath his grasp. He turned to see Eddie holding the gun to his face, he held his hands up in protest.
"Where is she?" Booth asked calmly.
"Oh she's fine." Eddie said confidently.
"Where is she!" Booth yelled, his eyes burning.
With his yelling he received a smack around the head with the butt of his own gun. He instantly fell to the ground unconscious, Eddie walked up to him, kicking his leg to see if he truly was unconscious, when he was convinced he clicked his fingers and Andy, Kevin and another man arrived to drag him off. Andy stood next to Eddie, who had a pensive expression painted across his face.
"Andy if you can attend to him, I'll go pay the girly a visit." Eddie smirked.
"Gladly." Andy smiled.
