Rhythms of Love
LucyLorcan
Far From Nothing
She sat alone, legs outstretched in the grass; squinting against the bright light of the summer sun. She didn't want to be inside. Not right now.
She let the tears fall as she thought of the look on her parents' faces. They had been so proud, they had been so happy. Why couldn't they look at her that way?
"Hey, it's two sugars, right?"
She quickly wiped at her eyes as he dropped down in the grass beside her. It was a big affair at the Burrow, every member of the family – as well as all the family friends – were there for a party before all of the children went back for their next year at school. It was an annual tradition.
She took the steaming mug he held out to her and nodded. She mumbled a thank you and took a sip. She winced slightly as the tea burned like fire as it slid down her throat.
"Hey now Luce, don't cry." Lorcan sat next to her, legs crossed. "Talk to me."
"There's nothing to talk about." Lucy said, holding the cup tightly in her hands. She was thankful for the feel of the heated ceramic against her palms, it was bracing yet comforting.
"I don't believe that for a second."
Lucy took another sip of her tea, keeping her eyes on the long blades of grass as they swayed in the breeze. What did it matter to him? He was just like her – perfect.
"You know you are amazing right?" He whispered.
"What?"
"You – are – amazing – Luciana – Grace – Weasley." He smiled as he brushed a chunk of dark hair out of his eyes. "I know that look in your eyes. You think you will never be as good as her but you are wrong. You are amazing."
"You don't know what you are talking about." Lucy mumbled, heat rising in her cheeks.
"I saw the look on your face when Molly got the prefect badge. I saw your eyes as you watched your parents congratulate her. They love you Luce. They love you just as much as they love her."
Lucy laughed bitterly as the tears began to fall once more. "Yea right. They think I am a disappointment. I can tell. I can see it when they look at me."
"No. That's just how you feel but, you are wrong. You are not a disappointment. It doesn't matter that you are not the Hufflepuff prefect this year. You do so many other amazing things."
"That doesn't matter to them."
"Yes it does. They are proud of you. You just have to accept that right now this is Molly's moment. She –"
"Every moment is Molly's moment. She is smarter than me, she gets better marks than me, all of the teacher's love her, the whole family loves her more than me. Now she is the bloody prefect and I am nothing."
"Please don't say that. You are far from nothing."
A silence enveloped them as they sat in the setting sun. Lucy took another sip of her tea. Her throat burned and her eyes stung and she just wanted to run. She didn't know where she would go but, she just needed to get away. She had to get away.
"I don't think your nothing."
Lucy stole a quick glance at the boy beside her. His long hair fell in his eyes. His pale skin was dotted with freckles and his perfect, white teeth were revealed through a sweet smile.
"I love you Lucy. You are kind, generous, loyal, and compassionate, you always give up everything to help others, you are stronger than anyone else I know. You are the most beautiful thing in the world to me."
Lucy stared at him, mouth agape.
"R-Really?"
He chuckled, raking his fingers through his shaggy hair and nodded, "I swear."
"I – I can't even - - -Thank you Lorcan – I am just so –"
He silenced her with a kiss, his lips overtaking hers as he leaned closer to her, burying his fingers in her hair. She smiled when he finally broke away, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Maybe you can stop yammering and tell me you like me too?" He suggested his face just inches from hers.
"I like you too." She giggled as, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him into another kiss.
